  1. I've never seen a place that has the fries inside the gyro.. Where in town are they like that ? I've never considered the fries instrumental to the gyro..
  2. Never had the shawarmas here, I assume they have them.. but the gyros are pretty damn good... The Greek Gas station on Richmond... http://www.datasegura.net/~ekkosdel/ It used to be called Stelios.. but now it goes by Ekko's...... Better than Niko Niko's anyways.
  3. Though I didn't have a camera on me, I did see some of the access improvements going on while biking. At the point in the trail where it travels under Memorial for about 100 yards.. Right here... On the Western end, they have been building a rather nice curved stone wall under Memorial. It appears they will be adding a trail running along the North side of Memorial from this point to Montrose in order to connect connect the new bridge with Montrose and the existing trail system.
  4. I agree an outdoor shopping area would be popular today.. with the consumers. I never said otherwise. I said it wouldn't be remembered so fondly today if it weren't for the hippies and the "cool" factor they attached to it. By today's architectural standards, Westbury Square should have been universally hated. It was in the suburbs. It was contrived. It was a Hollywood set.... The same reasons that today nobody with an Inner Loop mentality would consider Vintage Park, Sugarland Town Square, or Pearland Town Center architectural gems or cool places to go. Vintage Park = Boring, Fake Vintage Park plus Hipster Infiltration = Awesomeness
  5. Westbury Square was before my time, so I admit my perspective may be skewed.. I'm guessing if the counter-culture/hippie component hadn't have latched on to the place, nobody would give a damn about Westbury Square today. Certainly it wouldn't have maintained the aura of cool that it has. By today's standards... it's suburban and a faux disneyworld lifestyle center... everything Urbanistas hate. I understand that this outdoor concept was pretty ahead of its time for Houston .. but still, would it have still maintained this aura and reputation without the hippies.. I doubt it. Props for the well done video however.. Good job.
  6. I'd be the first in line huh Ricco? Well glad you know me that well to make such a statement.
  7. Should we have a finish line yellow streamer set up for the guy?
  8. I guess they were way wrong if they went from "probable collapse" to "open for business" a week later.
  9. Sounds like a neat idea and a fun time. Look forward to the photos. Good luck.
  10. I'll bike through 3rd ward.. but damn man.. you crazy. And what was that walk.. 5 miles? You double crazy. Great photo thread though.
  11. Also.. don't park in the neighborhood across Weslayn... I've seen them towing from there too. I love the Edwards.. like others have said, I feel it's pretty much the only big theater left inside the beltway that is pretty much devoid off loud teenagers and asshats during the movie ( not true in the lobby anymore though ). Musts for movie nights include smuggling drinks and snacks inside your wife's purse and getting there 10-15 minutes ahead of time to ensure enough circling on cummins to grab a street spot. Another way to get by cheaper.. student discounts. Not only is my wife a student, but since being laid off earlier this year, I'm now a part-time student and I figure I should be able to least get half a decade out of my new little piece of plastic. While I agree with those that have extolled the virtues of netflix, for those of us poor folks that still live off just a 25" non HD Tv and a meager decade old sound system... netflix just won't cut it for some movies. And there is the occasional movie that you just don't want to wait for. My wife and I go to maybe 2-3 movies a year these days.
  12. As Spring arrives, everyone be extra careful with your bbq pits... Now that we no longer have a fire dept to come save us. Apparently Station 16, Richmond at Dunlavy, suffered a floor buckling today and is close to collapse. All personnel has been relocated and the station is closed indefinitely. http://swamplot.com/breaking-fire-station-news/2010-04-02/
  13. Actually, central park had been around about 15 years when the Met was built within the park, but yeah, that probably wouldn't be allowed today
  14. This term sure is popular lately. I've heard it more in the past 6 months than ever before. Several times on the Chron Lost blog....I think I heard it on House... plus today I saw someone use "Occam's Norelco" on a sports blog talking about the Big X expansion.
  15. It's about time Tootsies signed a lease. They have been dragging their heels for a year, antsy that nobody else was signing.... And this was causing a rippling effect because so many planned tenants were waiting to sign until they knew the pseudo anchor Tootsies had signed.
  16. Speaking of random lofts downtown.... One Bayou Park / Tennison Lofts... looks like after a decade of sitting there, they're being marketed again. Tennison Lofts. I never need to be on that side of downtown. Is this old news? Looks like they've been on Sandra Gunn's website for half a year now.
  17. @%@#$@#... Exactly. "Fire in the Sky" scarred me for life.... I couldnt even watch America's Most Wanted back in the day.
  18. <-- Is glad the quality of police sketches has improved. Big-eyed B&W police sketches of the 90's used to freak me the hell out.
  19. Texan's Slimmest of chances still alive. Key Week 15 games Colts / Jags Titans / Dolphins Texans / Rams Falcons / Jets Bears / Ravens Raiders / Broncos Packers / Steelers Ideally, we want everyone in the first column to win.... That would result in 6 teams tied at 7-7. But worst case.. Assuming Broncos win 2 of their next 3, they lock up one of the wild card spots. And assuming Texans win out... We are still in it even if only the undefeated Colts win in the above games. If that happened, we would need help in 3 additional games in weeks 16 and 17 to get in by tiebreaker over the Dolphins. Slimmest of chances... If you pray for one team to lose this weekend, make it the Ravens. They have the easiest of schedule in the final 3 and we really don't want it to come down to praying for an Oakland win over them in the final week.
  20. Your mention of it is the first I've heard of any retail component at Park Place. I don't know if this is still relevant since it's from a 06 press release, but for what its worth... The Park Tower will not only attract residents to downtown, but with a total of 21,800 square feet of retail space in two sections on the pedestrian level, plans call for a specialty gourmet grocery store, wine merchant, specialty coffee shop and sidewalk café.
  21. I'm not sure how much this one can be pinned on Kubiak. Kris Brown wasn't the only choker last night... Slaton and Johnson both had dropped passes in the 2nd to last drive when we were tied.
  22. I'm not home... I've tried channelsurfing.net and justin.tv... both not working despite listing the game ...... does anyone know of a working place online to watch the 2nd half of the game ?
