Hard to compete when you got a Best Buy and a Fry's within a couple of miles from you.
I don't know how everyone else thinks but i've converted a few walmart shoppers that buy ink there our customers. How "Good luck finding anyone to help you!" "You're already here do you feel like shuffling through all those baskets in the parking lot? to save 12 cents?" Sometimes being honest and offering good customer service works. I don't buy crap at frys(unless i need sata-4pin convertor and fans) I had a long battle with best buy once i wound up winning and never bought anything again. I think i went to the one by gulgate but walked out and went to gamestop.

The problem IMO is they can't compete with online vendors. You basically have to do your own product research as it is, so people who already know what they want will almost always find a better price online, and without sales tax (granted, you're supposed to ante up, but my guess is most people don't).
Take buying an HDMI cable for example. Circuit City charges $55 for a 4' HDMI cable. Best Buy charges $64 for a 4' HDMI cable. But I can go online and find one for less than $10. In fact, I bought several 3' HDMI cables from amazon.com awhile back for about $2 a piece. An HDMI cable is something you would expect to be an inexpensive last-minute item, yet every brick and mortar store insists on blatant price gouging on certain last-minute convenience items like cables. Since their selling model doesn't really add any value to the educated consumer, it's no surprise they are struggling. I am surprised that Best Buy is doing better, as I always thought they were more expensive and had worse customer service than CC.
Best buy doing better? Yeah don't hold your breath. i'll spare the story from last week in 10 min long line with one cashier.

Yeah i can't stand hearing "SIRIUS 36 XM 81 BPM" it's not the same. i miss flight 26 top hits on 30!

Great pics Boris, as always.
When i'd seen the commercials i thought the place was boring as hell. The "renaissance" period and "jousting" just don't do it for me...How ever there are lot of characters out there. I loved the drive and a pickle i ate that was half cucumberish(Oh god) my little boy got a weird dragon snake toy he loves. I've been back 2 times The dunk a wench deal is hilarious she is such a bit#h!

The league city store just opened...Not long ago...(about 2 or 3 months!) CC sucks. The one is Pasadena sucks. No price tags, every associate is hanging out at fire dog. I went to buy a Windows Home Server...I just bought the damn parts from microcenter after not being able to get anyone to open the case...

Yes, it's the harrisburg bank! Back when it said "BANK" before frost took over. The storm uncovered it!

I remember the lumber company that was on the west side of Evergreen (and Lawndale), the train tracks would have been directly north of it, the ceramic shop very close to it. But can't recall the lumber co. name. My g-mother lived very close to that intersection. I know Martini's Hardware.
Are y'all talking about where magnolia pawn used to be? The Bills Ice place lost the "cover" and you can see windows from ages ago. Nena(you aren't my mom are you? She lived in the area and her nick name is Nena!) Check this pic out!

What does he/ you mean by "spruce up the place"?
Anyways the New Police Dept. is finishing up quite nicely, imo ,although instead of its vertical old home it took the horizontal path.... And you can see the DATED construction google map image if you go to the link below... Which also has the library renovation/ addition
They promised to fix the parking lot, new signage/monument and an upgrade to the shopping center.

Someone asked about the utilties.
There are(as of last sun) places closing early. Wal-Mart,Randalls closed at 5 or 6 The Office Depot is now open but only from 9-4 as a temp setup. There are numerous damaged lights west of the San Luis Hotel. I blew threw a few lights without realizing it when i was there(west of the ship terminal)

Ooh, "Night Gallery"! They used to air that on the Encore Mystery Channel a few years ago. I used to scare my little niece with that opening sequence. Oh my gosh, I'm terrible!
By the way, NBC.com has "Night Gallery" available in streaming video. They add a "new" episode every Wednesday.

My favorite episode "A Question Of Fear" starring Leslie Nielsen is still not available. Shoot.
It comes out on the "Chiller" channel on DN and dish

TheNiche (who doesn't have steady internet at the moment) reports that Benno's on the seawall is open for business.
It is open...Till 10 p i believe. My wife saw the sign and wanted to stop to try it but i decided not to burden them. The shrimp and crap icons are still down the seawall.

This place is going to make $$$.
Lets just be happy its something "in the now"
They actually are pricier than Arnie's so that may be a bit of a challenge. Oh well party!
There was a party something next to where skeeters is....Closed about 2 years ago.

well as some of you know,
mervyns closed
BUT!
STEVE&BARRYS moved in to the north side of mervyns
and there's a sign reading " ROSS COMING SOON"
which, of course will move into the west side of the mervyns.
I do hope they put that landmark to good use

I remember visiting a friend who lived in the Nob Hill apartments off of N. Braeswood about 10-15 years ago and the silhouette was on some of the signs...
edit - yeah, those are the ones by Belden's:
So what exactly did this man do? I stayed a few times with family @ the Broadway square apts.
-
Just depressing. I found this on KHOU.
At 72, George Helmond had ridden out many storms and thought he could take on Ike, too, neighbor Don Hanson said. -
Do they allow photography?
