  1. Midtown Houston has several videos on their FB story where they were taking a tour of the ION. I think that these only stay up for 24 hours? So it's going to disappear by like 6pmish today. I'll download them and post them here with the stills. They did say that the north face of the building would be restaurants. Their post: https://www.facebook.com/stories/2112030015480802/UzpfSVNDOjEwMTYwNTUyNzU3ODEyMjI4/ Here are the same vids that I downloaded and then reuploaded to imgur The stills:
  2. I just looked up the data source for that infographic, and well... it's wrong. This is what they are using to calculate for Houston in their 2010 report: They are counting the entirety of the Fort Bend County Park system, yet as far as I can tell, none of it is in the CoH. They are then dividing just the CoH population across all of this park land which is outside of the City of Houston. Also, nearly 10,000 of the Houston Parks land is Lake Houston Wilderness Park. Yes, it's technically part of Houston Parks, but it's c'mon. George Bush Park is 8,000 of Harris County's Park space. The same group gives a Park walk score, and Chicago has 98% of residents living within a 10 minute walk of a park where Houston only has 61% I mean, look at these two comparisons!! https://www.tpl.org/city/houston-texas https://www.tpl.org/city/chicago-illinois
  3. I believe it was Mitchell Silver's Kinder Institute presentation back in March. I know it's hard to do direct comparison because of large county parks budget here, but 2019 CoH Parks budget was $77 million and Chicago was $465 million, so it's about 16% more on a raw basis. We're also really bad on the distribution of parks and the average distance of a park to each resident. We're still 3X as large and have 1/2 as many parks. I'm not an expert on the quality of those parks (we do have some excellent ones) but park space in Houston is severely lacking for a huge portion of residents. I got invited to a private discussion group about ways to try to combat it and they kicked me out when I basically said that ship sailed years ago.
  4. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-11-01/fortress-fails-to-sell-record-bond-deal-for-las-vegas-rail Vegas to Southern California fails to sell their bonds. Have to think that's a much more desirable market than Houston to Dallas.
  5. If only our city spent on parks and rec like other major cities We spend like something 10% per capita that Chicago does. Obviously, I definitely agree.
  6. Commenter on Reddit said that HBP's last day is Jan 16 and that they are looking for another location to reopen.
  7. I think I read somewhere that HEB said no more CMs in Houston This could be an interesting location for one, though. Looks like this Kroger is about 1/2 the size of our CM and the lot is about 1/3 of the size. Surely there's no chance of Target opening another store here, right?
  8. Oh snap. There's so much real estate available on that side of the street now! Will be interesting to see what happens.
  9. Permit issued for a coffee shop remodel at Blacksmith. Maybe integrating the lot somehow?
  10. Permit issued for a 133 sq ft bike storage room in the parking garage. You love to see it! (I'm assuming this is also for Google).
  11. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I live real close to this one, so looking forward to making lots of posts about it! There are a surprising number of town homes in the complex to the right of this photo for sale (across Drew) and I think they were wanting to sell before construction. Really wish that there was a small amount of retail in this for a little coffee shop or something, but oh well.
  12. Very different than a "normal" doughnut like Shipley's. Denser and while they have some more typical options, they have some elaborately decorated/flavored options that they are kind of known for. Honestly, there is room for both.
  13. New 2,900 square foot donut shop going in? Also, doubt it's take out only if its that large.
  14. Drove by yesterday, and there was a weird twoish story metal skeleton structure with a bunch of plants hanging on it in the NE corner of the parking lot along San Jacinto. Wish I could have grabbed a pic.
  15. Had my wife ask at Shake Shack because it looked like maybe a drive-thru was being added, but they said that they are only adding a walk-up window to that side. They aren't involved with the rest.
  16. Couple of pics from last Thursday. Overally, was kind of interesting to be shopping in a store where basically everything is laid out nicely. Grocery section relatively small. Maybe 1/3 the size of a suburban Super Target? Mostly dry/packaged goods. They did have a small fresh food area. The food items extend back into a dogleg in the back corner of the store, so it's a little bigger than expected. I should have taken a pic, but clearly soda delivery not ready yet because the whole soda aisle was just regular coke and diet coke sitting long ways one deep to take up the entire aisle. They were also doing a free baked item at Starbucks with any grande drink or larger. Store was laid out with women's cosmetics and women's clothing the closest items to the front door/checkouts. Overall, the selection might be slightly smaller than a larger Target, but they're really utilized the space well. Doing your primary grocery shopping here is not feasible, as expected. Impressively large men's grooming section
  17. Hard hats onsite when I went by Saturday afternoon
