  1. How do you know they didn't outline a growth plan. Iy might have been different from what you imagined, ot May have been shot down/ opposed by stubborn politicians or nimbys
  2. So you thing Westheimer was the same street 40 years ago that it is now? I left town for a few years and came back and westheimer had drastically changed. So I know 40 years ago that street would have been completely different. Fact of the matter is if we wanted a cross between urban and suburban that looks nice we would have been copying LA ages ago and tightened building codes.
  3. I heard so many comments about the skyhouse look is ugly that I was expecting such a beast. The finish product (almost) is much better than I expected. I don't care how bland they say it is I would rather three more skyhouses downtown, over those three short complexes on the development map (Alliance, the one south east of Camden, and the one across Texas from Marquette)
  4. You have to keep in mind too, that Houston isn't the under 50 sq mile city that san Francisco and Others are. Micromanaging 600 sq miles pf flood plone swamp isn't easy. They can barely keep the city from flooding or littered with potholes let alone conjure up impovements for miles and miles of road. Fact is these improvements have to be undertaken in fragments and by sub agencies. These things are just too much for the city to do on its own and do a good job at it. Look at the improvements on Gray in midtown.
  5. Houston is not your typical city. It is a patch work of once walkable cities woven together to form a massive taxable glob. Westheimer, like Addicks-Humble Road (1960) was an old, dusty dirt road connecting the Farms out west to the Markets near downtown. To sustain that much development for so long along what was once a farm road is phenomenal. Westheimer is about 30 miles long. Things that long are never walkable, but it will evolve to have walkable pockets. A nice mass transit system along that street would help a lot. Montrose to me is walkable. Sidewalks would help it along though. Westheimer and Kirby could transform into another nice pocket. So could the area around this project. I used to walk up and down that area between Hilcroft and Gessner back in the day and it is packed with amenities. A good mass transit in that area again would do wonders. To bad these things are not going in right now but there are about 4 or 5 areas along Westheimer that could develop into nice transit oriented areas to Live
  6. Something that is underconstruction but not on the development map is the UHD faculty lot between Main and Milam on Giraud. They demoed the old garage ages ago. So that brings the downtown number to 13. I think when you throw in midtown the number for Main goes up to 18. Its 20 when you throw in TMC. Main is moving on up.
  7. The jails don't have to be downtown. Just accessible by public transit. The best situation is a subway down westheimer and dump the jails in that area south of westheimer and east of 610. EVERY BODY WINS No?
  8. I must be out of my mind then cause I used to walk from UH in all sorts of directions when I lived in campus 6 years ago
  9. Ignoring the trolls This is new for us. We are slowly appreciating the convenience of getting to venues like this via rail. It will get better
  10. You read my mind, I was thinking the same. As for the low density spots, no one said we had to stop everywhere. Kirby has lots of stuff and would provide excellent transfer spots. Houston is the city of potential. We just have no idea what we want to do with all that potential
  11. Amen to that. Throw in Esperson, Humble and BOA and I am good. Loved the old pics of the Texas Tower but didn't get to see it in its glory. Let's hope this tower is a worthy replacement. I am still not sold on Hines last downtown tower. Still call it the giant monkey wrench
  12. Bazinga ^^^ I think the better question is what project actually started on schedule as almost everything seems to start late. I hated the original renderings fir the Camden buildings, and although I am like you an anxious for all of this to be done and rented before superbowl, if waiting means we are getting a better building than the crap first purposed then I don't mind the wait
  13. its not what I want. Its apparently been the want of many for years and the complaints are still being sounded. Randalls is limited on offerings and what they do offer is overpriced. Fiesta is reasonable but Lacking in all around goods. I guess it has a good chance if more people move to the area. But I agree we have beaten this to death and should move on. We have taken too much already from the arts center which will be an asset to the city as a whole. I like diversified entertainment options and being on the rail is a plus for me as I use it often. I also agree with the poster above on going easy on game changers. Those are rare and almost always looked upon in retrospect.
  14. Say what you want but grocery stores and other amenities make neighborhoods strong. Art does little to attract residents. Who on earth cares more about walking to a performance over walking to get necessities. What is pathetic is people who hide behind screens calling names but haven't a clue as to the real world
  15. I think both Randalls and FIESTA was mentioned so they are not forgotten. I can never get everything I want from either though. I'd not like HEB where you get your full grocery needs filled. Plus Randalls is overpriced. Phoenicia is nice but even less adequate.
  16. We can do both. This building could easily be taller and slimmer leaving more foot print for the park
  17. I don't think anyone would disagree that it is a plus for the area or a catalyst for other developments. But it isn't changing any game. My biggest concern living on main would be a full service grocery I could walk to or a short train or bus ride to. That would be the game changer for me. I don't mind taking a longer bus or train ride to entertainment, but neighborhoods need groceries and services within a few blocks
  18. I wouldn't say absolutely out off place. The HCC building is a block or two to the south and 2016 main and the central bank building are about three too 5 blocks to the north. A 30 story building might be pushing it, but a nice 10 to 15 would add height without being obnoxious. And maybe the increase in height would spur the development of taller buildings. My preference is complexes taller than 8 floors. They look better to me than the 4-6 floor buildings popping up around midtown
  19. You are missing a few. Main: Greenstreet updates Springhill Suites Marriott (or is that 806 main?) State National Bank Sunset Coffee Building So that looks like four more for main. For Rusk you are missing the GRB upgrade. By the way, on your original list fur Capitol, you missed the Incarnate Word Garage
  20. Ok, all the different development have gotten me all confused Azalea Court River Oaks District West Creek Are three different developments right?
