    yes, it closed. it moved to the north side of el dorado, still on the gulf freeway. I heard that the main reason for the move is that the sales tax is lower there (outside city limits).

    I have eaten at one in Mobile, Alabama and it was good. Since chicken fingers is about all they sell, it seems they have staked their reputation on them, so I would presume the quality is good here too.

    google earth shows the house as of 4/2004, no house as of 4/2005. Street view shows an empty lot with a deteriorating concrete driveway.

    Water lines are breaking all over town due to the ground shifting from the drought. They are being fixed as needed; this is most likely what you are encountering. edit: this is just an educated guess and my opinion.

    I think paint could look good. However, if you decide to paint the door, you really need to pick a complementary color for the door frame and the window frames. That being said, paint is not necessary.

    the historical imagery feature in google earth is a good one for this kind of question.

    good point that it's likely to have been a section in a larger "all-purpose" cemetery vs. specifically a children's cemetery proper. For what it's worth, forest park lawndale is on the southeast side of town, so it's not likely your target.

    I have no idea about the cemetery specifically, but I would suggest that you should contact a funeral home on the west side of Houston; that would be the most likely source for at least information about the cemetery. I don't have a specific one in mind, of course, but google maps might help you find a funeral home in the area. Also, I'm not sure where "right there as you got into Houston" would have been in the early 50s, but I would suspect probably within the 610 loop.

    unless you're confident in your ability to fix stuff like exposure and color balance (or if you don't care :-), your best results will come from a place that fixes those things for you. As a moderately serious photog (http://sjalexander.net if you're curious) I highly recommend http://Mpix.com ... their prices are a bit higher than the drugstore or walmart but their services are worth it in my opinion.

    If you're so inclined, you could set up a repeater at your pad for a few hundred bucks. not sure on the exact prices but someplace like cellantenna.com could give you more info. you're allowed to set up your own external antenna up to 12 foot above the roofline per FCC rules. more info on that stuff here: http://www.fcc.gov/guides/over-air-reception-devices-rule

    "purple fringe" is a manifestation of chromatic aberration and is a function of the optics, or in other words, the lens. If you buy a quality lens with your camera, this will not be a particular issue. The camera is not to blame in any case, unless the lens is integral to it.
