  1. Brazos has re-opened. I noticed last night when I was almost hit by a moving truck doing 45+ MPH through a green light on Brazos at Elgin.
  2. Sun Country announced new service from IAH today. Destinations: CUN MSP LAS LAX https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2021/01/25/sun-country-airlines-announces-16-new-routes.html
  3. Yep, just got an email that this location is now open. Pretty interested to see how it does.
  4. It sounds like it will be operating effectively as one single line if no transfers will be required. Sounds like that hasn't really been decided yet, but I thought I saw a rendering that didn't have any real separation between the two lanes. I think this is the first time we've seen this routing. Before it was shown on Post Oak. Two-way HOV lane refreshes are part of METROnext, so there might be some funding for something dedicated. Agreed. Watching these projects slowly slip is hair-pulling. This is one of the projects that they have listed as being prioritized. Also, the Shepherd/Durham rebuild is also slated for a 2026 completion (2024 for north half of it?) so there might be some harmony with finishing the Shepherd BRT station at that time.
  5. My first thought for a Pearl a la Houston would be the coffee plant, but honestly it might not be big enough. Surely these large industrial users in the East End will start to fall and someone will go big.
  6. I believe we knew where the stops were going to be because the city instituted TOD designation around them ahead of time: https://houstontx.gov/planning/tod-standards.html If you click the TOD Street Interactive Map the University Line stations have already been factored.
  7. Article from Dug at the Chronicle makes it sound like most everything got shelved :/ https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/transportation/article/Metro-has-lost-half-its-riders-but-still-has-a-15689817.php
  8. There is currently no plans to do that. They added LRT on Washington to METROnext like 2 months before the vote but then removed it. From what I understand, they still could and could even use METROnext funds to do so, but there is no indication that they will at this point. Also remember that they are extending the green/purple line west, but just to the courthouse. Exactly. And they had originally only planned for one stop. This is the first time I've seen anything about a second stop. I had to laugh the other day because I saw one of the new digital BOOST status boards on Montrose at a bus stop without even a bench. I'm sure that they are planning all of the facets of METROnext, but we haven't gotten much info considering it passed 14 months ago. What public-facing info has been released about the University BRT?
  9. Oh man, they are actually doing this how I thought they should!!!! First, no transfer required for silver line passengers is so important. Just.... duh. I like doing two stops along I-10. We knew Shepherd would happen, but I don't think it was clear for Studemont. The big news to me is that they are planning on having 3 BRT stops on the existing green/purple in Downtown. I had talked with Christof Spieler about this on Twitter awhile back, and he said that the boarding height is different on LRT vs BRT, but that they could extend the stations slightly to provide a curb at a different height. I didn't really expect a Theater District stop, but why not as they'll likely be driving right past and it is the closest station to so much development in the NW corner of Downtown. With them locking in the decision to do these 3 sites for downtown BRT stops, I would expect METRO to utilize the same stations for the IAH BRT. This would allow you to: No transfer from Hobby(LRT) or IAH (BRT) to Convention District/Central Station/Theater District stops.. One-transfer from Hobby/IAH to the Galleria/Med Center/NRG All on separated lane transit. That is pretty powerful! There is potential for the White Oak Bayou Trail/MKT Trail to integrate directly with a BRT stop at Studemont, too. Some potentially significant Transit Oriented Development influences in the area, too. Also, they should just start working on the IAH BRT. If you are going to do the stations downtown, then skip the N. Shepherd stop until the LRT extension/station is built but go ahead and do Greenspoint and a station at the airport. It shouldn't matter if two-way HOV lanes aren't built yet because the 102 is currently utilizing the main lanes, so why not the BRT bus temporarily?
  10. Yep, an absolute truckload. Almost all of it will be sharrows. Basically only Jackson Hill will be protected. Not great, but there was significant community pushback to eliminating on-street free car parking.
  11. I asked at one point almost a year ago and it was basically a "we don't have the money allotted to fix it" situation. Pretty sad tbh.
  12. NRG Stadium, Minute Maid, BBVA Stadium, etc are all on public land but they are still private entities that have control of them and do have the ability to limit your constitutional rights. Same thing with the Zoo, or private events at GRB, and so on.
  13. Bagby is getting a redesign that will add a new cycle and pedestrian zone, but it stops at Franklin. Maybe it could be extended by the developers? Only real access point is via George Bush Monument across the street. A ramp bypassing Franklin would have been great though. This should be done by the end of 2021:
  14. I emailed the leasing agent to ask if Sweetgreen was still coming since they aren't listed on the website and nothing seems to be happening still, and she did still confirm.
  15. Where were they talking about it? I'd love to send Kamin an email in support if she was the one talking about it.
  16. Also, Mendocino Farms posted a slew of openings for their Rice Village location yesterday. I think we knew this, but it is in suite 120.
  17. The thought that there is a sliver of a chance Aladdin is going away makes me pretty sad :(
  18. Looks like another restaurant coming to Rice Village nate, does the general public have the ability to view the further details on the permits like you have attached? I can't for the life of me figure out how to view this from the weekly reports.
  19. I've come pretty close to closing the slip lane myself by blocking it and putting a bench in 😄 I don't know why Bagby gets so wide at Westheimer right there. It is incredibly awkward. It took me loudly complaining for nearly two months to have lane striping put in after the reconstruction. The official answer I got was that the contractors were supposed to do it and didn't. It was a freaking mess.
  20. It is a private park so they can do just about whatever they want. Same reason why Buffalo Bayou Park Conservancy can drive gas-powered golf carts around while they are banned for the general public.
  21. Final proposal from CoH is out. Construction to happen summer 2021. https://houstonbikeplan.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Patterson-Street-Bikeway-011421.pdf The highlight is that Washington will not allow turns across traffic onto Patterson from either direction:
  22. The people that were running the scooter rental at Discovery Green have moved to.... Buffalo Bayou Park. The one other place that they are specifically excluded, lol. There is a scooter shop in EaDo, and it looks to be them that are renting them.
  23. I'm counting 32 stories on the tallest structure. Also, kind of interesting that they have a 10 story building sketched in for the Kroger parking lot.
