  1. Flashback! I had forgotten the upstairs billiard hall Le Que. Used to go to the Catacombs (later called Of Our Own) and then go to Le Que for some late night/early morning pool. Who knows. We may have shot a game together. My Mom worked at Rodney's in the early 60's. It was an upscale store. I remember seeing the Exorcist when it first came out at the Village theater. Scared the crap out of me.
  2. Ramshackle bunch of businesses probably best applies to the old Village. There certainly wasn't a lot of upscale shops. I don't believe it ever catered to the University crowd as much as the area's residents. It had grocery stores, good restaurants and a nice theater. The Village struggled in the 60's and 70's when indoor malls were the big thing. The cracker jack multi-screen movie houses of the 80's killed the old Village theater.
  3. I don't think it's fair to count two separate cities like Dallas and Fort Worth together. Perhaps I will change my tune when Houston annexes Austin.
  4. Somebody's been smoking some serious stuff.
  5. Good to see they are finally going to start developing the old factory.
  6. Just smoldering insulation. No big deal.
  7. Westbury residents are still waiting for the larger recycling bins which seem to be languishing the last couple of years at a public works facility near 90 and Post Oak. Maybe sometime this century Houston?
  8. Altuve may be most exciting Astro ever. Now if only they could get rid of Luhnow and get a real GM.
  9. I'm jealous. Love Lake Louise. Did you hike to the tea house?
  10. This would explain all the smash-and-grabs going on these days. They used to be rare. Now I see one on the news almost daily.
  11. I think Suburu is the new Volvo. They are building nice rides that are reliable and safe vehicles.
  12. I not only remember the movie I once visited the original movie location in Brackettville. I don't think it's around any more.
  13. Just keep up with the traffic in front of you. There will always be one jerk that tailgates you even during heavy traffic when there is no place for anyone to go. Just ignore them. Also get used to people more concerned about whats happening on their cell phone then navigating traffic. if you don't already have one get a toll-road sticker. Best way to avoid freeway construction. The Grand Parkway is wonderful and will be better when it connects from 59 to 45. Lastly go to Austin and drive around for a while. It will make you appreciate our traffic more.
  14. What are they calling out of town? LA? New Orleans? I'm not familiar with Ferguson but it seems to be a small bedroom community inside of Saint Louis. If there was a protest here in West University or Bellaire and people walked over from Houston would they be considered out of town? And yes I agree with you that the troublemakers were the minority but doesn't change the fact that a violent demonstration is not going to win over public sentiment. If a peaceful protest is not possible then don't have one.
  15. Defend violence and mayhem all you want. Good people wouldn't stand for it. I think we have better people here in Houston.
  16. Herman Short was a bigot ahole. Thank god he's still not around.
  17. Can't compare to the Aggies or Longhorns but I'm happy for them. It looks good. Now if only Rice could do something with their aging stadium. Of course their student body cares less about football then anyone so i don't expect to see anything as nice as the U of H stadium.
  18. While police militarizing has seemingly gone over the top, when I see people rioting, looting and burning buildings I want to see the police use every means at their disposal to protect innocent business and property owners, which by the way I believe the police up there showed remarkable restraint in reacting to the violent perpetrators that are no better then terrorists. The people in New York peacefully protesting the death of Eric Garner I have empathy for, I have none for the people of Ferguson.
  19. I certainly appreciated all his effort towards victims rights in a society that seemed to care more about the criminal's rights.
  20. As good as Stanton's? I'm hooked on those burgers.
  21. Definitely can't beat the price. 2 for a buck. Three bucks and I'm full. Have to get them on the sly though. Wife doesn't understand the obsession and is mortified I eat them.
  22. I'm with you on the Jack in the Box tacos. I don't even want to know what that mystery meat is. I just know I have been addicted to them since their debut when I was in high school in the 60's. Great late night munchie food.
  23. Thanks for that link. I'm not holding out much hope I will ever see them with my Dish network.
