Cool info. The Hobby lobby is a weird one on the inside.(Though most are reused kmarts/bs or other defunct retailers)

Locations
Sage Department Stores
Beechnut & Loop 610. The building was used by Builders Square for their store when it was there. When Lowes purchased the land they demolished the store and built a new building.
I'm not 100% certain...But the Hobby lobby next to lowes, looks like an old Builders square. If you drive around the back you can even see the old blue/red cheatline. The inside looks like a BS as well. What was next to it? Maybe it didn't get demo'd

The only one that feels anything close to an Astroworld is Earthquest.
I'd really wish we'd stop trying to compare every theme park opening to AW. It's been gone for 10 years. It was built on years and years of love/memories and stuff we hold dear to it.

Those are air-conditioning heating vents. Lots of stores had those kind of vents.
Not that big... LOL

That was always something that stood out for me about kmart. You can often spot a reused Kmart location with them.

Where were the Woolco's located?
Thanks

I have recently been in a few old kmarts, one a "Zodys" that closed and kmart took over another in Burbank CA...tons of business, lines long...the stores look like they never left 1980.
Cerberus has done better with Albertsons, than, say, Lampert has done with Sears and Kmart (though arguably, Kmart was doomed to begin with thanks to some mistakes in the 1970s and 1980s, namely, dumping money into new stores instead of maintaining older ones). The trick is to see if a giant merger like this will actually work, because a lot of the time it doesn't (AOL Time Warner, Penn Central being some notable failures).

What year do you suppose? What was where the Office Max before? I know a venture was there at some point.
Another find I thought worth sharing: north facing aerial found among the South Belt Leader files.
Almeda Mall area at left, downtown visible at top.
This was before the Gulf Freeway was rerouted over Almeda Genoa. Lots to spot if you grew up in the area in my era.

Can you post a direct link to that? I'd love to check it out.
An "In Brief" indicates that Kroger once occupied the space.
This was accessed through the Houston Chronicle website via Houston Library (if you don't have a library card I highly recommend it--I got mine free through a mail-order registration). Tons of great stuff on old addresses, and has helped me immensely in 290 corridor business history--like how Gold Cup was a fancy steakhouse once, and the 24 Hour Fitness nearby was a Handy Dan hardware. HCAD may also help in former ownership, too.

I'm just happy to have some indication that there are actual plans for this site.
That doesn't mean a thing...Astroworld Site had "actual plans" too...

Southwest does have great customer service. However they just announced a devaluation of points.
Why didn't you fly straight to Costa Rica on United?
LOL "devaluation?" Are you basing that on the article headline you read? With atleast 3000 points depending on fare/notice you can buy a one way ticket. You can't get anything on united other than stupid magazine subscriptions with anything less than 50+k points.
-
I heard mention of $200,000 per flight, so probably not that many people at first.
People complain about paying $79 between Hou-Dal... LOL

Got this from Ellen Cohen newsletter:
Council Member Cohen and her colleagues on the Budget & Fiscal Affairs Committee received a presentation from Director Mario Diaz of the Houston Airport System regarding the viability of planning for a future commercial spaceport in Houston. Director Diaz noted that Houston's Ellington Field Airport is particularly well-positioned for becoming a global hub for commercial spaceflight due to Houston's current aerospace infrastructure within the NASA community and our proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and Latin America.
I would as a Flight Attendant rather see Known Crew Member at Hobby...

Ham radio?
If you look at the cars plates it appears non standard. IE: "Radio operator" plates?

The only KMart photos I have are of the S. Gessner KMart in 1979 (because I worked there at the time).
Sorry...no Super KMart shots! It's a shame that the KMart chain moved out of Texas. I always liked shopping there.
Post some pics!

So i went to the Kmart on College...There is a "Bargain Outlet" next to it. It appears to be a whole other small 25k sq ft building. Does anyone know if this was something else? The inside looks real dated so i doubt it was cornered off.

Any one have photos of the Strawberry Mall?
There was a Dollar store on the property for a while. Then the school was built and demolished. Was that store part of the mall?

Did target ever have an "auto center?" Reason i'm asking the old Target Greatland on Spencer had a few auto type garage doors on the side and so does the Target on Kleckly near Almeda mall. I was in Vegas a few weeks ago and saw my first Target Garden Center, Granted it was closed off a few years ago. Nothing but over stock in the room.

If you go to 7-11's site under store locator it shows plenty of stores coming. Mostly outside of the loop.

That hospital has been closed/ fenced for quite a while. I noticed that the smaller Pasadena Hospital has changed quite a bit. Is it closed, as well? I can't remember. I just drove by there. Professional bldg. was boarded up. Tatar St.?
No, The main hospital a fence was put up and a dumpster was added. I think they will demolish it. The city owned the place behind whataburger and the one behind cvs is still open.
