  1. Building under construction along the Nicholson St bikeway. Does anyone know if this will be residential or commercial?
  2. Building under construction with sign from Michael Hsu architecture firm. Does anyone know if this will be a residential or commercial development?
  3. Along the trail there are now two e-bike shops, dozens of restaurants and bars, multiple specialty shops and gift shops, jewelry stores, upscale retail but one still can’t find everyday items like a bodega in many other cities—produce, pantry essentials, over the counter drugs etc It takes 30 minutes to round trip walk from this location to the Kroger on 10th. Kroger’s location is not designed for trail users or to welcome people arriving by foot or wheelchair users. Frankly I believe that entire block of Merchants Park is way overdue for a redesign and densification
  4. Does anyone know what is the deal with the corner Unit at the corner of Shepherd feeder and the trail? Perfect spot for a grocer!!
  5. Thanks! The chronicle article mentions retail space. Does anyone know if that made it through?
  6. Hi, I would recommend emailing council members Abbie Kamin’s (C) and Karla Cisneros’s (H) office with your experience/difficulty crossing. Studewood is right at the intersection of their districts. DistrictH@houstontx.gov DistrictC@houstontx.gov Make sure you request a short meeting or phone call and tell them you try to walk the streets with a baby. out of curiosity, is it happening around 6 1/2 st?
  7. A sad day for the Heights to lose this mission-driven coffee house
  8. When you consider how many people use these spaces daily, these photos are an important reminder of how their spaces will be affected. Especially for those whose homes are not being affected.
  9. During a public meeting today, the city announced 11th St has been reprioritized on the list of the Mayor’s Street Rehabilitation Program. This means that in addition to the proposed safety improvements, 11th St. will be repaved along two eligible sections: 1) Shepherd to Yale 2) Studewood to Michaux 3) Yale to Michaux will not be repaved but will still be part of the safety improvements. when possible and within reason the city will also rebuild sidewalks and build out ADA infrastructure (!!) as cherry on the top, if the city damages any curbside blue tiles they will also replace them this is huge news 📰 but I know they had to work hard to reprioritize in order to be able to do both projects at once it’s great that they’ll rehabilitate the street now. Otherwise the safety improvements going in now would have had to be torn apart later on when the city were ready to rehabilitate
  10. Anyone know if that crushed granite path that connects to Oliver St will be concrete to make it a spur of the path?
  11. The East End Bike Plan - owned by Pct. 2 East-End-Bike-Plan.pdf (hcp2.com) Includes the Commerce St. Bikeway. This would effectively connect Harrisburg Hike and Bike Trail to Heights Hike and Bike Trail East Trail Head (note that the bike lanes on Chartres and Runnels aren’t visible in Google maps, but make this connection possible). Harrisburg Trail will soon have a connector through Lockwood Dr to the Buffalo Bayou Trail soon. With a Bike Lane in Commerce Street, Houston would have an ultimate bike loop available for all the income levels. East End has predominantly low and middle income households making bike lanes a necessity for those without cars. Having a bike lane, there would be added safety and attraction to the neighborhoods that might not be desirable to bike into otherwise.
  12. “37-room boutique hotel concept Maison Robert to life in the Heights neighborhood of Houston, TX. A fresh build designed by Architect Darwin McCredie, the hotel will also feature a pool, cocktail bar, garden terrace and flower shop. “
  13. Agreed, I think that it could be a great thing for the neighborhood. Hoping that a couple more hotels pop up on Heights Blvd to reactivate some of the historic buildings that currently serve very little purpose in the public realm
  14. A bit unrelated but Since it’s next door, Revival is closing its doors :(
  15. TxDOT “leaked” the video ahead of the public meeting next week https://youtu.be/sdHpW4BrcTQ $347M
  16. Maybe they’re taking space that used to be the Poke place behind pho binh
  17. Wonder what happened to the coffee shop that was under the Z staircase. I went by there a couple of days ago and it was no longer
  18. There is a Google Maps entry for a business called Heights Trail Icehouse located at 2453 Sawyer Heights St, Houston, TX 77007. Excellent location for the bike trail. Anybody have any more info on this?
