Frank Meyer Mansion At 9111 South Post Oak Rd.
Fringe replied to theoriginalkj's topic in Historic Houston
That's it. The picture shows my house just west of Post Oak and my good friends house just east of Cliffwood. To get to his house meant following Braes Bayou or cutting through the Meyer property.- 43 replies

I used to sneak around the property when I was a kid in the 60's. It wasn't far from where I lived. I stayed away from the house because it was said to be haunted. ( What abandoned property wasn't haunted when you were young?) I just liked the area because it was so woodsy, unlike anything else in the area.- 43 replies

No. Meyerland Plaza is on Beechnut and 610 and way predates Meyer Park.- 127 replies

I understand the Tidelands Motor Inn had a club and a lot of big time performers played there in it's early days. An interesting tidbit: The Smothers Brothers debut album "The Smothers Brothers At The Purple Onion" was actually from a recorded show at the Tidelands because their Purple Onion recording had to many sound problems. I never went to the Tidelands when it was a hotel but went there a lot while Rice used it as a it's graduate apartments. And I monitored it's tear down about 5 years or so ago (lots of asbestos). It was in pretty bad shape by then. ">

Seems this type of club would do better in Pasadena, not downtown Houston. -

To me the d-bag is the one drinking lite beer and prefers quantity over quality, but that's just my opinion.

[ Casa Dominguez? It used to be in that area before relocating to Bellaire about 20 years ago.

LOL. Those are great. I'm guessing from the 90's? Definitely before New Wiess was built.

It's nothing great. Rice distributes most of it's heating, cooling and electricity from 2 main central plants through these utility tunnels. You can't actually walk from one end of the campus to the other. Pretty much every building has a locked gate to prevent entry plus it's a very tight squeeze in some areas. There are also manhole covers but again you wouldn't get far before you came to a locked gate. Thresher article

Should be good. Cook's article

My bad. It was a Henke and Pilot. I was confusing it with the Weingartens at Stella Link and Braeswood that I also frequently shopped.
-
Weingarten's were everywhere in the 60's I believe the grocery store at Meyerland Mall started out as a Weingarten's.
