  1. Attica.. seriously. You can't possibly expect them to walk the 1/4 mile to the zoo entrance without an urban tunnel can you ??
  2. Future headlines for City Hall to blow their horn at... Houston: Celebrating a record 4 days without an Ozone/Smog Warning... Houston Heights: Celebrating 1 week without a fire....
  3. http://politicalblog.abc13.com/2009/10/hpd-yea-no-murders-in-10-days.html Why would the city celebrate this and make a big deal of this? I for one was blissfully ignorant of that statistic. Celebrating and pointing out to Houstonians what a rare treat for us it is that we've reached this rare milestone in lack of murders only highlights how crappy our crime rate is 99% of the time.
  4. I'm 95% sure that's the site for the new Houston Ballet building. It won't be 22 stories or residential. http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/index.php?showtopic=17042&st=80
  5. "It's life Jim, but not as we know it.... not as we know it.... not as we know it."
  6. All by the same guy. You just need to dummy-proof the system. Is there an option to make older threads read-only to people below a certain post count? I've gone back and found old threads when new information is relevant.. i don't think the ability to add to an existing, but old, discussion should be taken away from the experienced users.
  7. To quote Maddox: "That's the distance you'd have to move your pinky in order to not sound like an idiot."
  8. I still have a working C64 with about 50 floppys worth of games at my folks place... that thing was awesome. Forever Load "*",8,1
  9. The observation deck in the Williams Tower has been closed to the public for years... you should probably get out more.
  10. Stopped by about 8 tonight to grab a few shots. They've been at it for about 20-22 hours now.. . i don't see how they're possibly going to be done by the end of the weekend.
  11. The city awarded Cherry the contract over a week ago. And while i don't know when the owner also picked Cherry after stepping in, Cherry had to be ready to step in and fulfill the cities obligation had the owner not initiated demolition by this weekend. Point being, Cherry had over a week.. which seems like a reasonable amount of time to plan a implosion of a relatively small building. ... and grouping me in with some wacko conspiracy group was pretty unnecessary.
  12. yah.. sounds pretty anticlimactic. Appreciate the play-by-play though.
  13. I wasnt aware it wasn't going to be an implosion.. i thought that was the norm. Midnight sucks... anyone going out to video it ??
  14. do we have confirmation its coming down tonight ? the rail was set to stop service tonight through sunday. i saw the heightened police presence this afternoon.. but it makes more sense that they are just gearing up for a demo tomorrow during daylight.
  15. awesome pics... thanks dude.. It's a shame, but photo 11 is exactly why this thing needs to come down. I had no clue it was so rundown.
  16. And mess up all our scenic drive-by views and covered parking ?? There's a whole thread on this... knock yourself out.
  17. I noticed something new.. i think.. on one of Metro's solution's maps today. The East End corridor map that came out last month update shows it merging with not only the SE corridor, but also the Red line. I think this is the first time Metro has indicated on a map the possibility of a switch between perpendicular tracks at this junction.... or at wherever the proposed downtown junction would be. This intersection is at Capitol and Main... the mostly vacant block, home to Texas tower and formerly a mcdonalds. I guess Metro will be getting their eminent domain on a corner of that block. Also according to the update: demolition has begun on 4 properties and utility relocation work has begun
  18. I lived in BCS for over 5 years including less than a 500' from the intersection in question for one summer. 'Rural' may have been an exaggeration, but there is no intersection in BCS with the minimal ROW and surrounding density combination of the westheimer intersection in question. Wellborn, Finfeather, and the RR combine for a ROW of 300'. VillaMaria, at this intersection is next to a city owned golf course, and they have chipped away from the city land to increase the Villa Maria ROW to almost 200'. Compared to Westheimer having a ROW of about 60-65' and the RR having a ROW of 100'. 90% of the residential development at that Villa Maria intersection wasn't there 10 yrs ago. All the development that has gone up is typical suburban development with access roads well isolated from the intersection of the two major ROWs. Compared to Westheimer that has commerical access 50' from the tracks. You could have just contributed to the existing threads on grade separation at that intersection. Starting a brand new thread to compare two intersections that have a difference in ROW by 2-3x, and significant differences in surrounding land density, use, and access is asinine.
  19. You're comparing apples to oranges... grapes to watermelons Look at the villa maria site plan in the link you posted... then go to google maps and look at the westheimer intersection. Scale and context of the two locations is night and day. We know what underpasses look like.. we have them all over the city. Whether the westheimer location is a good candidate for an underpass is certainly something that can be debated.. but for you to highlight essentially a rural underpass as backup for why an underpass would work in a dense urban setting is ridiculous.
  20. Poor Big head on Main St..... i wonder if they're gonna move her prior.
