  1. We're almost middle of the pack history-wise.. 16 teams were born in the 1880s and 90s.. MLB didn't expand again till 61-62 when 4 teams were founded including the Stros. 10 teams are younger than us. You could look at it as we're the oldest of the modern era teams. It's not the Stros fault they don't have 100 year history.. Harris County's population (37k) in 1890 was smaller than the current undergrad student body at A&M. Chicago had a population of 300k when the Cubs were founded in 1870 and over a million by 1890. All that history and only 2 championships... Hell, the Marlins are only 18 yrs old and already have that. Cubs blow.
  2. Add: Aggies just punched their ticket to the College World Series
  3. I would say equal in its significance... 98 Big Xii Championship - Sirr Parker's slant in OT , not only for the win and our only Big Xii championship, but also in denying K State their chance for the National Championship. Plus.. I was there and up front, so that play is etched in my memory. But I do agree... the last leg of that relay... serious afterburners and very amazing.
  4. I'm glad you you support all Texas teams ( except Tech, I assume) But let me throw some perspective at ya. Prior to 2009, We had only 4 National Titles in all sports.( 1 in football 1939, and 3 in softball ).. But since 2009, we've added 8 National titles. (3 men's track, 3 women's track, women's basketball a few months ago, and men's golf). In football, Mack may be the great recruiter.. they are leading the pack for the class of 2012 so far... but Sherman is catching up. We have the number 4 recruiting class for 2012 so far, That has never happened before. That being said... considering the fact that all of Mack's coordinators left when Florida stole Muschamp, and the fact that Gilbert is still your starting QB.. I don't see this season going much better than last for you guys. Just saying.. if ya didn't attend either school.. Now would be a good time to switch allegiance over to the Ags.
  5. Whoop.. Thanks for the videos. BTW.. this was a NCAA record.. no teams has ever won 3 times in a row.
  6. Bad ! No ! Pros (Sorrta): Rivalry with Rangers and Dallas ! Woohoo, I guess. Cons: Existing rivalries with Cubs and Cardinals kaput! Bigger Con: The other 3 teams in our AL West would be all on the west coast.. This mean much more travel time for division games, and a more road weary team. Seattle is twice as far as Chicago. Excluding Dallas, every city in our new division is farther or much farther than our farthest division city now ( Pittsburgh ) Bigger Con: Playing the majority of our away games in Pacific time. Ask Ranger fans how much they like having to stay up till midnight to finish a game. Lastly, except for the Yankee-BoSox rivalry, the AL blows. Screw em. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strictly geographically speaking, The ( non AL or NL West) team that would make the most sense in switching over to a Western League would be the KC Royals. They are just as far from LA as we are, but being in the middle of the country, they are 400 miles closer to Seattle. Move KC to the AL West... and move Milwaukee to the AL Central. Milwaukee would make the most since for a switch to the AL since they played there for most of their existence up till 97. MLB had the opportunity to even the leagues at 15 during the 94 expansion and decided against it for scheduling and Interleague Play reasons.. don't know why they would wanna visit this again.
  7. Can't wait to see how he attempts to triple down on this charade. That's what funny about this whole thread and feeble marketing attempt.. Before this, I didn't remember the old Lovett thread and had no thoughts, good or bad, of them. They were no different than any other suburban home builder. But now.. Now we got a bad guy to root against. Silverdart.. bad 'Decision'. You're now my Miami Heat of Houston home builders. And next time friends or family ask my opinion of Houston area home builders (and they do occasionally since I'm an architectural designer), I'm sure as hell gonna share this tale of Lovett and their (more unscrupulous than average) salesman.
  8. Not to hijack here... but two other interesting old buildings I've always thought could be great residential redo projects are the Power substation buildings at Dunlavy and Peden and the one at Polk and St.Charles.
  9. Just curious.. do you remember the ballpark listing price ?
  10. Perry should be jumping in shortly. Most of Newt's campaign staff have bailed.

I think It's not always a result of chromatic aberration. It can also be caused by processing, interpolation, or stray light which would all be sensor issues. Seems I've read several camera reviews, not all fixed lens, that have mentioned purple fringe.
  12. "It's the economy, stupid" - James Carville Economy, jobs, debt.. that's all that's going to matter in 2012.
  13. Well.. I did stipulate the kind of bar I was referring to was a pub. But True. Cecils, Tavern, Royal Oak, Harp, Baker's St - Village, Gingerbread, Brian 'O Neils, Kelvin Arms.. they'll all have it. I think the list of pubs in central Houston that don't have it would be a shorter list.... I don't think the Black Lab or Poison Girl had St Arnolds last time I was there, but I could be mistaken since I don't always order St. Arnolds.
  14. All of them. I can't remember the last Houston pub/bar I went to that didn't have it.
  15. It is ugly.. but i think demolished would be worse. Unfortunately for us.. this particular architectural gem that we love is a retail store. Not a museum, not a church, not a house... just a string of stores. Retail is business and signage and rents really do matter to landlords and tenants, more so than style. So that leaves us out of luck for having loved the wrong piece of architecture. River Oaks is a lost cause. It will have ceased to be special once the transformation is complete. Will that stop me from shopping there occasionally.. no. Is ugly, boring, and a reminder of a beautiful center better than gone.. I think so.
  16. Does a 1 street, 35 townhouse, gated community really count as a neighborhood... and if it did, would it really be worth gushing about ? I'm sure the sunrise view across a 1 mile span of warehouses is quite lovely this time of year. And who the heck goes and looks at model homes for the fun of it except perspective buyers, which you are not. Nice try, Mr Lovett summer intern tasked with finding and correcting Lovett "misconceptions" on the web.

I agree.. on the timelapse board i frequent, most users are buying 3rd party Japanese remotes off ebay. The real professionals are buying external control units that control camera timing and dollies at the same time. I most definitely wouldn't buy a camera based on that one feature or give up another camera because it doesn't have that feature. This is the intervelometer i talked my mom into buying for her Xsi. I've used it several times and it works just fine.
  18. It is real physics, friction and gravity. It's clever use of an optical illusion. In any case.. "They cheated" is a far cry tamer than your initial "it's not real" so I'll accept that as your admission of defeat. And by 20th's new standard... say a small object was placed as a stopper at the bottom of one of the upright objects to hold it in place until its time to fall... if that small object is a nut from the car.. it is real and not cheating.. and if it's a small block of wood, it's not real and is cheating. That's pretty silly. You two must be balls of fun at magic shows.
  19. Check out the 2 links from post 6.. it can be done. It's all about changing the tire's center of mass. From the tire's perspective, it's using gravity while only appearing to oppose it. And even though those videos backed up what I thought made sense, I decided to prove it to myself by actually trying it. I stuck a very heavy magnet inside a empty coffee can and it rolled up a gently sloping book. It works and is pretty neat. Give it traction (rubber tire) and a much heavier weight and yes, it can handle steeper slopes and it will in fact accelerate noticeably. At 2:40 in the making of video, it shows a failed attempt at rolling the tires uphill.
  20. Nope as in it can't be done ??
  21. I was wrong... it was two takes spliced together by CGI due to studio size constraints. I don't know exactly what you mean by "Its not real".. are you saying the whole thing is CGI.. parts are CGI? part are aided with invisible wire ? You don't know what you are talking about. And if you are referring to the when you say selective gravity.. It .BTW.. this whole making of "Cog" video is not real also.
  22. I think it's a badge of honor for some ad agencies to be able to pull off the crazy unbelievable commercial like that. I think ones such as this one are obviously real in that they are not CGI; it is a real physical instrument that probably took months to design and build, and it's really in the woods. The more important question for these kind of commercial/videos usually is it really done in one take like it appears to be. They pull away from the instrument to show an extended pan of the woods at one point.. that might be for a reason. Or it might not. I think the answer to that question usually doesn't detract from the commercial. The famous Honda "Cog" commercial is both real and the final product is the result of one take. The Rube Goldberg machine in OKGO's " " video is real.. But even though it is apparently one single camera take, there are actually at least 2 cuts in the video. Does that make it less real or less impressive? Not in my book. And if you wanna know approx cost of your kazzillion dollar video... this music video took about 6 months and $90,000 to produce. OkGo's " " is really one continuous shot, though using multiple cameras, over a span of 18 hrs + 8 days.Point is... because anything can be done with CGI and look 100% believable, sometimes the WOW factor is better achieved by not using CGI..... so don't be so skeptical all the time.

I see 2 things I might be concerned about under the Cons section of the DP summary Slow (50 seconds) buffer clear time (RAW-mode) Visible loss of detail at anything over ISO 400 in JPEG mode (noise reduction too strong) After reading the performance page.. I'm not sure if that buffer issue is only for continuous shooting or all shooting. Once you go Raw, you don't go back.. and I'd be very concerned about any significant delay between Raw shots. Specs say ISO goes up to an insanely high 25600, but like I mentioned earlier... if it's starting to show noise at 400, that's not good. The review( under noise )shows its not actually that bad up to 1600... but it does appear night shooting at 3200 and up wouldn't be possible. Another resource for you.... pretty much every camera is going to have a flickr group.. so you can see examples, and sometimes exif data, for different kinds of shots for any camera you are interested in. The group would also have a forum for you to see what issues users might have.
