  1. Yeah this sucks. Conservatory is great as is in its current space. Big loss for downtown.
  2. Former Houston Press building, demolished earlier this year.
  3. Looks like we should see how this looks underneath soon, they are removing the panels. https://imgur.com/gallery/X6fzahX (Can't figure out how to get the photo in the post)
  4. I tried to walk there to watch a World Series game and they were closed - so at least a couple of months.
  5. Lucky for them it's rent and not mortgage and if you live downtown, you have to know that can happen.
  6. Finn does have the worst food of all of the downtown halls IMO. They could retool quite a bit. I liked Mala but they are gone right? Yong is good.
  7. I walked by it yesterday and there were people eating inside and dish society cooking that I could see from the sidewalk.
  8. I would assume fairly deep. That should change when the white oak bypass is complete but they would need to plan for that contingency either way I would think.
  9. I assume that they haven't sold MST yet? That worries me slightly that they won't go very tall to preserve MST views. That said, their MST investment (and this land investment) would both benefit from development here, so I wonder if they decide to go short to protect MST or just go tall as most views are going away with the Preston anyway.
  10. El Real did have the best cheese enchiladas in the city. It will be missed.
  11. It's not their customers as much as their loiterers. If a liquor store opens - cool - if it has customers who get hammered outside and pass out and yell at other customers/pedestrians - not cool. This store tends to be closer to the latter in my example.
  12. This store just needs to close, it’s a huge blight.
  13. i think so yes, but I still love the parking lot and the way the Montrose store fits in with the neighborhood
  14. i thought it was just reinforced? It doesn’t look new.
  15. Didn’t take long. https://m.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Fatal-shooting-reported-at-downtown-Houston-14414251.php
  16. This more or less the best way to describe the Texas public university "system". The state truly funds one system and it is broken into several. This fact only further shows the ridiculousness of establishing a UT Houston as "competition" for UH. There is one wallet; that wallet has leather dividers that allocate much more cash to one section than the next but to pretend that the wallet competing with itself is capitalism or anything other than a waste of money and a chance for UT fans to have their logo in this city is a pretty hard sell.
  17. North: I always hope that UH can somehow get all of the land east of Scott and west of the RR tracks up to 45. Buying Wholesale Electric and the old falling down homes north of Elgin would be awesome. West: I guess I could understand that pressure from the community if UH was all one race but, as it is one of the most diverse schools in the world, it seems like the pressure is to keep a neighborhood one race instead of many.
  18. Also went this weekend. Thought is was fantastic. Easily the winner of the food hall competition thus far.
