  1. Though.. its lacking the cartridge slot on the back, and it doesn't appear to have the ability to connect to the old disc drives. Asking for a modern computer in a C64 shell that also hooks up to 25 yr old peripherals may have been asking too much.
  2. Be Still my heart.... Commodore 64.. making a comeback. http://www.cnn.com/2...dex.html?hpt=C2 http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_C64.aspx
  3. Your sloped roof is just part of the facade stretching back 20' or so. I think many would argue the specific aesthetic change you seek runs contrary to good architecture. Sloped shingles says I'm a residence or a church. Sloped shingles on a Randalls flagship says, I'm trying to be something I'm not. Flat roof on a strip center says, I'm being honest in what I am since I do in fact have a flat roof throughout. I like variety, and certainly don't mind or really care that much about strip centers with sloped shingled roofs.. but I certainly wouldn't want to retrofit every flat roofed strip center out there. Personally, I'd take that double decker strip center in 59 (shown) over a Vintage Park any day of the week.
  4. To be perfectly clear, I never thought you were insinuating a conspiracy. You got a -1 for me for piss poor timing and trying to start a fight. This was within 30 mins of this momentous news breaking. This was during if not before Obama's speech. Does Niche celebrate the news like a normal human being and like 99% of the rest of the country? Nope, with post # 2 on this thread, you intentionally set up a fight so that others, in your words, would fill in the gaps. You got -1 from me because I believe you knew exactly what you were doing.
  5. This topic was started yesterday... Calling Merge Fairy! Come in Merge Fairy! http://www.houstonar...town-phase-iii/
  6. Up next: Photo is NOT being released. Agree/Disagree with this decision? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I agree... We have the daughter and wife confirming the death as eye witnesses. We have numerous jihadists groups pledging revenge. We have the Muslim Brotherhood singing his praise as a martyr. It seems we've convinced those that count already. I'm not sure how releasing it can help. Morons have already released 2 pretty well done fakes, one of which has made front page on numerous foreign newspapers. Those that don't want to believe can just as easily claim the real photo is a fake too... another photo won't convince them. As for conspiracy theorists.. F them.. they too will always believe what they want to believe. I don't think the risk of inflaming the Arab world, giving them more reason to fight, and endangering our troops is worth it to appease those that won't be convinced anyways. Anderson Cooper had a good closing thought last night with the appropriateness of dumping him off the ship into the vast darkness of the ocean. No gravemarker. No possibility of a shrine. A little fish in a big ocean. He's gotten his 10 yrs of fame...Time to move on. Honor the victims, but not by constantly remembering UBL. I think not releasing the photo for years, if ever, helps to that end.
  7. The call was almost an hr ago.. and chron, kprc, and khou are reporting nothing yet.. so hopefully it is nothing.
  8. I'm not really sure how we judge credit received vs credit deserved here... But both Newsweek and Rasmussen are saying Obama has gotten virtually zero bumps in the polls and most news analysts are saying any bump will be short lived ...so if the election is any indication of credit received, I hope you end up wrong.
  9. I'm not going to get into the %s.. I only opened my mouth because you implied earlier than O and W deserve zero credit.. 0%. I think that's wrong. Obama would have gotten the blame had it been revealed that we knew where he was but failed to act. He would have gotten the blame a la Carter had had the mission gone FUBAR. I think its only fair to give him his share of the credit for an outstanding successful mission. .. and that's coming from a military-loving conservative.
  10. You should probably consider a name change, amigo - TheOmNicheEnt
  11. Did the project fairy leave the major project on your desk? You wouldn't have anything to work your butt off on if it weren't for your manager/boss/principal-in-charge securing that project for your firm. The entire chain of command deserves credit. As awesome as the SEALs are and as proud as I am of their job well done.. .. they'd be sitting at home doing squat if we didn't have a commander-in-chief willing to build the infrastructure and gather the intelligence by any means neccessary that would allow the SEALs to act. They'd be sitting at home doing squat if we didn't have a commander-in-chief willing to take a huge risk and pull the trigger to unleash them. Bush and Obama both deserve credit.
  12. As snarky as Niche's reply was.. I think he's right. The location you mapped wouldn't make sense - They would have to be on Gray or Webster for that much retail to make sense. I think the old Houstonist article is correct - on the 3 blocks right next to Post II - bounded by Webster, Gray and Valentine And Holy @!$@.. streetview is working for the first time in a yr. Well, that was a fluke. Nevermind.
  13. http://www.msnbc.msn...h_of_bin_laden/ Pros- It was those sometimes controversial interrogations that first produced descriptions of members of bin Laden’s courier network, including one critical Middle Eastern courier who along with his brother was protecting bin Laden at his heavily fortified compound in Abbottabad. After Qahtani was subjected to some of the humiliating interrogations at Guantanamo that later became public, he started to cooperate and, for a while, provided a wealth of information about al-Qaida, including references to the courier in question, the U.S. official said. In addition, a senior U.S. intelligence official told NBC News investigative producer Robert Windrem that both Mohammed, who was repeatedly waterboarded by the CIA, and al Libi, who was aggressively interrogated but not waterboarded, provided the nom de guerre of the courier. Cons- “They waterboarded KSM (Khaled Sheikh Mohammed) 183 times and he still didn’t give the guy up,” said one former U.S. counterterrorism official who asked not to be identified. “Come on. And you want to tell me that enhanced interrogation techniques worked?" Like some of the detractors in the article, you're focusing to narrowly on what he didn't give.. a name. He did however reveal his hand. He gave up enough useful information by what he said and how he said it that indicated the importance of this particular courier and that this was a thread worth pursuing. Also.. we are not only talking about KSM here. I only mentioned him as representative of all the HVTs we interrogate for info. I believe the torture question has been answered. I understand the flip side of the argument that not all info gained under torture can be trusted, but I also firmly believe that good information can and does get produced. 3 cheers for the Jack Bauer Doctrine.
  14. You could politicize this either way. If it weren't for the torture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in 2007, under the detention and interrogation structure set up under Bush, we wouldn't have started the intelligence chain on the couriers' identity that led to the actionable intelligence that led to this mission. Obama did a great job, but he couldn't have done it without Bush. Both administrations deserve credit. This should be a victory for all Americans, regardless of your views on Iraq. Anyone who tries to politicize this so soon will be marginalizing themselves greatly.
  15. ... America !! Yeah !!!!
  16. This probably deserves a new thread... but since this is here and active - chron has an article this morning about other planned east end improvements. http://blogs.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/04/street_makeovers_part_of_bigge.html
  17. Tickets and admission for use of a park ? That's just crazy talk.
  18. Maybe they can set up a 2fer package deal for visitors that also wanna visit HCAD.
  19. Well.. then I hope for your sake you have a very low balance left. I wouldn't wish dealing with that office in person on anyone.
  20. You do have one more option. College Station may no longer have an actual passenger station.. but they do have freight. When I lived there, several times I thought about how cool a trip it would be to hop a box car and ride that down highway 6 and into Houston. It's probably the romanticism of the idea but I still think that would be cool as hell. Disclaimer: This idea is purely fantasy and should not be attempted. 21. Several times, I've gotten email alerts telling me my card is soon to expire and to log in to renew it. You probably need to just do the same.. not have to deal with hassle of going down to their office.
  22. If you're only riding 2-4 times, the $3-5 lost shouldn't be a deal breaker for ya. I personally find the increase in movie theater prices in the past 15 yrs to be exorbitant and disgusting and I'm not against pulling out an old student ID to save a few bucks and stick it to the man. Metro is on to this trick and will make you earn you discount. STUDENTS Must be able to Provide the Following: K-12 (mail in form available below, or visit the METRO RideStore) Download PDF of Student METRO Q® Fare Card Registration Form Name required on METRO Q® Fare Card Current school ID, class schedule, enrollment form or report card (on school letterhead) No photo on METRO Q® Fare Card Must be registered [*] College: (only issued at METRO RideStore) Download PDF of brochure Must show (a fee receipt with a current class schedule) credit hours to qualify or a letter from the college verifying (current) full time status. Government Issued Photo ID - required Must show credit hours to qualify or letter from college verifying full time status: Undergraduate – 12+ hours Graduate – 9+ hours [*] Photo is required on METRO Q® Fare Card
  23. Sounds like a battleship parked in the turning basin would have made for a great neighbor.
  24. I wouldn't say the card itself is a ripoff.. its not like you have to buy the card. The cancellation of some of the pre Qcard passes that were available, like the daily pass, that though probably did cost some people some money. The nightmare though is dealing the the Q card physical office or their online help reps. Gvt bureaucracy at its finest. Student discount wouldn't help you in your situation.. buying the Q card isn't the issue. You can do that online and have them mail it to you. But you would also have to take your Q card to the downtown office along with class schedules to get the discount for your card. BUT, if you're only riding the bus a few times over the course of a short stay.. saving a few $ is not gonna be worth the hassle.
  25. My metro experience is more negative than positive with the wait times, but mostly still acceptable. My only real negative experience was a few years ago. After waiting for the 78 at the corner of Weslayn and Richmond for a very extended 20-30 min wait, the 78 finally shows up. However, the driver asked me how far I was going.. upon telling her I was heading pretty far into town, she said she couldn't let me on because she was at the end of the line and that I needed to catch the 78 going the other way. Here's the issue though.. the 78, like i imagine most lines, have loops at the either end. My stop was inside that loop, meaning there was no 78 going the opposite direction. She said she could only take me as far as Timmons or something and that I would then need to walk to Buffalo Speedway to catch a 78 going in the other direction. Lucky me, caught the tardy driver at the end of her shift I guess.. which makes a heck of a lot of sense during the evening commute.
