  1. Nope.. Sorry.. I've already put an order in with the local sign manufacturer for 20 "Little Italy District" signs for all the major intersections in Montrose. Go get your own district you non-italian.
  2. Well for one thing.. India and Pakistan hate each other so I doubt the Pak population is too thrilled. That's the problem.. Hundreds of ethnic populations are represented on Harwin... so why should one specific ethnic group win out and set claim to the entire area ?
  3. Awesome.. I saw several canoes filled with trash but it was the vast minority, so kudos to you for taking the time to do that. It did look like a blast.. This was my first time to witness it but I definitely look forward to joining in next yr. You might be in the video.. by the time i moved to the finish line, it was mostly the stragglers, the last 30 or so.
  4. I felt the same way for the 1st clip. You would have loved the first music I tried putting to it - some of the fast paced western tracks from Rango.
  5. If any of you happened to participate in the Buffalo Bayou Regatta this past Saturday and saw the nut under the Voss bridge taking photos of you, that was me. This was my first attempt at timelapse photography... and boy, do i feel I have a lot to learn still in order to get it up to professional grade. Regardless, It was certainly a fun way to spend a Saturday morning. Enjoy.
  6. You wouldn't. Latin is a dead language, foo !!
  7. He was just being a smartarse, insinuating I should go into the developer business since I'm all debbie downer on this project. Listen, I'm for any and all development in midtown, including this one... and I'm glad for the residents over there since this will displace some of your homeless. I just don't think a project this small is worth getting all woo-hoo over. Wake me up when a 10+ level commercial building is planned for midtown. Unless of course the renderings are just absolutely stunning.. cuz then I'll certainly enjoy watching this disappointment unfold when it fails to meet expectations That's always exciting for me.
  8. Midtown and Downtown lots are 250'x250'... or 62,500 SF. The latest commercial addition to Midtown, the multistory clinic at Fannin and Mcgowen, doesn't even take up half their lot and still has a footprint of about 22k SF. It is 3 levels and it probably about 60-65k SF total. The fact that the article says they are developing 1 building yet purchased 2 lots tells me that one of those lots will be parking. This means that minus setbacks, they still have over 50,000 SF to work with. This will either be a 1 or 2 story building (depending on the range of programmed SF given) if they utilize their entire site, 3 levels at the most if for some reason they can't or choose not to utilize their entire site. 4 levels minimum would mean they are only able to build on 1/4th of one of their lots. Not likely.
  9. While any development in this economy is welcome, and I wouldn't mind seeing more mid-rises and hi-rises going up in midtown.. This project doesn't get me excited. 40-60k SF is only 2-3 levels And quoting from the first link, I wouldn't agree that "this corner over by St. Joseph is screaming for development"... it is 6 and 8 blocks from the two nearest LRT stations. That corner of midtown should be at the back of the line. I'm glad its getting built, but it doesn't seem like anything to write home about.
  10. Least you won't have to worry bout Tech letting ya down
  11. I never saw the original post that you deleted; I was strictly referring to post #61 and I don't see what else in that post that changes the meaning of "explain the loathing I feel for people who get all murderous over injustices commited against infants or toddlers...society's least valuable and most easily (and enjoyably) replaced demographic.". Which by the way is by far the longest and most substantial of the 5 sentences in post 61 so again, I don't see how you can claim I latched on to a tangential portion of a longer post. "Two wrongs don't make a right" would have a sounded a lot better than "Don't cry over spilled babies". You know.. I now see that you were responding directly to Markmu's post #15, specifically the "suffer the same excruciating death that she made those poor kids suffer.".... but you didn't bother to reference that in either your edited post #49 or #61. Post 61 on its own paints you in a horrible light.. and it stands alone when you can't bother to reference what you are responding to. If those were your feelings absent the retaliation aspect, my complaints and disgust with your outlook would stand. Anyways.. Enough of this misunderstanding.. Glad you're not a baby hater.
  12. None of which Niche mentioned in his "disposable-child" post.... therefore irrelevant to my response to niche's reply.
  13. Your economic-tinted glasses gives you to a pretty sickening outlook on things. I don't see anything wrong with outrage expressed over injustices against society's most innocent and defenseless members. ...Who shared his feelings from the point of view of having a kid in daycare. Something you obviously can't relate to. Half a dozen families were just destroyed by this ignorant piece of crap. And contrary to your idea that a child is just a worthless commodity, easily replaced, losing a young child does devastate parents and can destroy homes. I sure hope (for your sake) you keep your twisted outlook to yourself while courting the ladies.. otherwise, i just don't see a wife and children in your future.
  14. http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=77073 Tata has been added to the America's Most Wanted website. I didn't know that show even existed anymore.
  15. I was going very very broad since the answer to Editor's question really is simply "Nothing". No hard feelings amigo... Just didn't want you to think you were the only haifer with an architecture degree. I apologize for getting attitude.
  16. I never implied that they only were and did everything I could to indicate the stretch I was making. And i did say that they were a key element of "classical" architectural periods, going more broad than just Baroque. I'm fully aware that one element of a style does not a style make but I chose to focus on the one element of the style (and the broader "classical") that happened to tie into a very significant part of Houston's architectural history because it's the closest link to anything classical we have. Your "quick comparison" seems to imply that domes were out of style and no longer used in the Baroque period, and that simply is wrong. Please don't wiki-lecture me again.
  17. +1 for a great thread. Awesome pic of Transco going up.
  18. I wonder if the person who asked this question realizes America, and certainly Houston, didn't exist during the Baroque period. I wouldn't necessarily consider it baroque, but the first thing that pops out to me at least being faux classical is the statue in the Med Center on Holcomb that looks like it could have come out of any fountain in Italy. Going out on a very long limb here.... but arguably, the Astrodome could be considered the closest thing we have to Baroque-inspired if you consider that domes were such a key architectural element during classical architectural periods (admittedly, more the Renaissance than Baroque) and that the Astrodome, when built, was by far the largest dome in the world ( almost twice as big as the previous record holder ) and it held this title for a decade. Very long limb.. I warned ya.
  19. No, I'm talking about John Faulk in the '10 general election.
  20. This post has been edited by Editor to remove off-topic content. Please keep this thread on topic, or it will be closed.
  21. For it to have legs that count.. it has to get into the hands of Houston's African American community. .... And even then.. it might not matter.
  22. Ya know, looking at it.. her district isnt as heavily black as I originally thought... A Republican might never get elected, but a strong enough Dem should be able to oust her. From Wiki - Congressional Dist 18 36.9% White, 40.4% Black, 35.6% Hispanic, 3.4% Asian, 0.4% Native American, 0.5% other I don't have PS here or I'd merge these to a handy graphic.. but compare the NYTimes Ethnicity map* to her District boundaries *Can't link directly to the correct map.. you'll have to click on the More Maps tab
  23. I voted for her no-name opponent last election. The guy must have barely campaigned because hen I got to the polling booth, there was zero name recognition. When was the last time an african american ran against her in the D primaries... seems like that's the only chance of dethroning her.
  24. Holy Hell.. Houston Pres linked to this Daily Caller article. If you already hate SJL, you're gonna love this. If you're one of the few people that like/respect her, and you still like/respect her after reading this, then you're messed up in the head. http://dailycaller.c...la-jackson-lee/ A lot of politicians give nicknames to their aides. George W. Bush famously referred to his attorney general, Alberto Gonzalez, as “Fredo.” Mitch Daniels, then head of the Office of Management and Budget, was known as “The Blade.” Barack Obama reportedly called Larry Summers, his chief economic advisor, “Dr. Kevorkian.” Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas also hands out nicknames to the people who work for her. The Houston Democrat addressed one of her employees as “you stupid mother****er.” And not just once, but “constantly,” recalls the staffer, “like, all the time.”
