making those boxes look sexy..

TBH, i know everyone hates on pretty much all things going up in the Energy Corridor (im often one of them.. wish downtown could get more projects, heh), but for people coming into Houston for the first time on i10 from San Antonio/out west it must be ****ing impressive seeing all of the highrises lining the freeway for dozens of miles as they approach the city.

I am a native Houstonian who moved back last year after a 20 year gig in LA. And I traveled back via I10. Yes, I was impressed and had seen the same stretch only 2 years before. I think it's great that thewest side is booming so much. Would it be even greater if the development was more evenly spread across the Greater Houston Area? Yes. BUT, I am amused that we are in a place where we can complain about the placement of said development, instead of the fact that there is any development at all! ;)

On Eldridge, work is chugging along on Trammel Crow's Energy Center. Building III will be 100% occupied by ConocoPhillips next May, and the company will move into Energy Center IV by the end of 2015. Next up: Energy Center V will break ground in the next 30 days. Together, the three buildings will add almost 1.7M SF of office space to the Energy Corridor.

Trammell Crow Co. has started the fifth and final building in its Energy Center development, an upscale campus-style office complex in the fast-moving Energy Corridor office market.

The new building, just south of Interstate 10 on North Eldridge Parkway, represents the latest in suburban office design, the company said.

"The bar has been raised," said managing director Aaron Thielhorn.

As companies increasingly use real estate as a recruitment and retention tool, developers are building nicer properties as they compete for tenants.

"Now we're seeing more amenities, more glass, landscaping, higher ceilings, a more high-end feeling campus," Thielhorn said.

The new building will have 524,397 square feet in 18 stories with a glass facade atop a limestone base. Above a two-story lobby, the offices will have floor-to-ceiling glass. The lower three floors of the Kirksey-designed tower will have 18-foot floor heights to accommodate such amenities as a dining facility, conference rooms and fitness center.
