  1. Aggieland doesn't need lightrail or any additional means of mass transit beyond the bus system they already have. Both the on-campus and off-campus bus lines worked very well. Parking is not any bigger an issue that at other universities, the amount of student parking lots, garages, and pay parking was always adequate. The biggest reason why this would be a flop in BCS is that there is no concentration of off-campus housing. Anywhere the university isn't, there is residential student and employee housing potential. Having one commuter line along Wellborn wouldn't scratch the surface of reaching off-campus students, profs, or employees. And why drive to one of the nodes, park, to ride the rail in when you could take the existing extensive bus system. The only time parking demand is greater than what's available on campus is the half dozen home football games each fall, and again, there is already a well-used and free bus network to bring in fans from different staging points around the city. Another reason why it's not needed. This is a university. While there is a plan for controlled growth (facilities and enrollment), the potential to plan for servicing that growth ( parking ) can be implemented too. While the city may keep growing, seems the demand for access to the university is relatively known and finite. ( Enrollment will ever only get so high ).
  2. i didn't realize tamiflu wasn't an OTC drug and figured I'd pick some up for my wife who does have some sort of sinus issues going on while shopping for other items at CVS two nights ago. The pharmacist informed that it was in fact a prescription drug, but that they, and most pharmacies around the city were already out. so yeahh.
  3. Cool.. now we can monitor the destruction of civilization in real time... http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&amp...5.78125&z=2
  4. y'all read about patient zero shopping in the galleria the day before coming down with the sickness, i presume / http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6400968.html
  5. That would probably be the god-awful music that put you in a miami state of mind.. Awful.
  6. What a crappy night. 4 hours ago, we had the potential for #2 in the west... One shellacking by Dallas later, along with a a Michael Finley 3 ptr at the buzzer to send the Spurs game into OT, which they then won.. and we're now sitting at #4 A Portland win tonight will be the icing on the cake.... @#$@^$@#%@#$ So much for the Conf. Finals.... Looks like we'e gonna face LA in the 2nd round now.
  7. I wasn't clear, sorry. I meant this neighborhood is roughly a mile or 2 from MedCenter/Rice homes and the same distance from Upper 3rd Ward homes.... polar opposites.. it's a middle (transitional) area of which honestly, I've never had reason to be curious about. Course.. this is houston, so there are transitional areas everywhere.
  8. well.. the lot i was referring to has already razed whatever it held to the ground. There are 3 lots, 53k, 60k, and 70k in that neighborhood.... which compared to other prices I've been seeing, seem more comparable to questionable neighborhoods, or properties right next to RR tracks... Like i said.. i know nothing about this area. To me its a transition zone of which I know nada... but it seems pleasant enough from a clueless google maps perspective.
  9. I admit, my only knowledge of Riverside Terrace used to be on the rare occasion when i would exit UH to the south and wonder what those mansions were on the other side of the bayou. If this neighborhood is so golden, why is there what looks to be a decent sized cleared corner lot across the street from some mansions going for under 55k.. History of this neighborhood aside.. that seems like quite a steal.
  10. For dirt bikes and hybrids.. yes. For road bikes, not so much. You find riding a bike on gravel or dirt to be challenging ?
  11. awesome video and good job with the editing
  12. Unless of course you're one of the Wedge Bldg VIP's, of which i know a few, lucky enough to have a spot right there...
  13. Called Cherry. The official viewing area is the parking lot in front of Sports Authority, however the person i talked to said the parking garage just north of Guilford is not in the secure area and will not be closed down by them. I don't know how secure that garage normally is, but even if you can't get your car up there, walking to the roof shouldn't be a problem.
  14. Looks like there is a good parking garage to set up at across guilford... should be a great vantage point if it's not closed off.
  15. You're right.. that was harsh and dumb of me. Its also occurring to me why I've never had this problem. I never just tell people i 'went to UH' .. when it comes up I mention that i got my masters degree from UH. Is that even possible at UH-D? I also mention the program.. and there are certain programs that nobody would mistake for being at UH-D. Also.. maybe this helps too... I never say UH... I say the University of Houston. Maybe I'm just naive... I didn't even know there was a UH-D until i moved back to houston and was in grad school. And i dont think I realized that t was a separate university and not just a satellite campus till my early days on HAIF. Still, I've never had to explain which UH I went to nor do i feel that the existence of UH-D waters down my degree, so I care more about them wanting to change their name to something that might get confused with and/or devalue another local school.
  16. i've heard that this project is on hold, that they wont get financing go-ahead until they reach a certain % leased.
  17. Doesn't look that way to me. http://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/T...District/81099/ http://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/T...per-Kirby/79938
  18. I live close enough to have to pass it several times a day. i don't know what percentage of units are occupied.. but I can tell you that every night, the entire west side of dunlavy from richmond to the dog park is occupied by occupant's/visitor's cars. I can tell you there is 1-2 moving vans a week at the loading dock on dunlavy. One can see right into the open parking garage from the park, so it should be easy enough to glance and see what percentage of the garage is filled up with cars at night. I'll try to remember to do that on the way home, but it seems to me they are doing okay.
