  1. Of course someone would have already suggested that - that's what I get for jumping in on the end of a thread without doing the required reading Some fascinating gems just from a history stand point since I wasn't in Houston when the thread started - one comment said something about an urban development at Fannin South?
  2. What if they cleaned the skylights off to let as much sun in as possible and just made it a huge indoor park? Complete with grass, trees, squirrels...
  3. Just need to make sure the topper tree is at least a 24" tree and stays there
  4. Here's a direct link to the pdf (maybe it will work?) ftp://edrc.houstontx.gov/2015/Applications//2015-0678/SubdivisionPlatPDF_Hardy_Yards_Multifamily_Plat.pdf If not I attached the PDF that downloaded Edit: Leona street looks like its going to be a new extension of the short stub east of Hardy st - it's not on Google Maps, but the lot subdivisions are? https://www.google.com/maps/@29.7725784,-95.3537394,17z SubdivisionPlatPDF_Hardy_Yards_Multifamily_Plat.pdf
  5. Any hazard to air navigation has to be filed with the FAA. It's not to get approval/disapproval, it's just so they can put it on the aeronautical charts if needed.
  6. There were plans at one point for an inter-modal terminal underneath where UHD is right now. Perhaps they could build a station on where the post office site is now, and have moving sidewalk hallways snake towards where the UHD station is now. The intermediate station could still be built, but it would be a little bit a ways from Brian and College station if it was just on the Utility corridor. I suspect that building a station to service the rural areas might only be possible with ED powers, so if this bill passes but the train gets built...seems slightly ironic.
  7. The protection is most likely going to be a fence, physical separation from roadways/paths, and in cab signalling coupled with rail sensors to detect continuity. It sounds complex, but probably will only be an incremental part of the whole project. I suspect that the Trans-Texas corridor proposals are where a lot of this opposition is coming from, when the route would eat up much more physical space. It would be nice to see TCR publish some renderings or drawings showing the configuration of the typical rural route. I'd imagine the routes going down the utility easement will probably looks something like this (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinkansen)
  8. I'm curious about the utility easement route - assuming TCR follows the easement exactly, would they have to buy anymore additional land (and possibly use ED to force that purchase)? I would actually think eminent domain is going to be a more important power/tool once the route gets closer into Houston/Dallas if they need to expand their chosen right of way to get to a downtown station.
  9. I suspect for dry goods retail to come (i.e. not food/drinks) the retail street will need one big name, destination store to come in first before anyone else. I hope the city is trying to seek companies out if they're investing all this money
  10. I feel like both the location and the quality of the stations (both Houston and Dallas) will make a big deal to it's success. If they try to run the HSR out of the Amtrak Shack, they won't get any of their coveted business traffic.
  11. I could see Block 334 MAYBE topping out before Skyhouse Main leases...but that's a long shot
  12. Does any one know if the train could still run if someone were so inclined?
  13. It's a temporary building made out a couple of shipping containers and something for the roof. The construction workers seem to be using it as a covered lunch area.
  14. It would be neat if they build the HSR over the railroad-themed restaurant....
  15. Just looking at this building I had an idea - probably impractical - could you turn this into a large HEB inside, so that there's only one, maybe two floors, but keep the facade? Downtown could use a general grocery store like that, just wonder if the structural repairs would be less if you aren't going to be using more than the ground floor.
  16. Union station actually became Minute Maid park - the front brick building is from the station, while the park and all the parking lots are made on the platforms and tracks out back. You are right on the trains having to back in/out - it was terminal station, not a nice through station like the Southern Pacific station (now the post office site)
  17. Update from this morning. Looks like they want to make sure everyone knows its a Skyhouse
  18. They're subcontracting it from the Block 334 guys
  19. New pictures of the Exxon campus with pictures of a suspended meeting center above the main entrance...it looks nerve wracking/awesome http://swamplot.com/snuck-preview-of-the-exxonmobil-campuss-energy-center-the-glass-front-gate-with-the-hovering-cube/2015-04-02/
  20. I'm wondering if they are charging high rent/being picky on who to rent to, or if there really is no interest
  21. With all the development going in just south of Greenstreet (2 sky houses of residential, the existing Houston house residential, and the block 334 construction workers) a good coffee shop is a must for the area. That being said, sometimes I do want to buy pants without driving somewhere.
