  1. https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2023/12/20/houston-housing-authority-greenlights-mixed-income-development-in-independence-heights/ breaking ground mid 2024 25% affordable from my understanding
  2. Later, Turner continued, “I’ve lived 69 years. I know when you’re sending a dog whistle.” Outgoing Houston Mayor, frontrunner candidate spar over City Hall representation https://www.houstonchronicle.com/politics/houston/article/houston-election-mayor-turner-whitmire-diversity-18524154.php
  3. I think everyone is way off base about all of this. I think if we want to understand what the next few years of Houston politics will look like, then we should look to Los Angeles. The new ballot initiative that allows city council members to place items on the agenda is going to make city council positions much more political and higher visibility. And as Houston becomes increasingly Latino, there’s going to be a lot of anxiety about representation, particularly for African-Americans. If you look at Los Angeles, there has been a lot of recent tension, anxiety and racism about representation on city Council. We’re already seeing shades of this with the most recent elections for court of commissioners at the county. In general, I think we should look to larger trends in similar cities. As a native Austinite, I remember when we had our city council reform. City Council and city councilman went from being generally anonymous to mini celebrities. I believe some combination of Los Angeles-style tension, and Austin-style attention seeking will be the future of Houston politics.
  4. Just a heads up, Houston housing corporation and the Houston Housing Authority are not the same entity. authority: https://housingforhouston.com Corporation: https://www.thehousingcorp.org Houston Housing Authority is a HUD designated entity. Houston housing corporation is a nonprofit that builds and manages low income housing using a variety of federal grants. The housing Authority may be considered “quasi-governmental,” the nonprofit corporation is not.

  6. How can we track this? Does anyone mind sharing how to find it in HHA or city documents ?
  7. I’m looking at fidelus portfolio and it’s a bunch of garbage front parking big box. Kind of worried but also hoping the city makes them do something slightly more beneficial to the hood. It says they want to do what the site deserves but manys the slip! I’m cautiously optimistic, but excited none the less.
  8. There has been another large parcel brought together adjoining this one with the name Lost Pines
  9. I can’t imagine we’ll get something horrible. With good connectivity to MULTIPLE stadiums and THE sports architecture firm involved I think it’ll be okay. I think everyone is in check-writing mode and I think everyone knows the expectations are high. They just broke ground on a new hotel nearby. Greenstreet got the new puttshack and Toms Watch Bar. This part of down town is primed to pop I just hope we get EVEN MORE nice residential. I was downtown at HOB the other day and was shocked how many people were rolling around downtown on a school night. Unfortunately the only place open to eat was the Palm (but the food was good). I hope more amenities means more folks living downtown and a brighter nightlife. I wish this plan included some residential.
  10. From x: https://x.com/iammarybenton/status/1720151483025362995?s=42&t=fsBYoidunkKl3Yr6apX4AQ at the state of downtown address, the astros showed off renderings of the mixed use plans and said “soon”
  11. Did Houston housing authority buy this too? Is it related to the slow moving subsidized housing buildout nearby ?
  12. They replaced the for sale/ lease sign a while back, but this is still on the market.
  13. From crexi, you can buy 5 acres. https://www.crexi.com/properties/1106363/texas-north-shepherd
  14. So happy the city is going after these places that are crime magnets. Really happy turner isn’t screwing around. The screws need to get turned in these business owners.
  15. I believe the commercial building is becoming a daycare
  16. No. The gm autonomous tech requires mapping. The production vehicles with the tech are limited to mapped roads. In Austin they drove around a while before deciding which roads were good and determining where to set the margins for the service. In Austin it’s only a tiny part of the city. my wager is right now they’re doing a lot of mapping and training the cars before making the final decision about boundaries. in other cities the order was 1.map and model with a driver 2. Take riders with a driver but the driver is just monitoring and intervening when needed 3. autonomous rides we’re at 1. 3 in a year or so.
  17. I’ve seen them a bunch around 34th mostly charging at the evgo at 33 1/3
  18. God can we make this go all the way to 610??? It’s absolutely bananas how people drive on main. It’s totally dangerous and I want traffic calming on main all the way to crosstimbers
  19. This is the biggest point! I don’t think cpc even want the land, they got it when they bought Huffington, but they were great assets.
  20. Most of us appreciate the drone pictures. This is a forum about development and change and we like seeing stuff get made. Most of the drone posts get a ton of upvotes so they are popular. You may have a fundamental misunderstanding of who uses this forum and why we enjoy and care about it. I am also someone who had a bad experience at Andy’s. I think it probably went downhill and the owners never invested in it. Even the “pregentrified” community deserved a clean place to eat.
