  1. Yep, that's my major gripe with the building thus far. Main Street itself should be the plaza for the buildings in that area. My preference would be if it kept in line with the other buildings on Travis.
  2. I don't think the grammar police would appreciate it though. I need a proof reader before I hit submit
  3. Kinda forgot what the final product is supposed to look like. Must not have been very ground breaking. No wonder it is not appreciated more
  4. I am overjoyed that they didn't drag their feet on this one and shot a building out of that massive bathtub, but I don't like that wide of a setback on the Travis side. I guess I might change my mind when its all done, but I doubt it. I am not a big fan of plazas. The building itself looks like its shaping up to be an interesting one, I just appreciated the mass of the previous occupant of that block, and the shade that it offered.
  5. I normally dislike strip centers with more than just a row of parallel parking out front, but somehow this one seems comforting to me. I don't mind seeing it around for a few more years. To me it adds to the character of Montrose,; and its replacement, most likely, would have been a souless facsimile of the dozens of midrises popping up in the loop. I love the scale of Montrose. Would rather the taller buildings surround Montrose in Midtown, Washington, and upper kirby and keep Montrose, Rice and MD more small scale
  6. I love Houston; from many different angles. Seeing pictures of it feels comforting. Its like: home!
  7. The business at this address, Binswanger glass has moved to 3313 McKinney. Hope the building didn't sit vacant for long, the homeless have already been using it as a campground for years now because the deep eaves provides excellent shelter.
  8. Houston sure loves giving office workers scenic views of highways. No! Shut up. Mobility has little to do with it. You know the intention was to have occupants count how many red audi go by in an hour
  9. I would take 20 more skyhouses over the plethora of open scars that tarnish southern downtown
  10. Wow, they have now wrapped the fencing with green tarp. Is this thing really underconstruction already? And how many new construction projects does that bring it up to currently in downtown? 8? Skyhouse, leeland garage, 609 main, former macys, MM, alliance, uhd garage, fingers. Plus about 3 renos? Good job downtown
  11. Fence is up and there are workers on the site. The little green backhoe is digging next to the garage
  12. Just passed the site and there was a tiny green backhoe thingie on there. It looks like something that would be used for land scaping. It was no bigger than a lawn mower.
  13. When I talked about congession I was actually taking about kirby itself, but Richmond. Didn't mean to spark a rail on Richmond vs Culberson debate. In addition to upgrades for Richmond, kirby needs help too.
  14. Something needs to be done about the traffic on kirby though. Sheppard gets congested too
  15. Its just that one of the big draws of Houston was the plethora of affordable housing. Kinda sucks that that now means boonies living.
  16. By 2030 we might have far less surface parking but we will still be plagued by unpleasant warking experiences as in not much to look at but blank walls. Sorry to crap on your dreams for the core, they are mine too, but the way buildings are built here are not geared to urban living
  17. How many more luxury units does Houston need? Where are the $800 a monthers going to live? I would bet there are far more of those coming off age or moving to Houston than the $2200 a monthers. All these new structures are great, but they are being built all across town. This is going to stagnate the density in the loop. Where are all the new middle to lie income residents supposed to live? Spring? Ten years ago the near parts to downtown was pricey, but you had a range of choices in the southwest, west and north. Now you have to go way past the beltway to find something decent.
  18. I don't think he is saying that retail should be on every block. Think he is saying that this blocks are a prime cross roads. These twi ptijects I believe ate on Westheimer/ Elgin between Smith and Louisiana. Those are the #1 and #2 busiest north south streets and arguably Westheimer is the busiest arterial street in Houston. I like the Pearl projects. The Area looks so different already, and the Calais stands out less
  19. Its crazy that with so much development from corner to corner of our city that there hasn't been much effort to cut down on overhead wires.
