  1. ah true, i guess its a different class of Hyatt. well the rendering of this one looks much nicer than theGalleria Hyatt.
  2. i dont know.. it just seems like the mall is so big, and with separate wings, it kind of makes sense to have names for the different corridors. especially if/when they plan on a Galleria V. as for you mentioning in a comment earlier hoping the residential highrise would be integrated into the mall nicely.. if its going in that "square" below SFA then the only connection into the mall is either walking through SFA or a corridor through the parking garage. neither are super appealing, but i guess it will work. id like to see it with a big open sky lobby/atrium built into the new portion of the mall, with a private/key coded elevator bank going up to the residential floors. oh well, im just glad they are trying to finally implement residential into theGalleria.

Galleria V? there are currently only 4 sections of theGalleria. the original Galleria I, Galleria II, this Galleria III, and then Galleria IV, branching south from Galleria II. i always thought it would be cool to have a galleria V branching west off Galleria IV into the church property, but there hasnt been a 4th expansion/addition to the mall yet warranting a Galleria V. i presume they will just keep the Galleria III name once the new wing is rebuilt, so the names will probably stick around. you may be right though. and Subdude, that is where the stand-alone luxury retail box stores will be that they mentioned in the original expansion announcement.
  4. You mean like in the churches parking lot? I always wished Simon would/could work out a deal to buy out part of or all of the church property for another expansion.
  5. Ah. I too was concerned there was no high rise mentioned, but you're right.. There is a plot of space outlined just below SFA. I had originally thought the high rise was planned to go on the northwest corner of the complex, at Westheimer and Sage..
  6. MOAR HIGH RISES!!! this along with the WestCreek developments will make the "urban canyon" along 610 feel even more like youre driving through a sea of high rises.

  10. agreed.. i would like to see commuter (heavy?) rail lines down Westpark (unless we build a LRT/commuter hybrid line along University Line/Westpark, then extend that out to the suburbs, like Dallas' lines), Hempstead/290 railroad, and Hardy out to The Woodlands or Conroe. possibly even one to Galveston, but that would obviously have way less riders and make much fewer trips. i still wish a Galveston extension could be worked in to the Houston-Dallas high speed rail line. the other corridors like 288, 90A, (possibly Westpark), and i10 could be fine with a LRT hybrid line, as i dont think they need the capacity for commuter or heavy rail, or (in the case of i10) needs more stops than optimal for commuter rail (through the Energy Corridor).. Westpark and i10 are the only two out of those 4 i see that might need additional capacity, so the trains could either be longer than the standard 2 car METRO trains, or they could run the LRT trains along those routes more periodically. i definitely think Houston will need some form of express rail in the next few decades..
  11. did you not see my math on the previous page? even a line down Westpark (with only 4 stations in between Hilcroft and Wheeler) that runs for over 5 miles at a top speed of 60 mph would take around 15 minutes to traverse between the two hubs. underground would be nice, but it wouldnt be any quicker than the line described down Westpark, and would be much more expensive. especially when METRO already owns the empty Westpark/power line ROW up to Montrose. would it have higher ridership? sure.. but depending on the cost difference between tunneling a line down Richmond and building one along Westpark, it might not be worth it. i think that is the real argument here.. i wonder why they cant reconstruct Richmond west of Shepherd since Culberson wont allow rail in his district? might as well rebuild the part that wont see any new rail (whenever they finally build the line), instead of just making the people of Houston and their vehicles suffer every time they drive down that stretch of Richmond. this. around 30 minutes just to get from Hilcroft to Wheeler? thats too long. people from uptown would probably be better off getting in their car and sitting in rush hour traffic if they wanted to travel to downtown/the museum district/the TMC/all the other destinations serviced by the current rail. a slow LRT line with many stops would be fine if we had an express/commuter-esque line alternative for people to take when trying to travel between the uptown line and the main street line, but for now i think a "hybrid" LRT line with minimal stops is our best bet for this route. we can come back and add more stations as needed in the future once another E/W line gets built.
  12. does anyone else find it interesting that they list US-59 with i45 under the same reconstruction project around downtown? could this be an indicator that they have already made up their mind for the alternative they are going to choose? surely they wouldnt do construction on both highways at the same time unless they were both part of the same project, like the (what im hoping they choose) alternative of rerouting i45 along US-59 and i10, so they can tear out Pierce Elevated, or the one way loop option? i dont think they would list them both/do construction on both routes around downtown at the same time if they were only planning on widening the Pierce, and/or us59. i really hope they reroute 45 along 59/10.. the blvd they are proposing to replace the Pierce Elevated and Pierce St is wider than i would prefer though (i feel they really only need to add 1 more lane onto the already 5 lane wide Pierce St, so they have 3 lanes each way/make it bidirectional), but its better than the hulking barrier that exists on the south and west sides of downtown currently. the ideal situation would be to do what i said and add one more lane to Pierce St, so it functions and has similar capacity as Allen and Memorial, and leave the majority of the space that existed under the Pierce Elevated/45 ROW for development of new highrises, parks, ect..

  14. What is the likelihood that this gets cancelled due to a lawsuit? It would be a shame for Hines to get this far and then have to stop.. It would be like Houston's own little version of the Chcago Spire. I hope the rumors about cracked foundations and stuff aren't true and it turns out the foundation had already been cracked. You would think Hines would hire contractors professional enough to not damage stuff around them. They manage to do it in downtown all the time. Why would it be any different here?
  15. i have to give it to them, location wise.. it will be a perfect spot for an iconic new tower. the property lines up perfectly with the middle of Post Oak when you are heading north. not to mention it would balance out the Uptown Skyline w/ Williams Tower (if its ~60 stories or so like the conceptual renderings indicated a building could be)
  16. i always thought one of the empty blocks around ExxonMobil would make a great place for a submerged/underground-yet-open-air plaza/courtyard lined with retail/cafes around the 4 sides under the streets, with direct access into the tunnel system from the submerged park/plaza. it would solve the issue of wanting to build a new park for southern downtown, while spurring development on the other empty blocks around the site, just like the other new parks in downtown have done, while providing a location for all the new developments to tie into the tunnel system, boosting the number of people who use that stretch of underground, and providing a crucial link up to the surface that the mayor is trying to work on improving. with all that said, i find it sad this thread is in the Crater Houston Alliance subforum when 3/4ths of the people who voted on this like the building. i wish there were a way we could start a petition to save 800 Bell and convert the structure into residential/turn the fins into balconies. they could land 15,000$ per unit in incentives with the residential program. that alone should be enough to entice someone into converting the structure to residential. not to mention all the new office space coming on the market over the next 5 years that this will have to compete with. residential just seems like a safer bet, while preserving the historic/iconic structure.
  17. will the Hardy Tollroad downtown connector be all elevated, like Westpark? if so, am i the only one who thinks they should build a wider elevated platform than needed, for future commuter rail to run on, headed north until it runs on a new set of tracks along/in the middle of the current Hardy Tollroad, with a spur to the airport, and stops at The Woodlands and possibly Conroe? we need to start planning ahead...
  18. 609 Main, Block 35, Hines Market Square, Marriott Marquis, 6 Houston Center, Capital Tower, 1111 Travis, Hotel Allesandria, Hyatt Place, Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites should all be complete/topped out. and im not sure about the timeline on the other residential towers like 1400 Texas, Block 98, or especially Texaco Phase II. yeah i suppose Chevron Tower will be around halfway up. and maybe by that time more office towers will be underway if the market warrants them (depending on how quickly all this new space gets absorbed).. there will definitely be more residential highrises under way... edit.. ahh, i see Nate found the graphic.
  19. youre a blooming idiot. maybe we are just looking for 2929 Weslayan on the horizon and know what to look for now after spotting it so many times. i saw it from T C Jester north of i10 recently.. (granted i was on a small overpass, i was surprised to see it as before i had trouble spotting it from i10.. maybe because the trees from Memorial Park are so close to the highway?)
  20. i think its one of the nicer looking towers to go up in Houston so far this decade. one of the more unique ones at least. well determine if it looks anything like the renderings once they finish i guess. come back in 3-5 years and tell me its in the middle of nowhere.. no, its not on the side of a busy highway for all to see, but this tower will bridge the gap between Greenway and the new spillover from Uptown that has crossed over to this side of 610 (the multiple high-rises at Westcreek, and the 4 high-rises and 2 mid-rises planned for Azalea Court) agreed.. so many new residential projects have been announced since this tower started going up its insane. when they first announced this project how many residential towers were going up? im not sure i can name one.. (not to mention it was the tallest apartment/residential(?) the city had seen since OPP.. now there are a handful of residential highrises proposed that are at least 38 stories).. now you cant even keep track of the number of residential highrises proposed/going up across the city.
