  1. Red I assume you weren't talking to me earlier. That bridge is over by norfolk right. I believe they built it like that so the Atlantic fleet could still leave the bay. Because if they had built a tall bridge for ships to pass under the fear was it could be bombed, trapping the ships.
  2. That is what I figured, but I didn't know if he was maybe comparing it to a different time period.
  3. Not all of the tunnels flooded I believe. Also new measures have been taken after Allison that will likely keep that from happening again.
  4. Yeah I think it was 80's or at most late 80's. It I believe it had support during Whitmire's time in office, but Lanier cancelled it. Maybe the pic is newer, but the proposal is from earlier.
  5. 80 cents compared to what or when?
  6. perhaps, I was just thinking if he wanted a specific photo one of us could take it considering he is in Chicago. EDIT: 900 posts
  7. I think that was only a proposal for a short cross downtown line that was perpendicular to the red line. I don't think there was anything definite with the plan. I can't remember the street it was supposed to go under. Was it Lamar? (I don't think that was it) EDIT: wasn't that pic from a proposal in the 80's?
  8. That was also posted in MARCH. It is now NOVEMBER for those who didn't notice. Numbers can change, geez. Also you tell us not to believe something posted without proof and then what do you do...(seriously who can't put a link, don't give me that) BTW I decided to look at Forbes to and guess what I found!!! http://www.forbes.com/sport/2004/09/01/04nfland.html #3
  9. Well a subway would be nice. Depending how it is built there would be little disruption in traffic patterns and the median would stay intact. I don't see how an above ground rail would solve any of the residents complaints other than it not running into cars. There would still be traffic disruption and the trees would probably have to go.
  10. Do you have an idea of what picture? A forumer may be willing to provide one of theirs free of charge.
  11. Exactly, since when do busses not count, not to mention we are aggressively expanding the rail system. Well since red mentioned the cleanliness I guess I can account for most of the busses in SW Houston. I have taken it about two or three times a week to work for many years and I have never run across a dirty bus.
  12. I hope it is not a surface lot. Here is how the block used to look so it is already nearly all parking.
  13. Well different sections of the city are different years. I know a few months ago they put these newer pictures for downtown (they are also higher resolution than the old ones). But the areas in the east and north of that pic are denser than they appear. From that altitude some blocks that have buildings appear to only be surface lots. As for skylines ours won't be as linear as NYC's and chicago's just because we don't have a lake or river restricting it. Also I love how the skyline looks when heading west on I-10 as wou exit onto 59. You have dense, shorter, older buildings in the foreground. While in the back are the tall post modern buildings.
  14. I guess it is harder when you come in late. The longest I usually have to read is maybe 1-1.5 pages, and that is only if I am gone for a couple days.
  15. dp2 are you supposed to be dalparadise2? Also regarding mosquitos has anyone else noticed a sharp drop in the past few years? I don't think I have been bitten once in the past two years.
  16. lol has anyone called the phone number recently? I may call it tomorrow. 713-880-1616 I doubt it will be built, but I guess there is always a chance.
  17. Seriously semipro, work on fixing those double negatives. So did you like Brown or not? I can't tell if you see someone staying in the public eye as good or bad. Also if you want to see Bill Whites accomplishments which you ignored read post #9.
  18. While I agree that they misjudged their audience, but I do not think people refused to buy because of how the building looks. I mean just look at the Huntigton in river oaks. It is just a white box. Or the Mercer, last I heard there were only 2 units left (several months ago). Not to mention it isn't very pink and there is no gold flame shooting out of the top.
  19. So this would under the overpass right? I think the only place this would be feasible is downtown. Nowhere else would there be enough pedestrian activity to give these places enough business.
  20. By truth do you mean what you actually said... "Houston's projects have even broken ground, and Houston gonna see theme parks for some time now." -as translated by red Or what you meant to say. Also responding seriously, what do all of the buildings under construction in uptown, the cathedral DT, the courthouses, and all of the mid rises popping up around the city count as? Considering you said the only place where projects have broken down is the TMC.
  21. I think it may be easier to choose a group of editors that you can trust so that everything does not have to go through an approval process. Then people could pm the editors if they have information that could be put on a building page. "(I think by Montrose1100)"
  22. Just curious do you all think Texas would be five states now if slavery had not been such a controversial issue when Texas was annexed? I know the north/abolitionists were against Texas splitting seeing as how it would give the south more control in the senate.
