Heights2Bastrop Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I was wondering; how many of you guys tip your barber, and how much?I have been searching for a barber here in Bastrop, and I think I found a winner at last. My GF was with me, and she questioned me as to how big a tip I left the barber. She chided me when I told her I left $1 for a $10 charge. Now, I Quote

MidtownCoog Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I usually give 5.00 for a 12.95 cut.Man. I give $5 on $25. I guess I am cheap. But I do go ever other week. Quote
west20th Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Man. I give $5 on $25. I guess I am cheap. But I do go ever other week.5.00 is probably not bad. If the cut is 25.00 the cutter/stylist is probably making more to begin with than the 12.95 cutter and is less dependant on tips. Quote

TJones Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I tip between $2 to $5 dollars for my $10 cut. HipClips on Mason rocks. Go see Pia. Quote
Parrothead Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Should be 15% at the very least. Now, there are some folks that say you don't tip if the barber/cutter/colorist is the salon owner as well, but I still do. Quote
TheNiche Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I'd do at least 15% for a $10 haircut-$1.50 but I'd probably go $2 if I liked them and intended to use them on a regular basis. You know what they say, "A little honey..."ditto Quote
Sebastian De La Ghetto! Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 (edited) I tip the 20 year old girl that cuts my hair 7 dollars. The haircut costs 13, i give her a 20 and a wink, and I walk out.I think it depends on the kind of relationship you have with your stylist/barber and or the quality of service.[Edit] - i only go once a month though... Mr. Chenevert Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I've been going to the same stylist for 6 years. She doesnt get a tip anymore. She wont accept it. Quote
Subdude Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Usually $5-$6. I don't think tipping a barber is out of hand. It's not like he has a tip jar sitting there. Quote

Were you the one that posted the story about the Pei Wei cashier holding out a water glass for you and you thought he was waving a tip jar at you? Too funny! Quote
lockmat Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 I normally tip between $1 and $3. Maybe it's just the way I was brought up, I don't know. Plus I'm po' Quote
Mark F. Barnes Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 $8 cut I hand Jimmy a Ten and tell him to keep it. Quote
westguy76 Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 10% if they do a good job, Nada if they butchered it. Quote
Pumapayam Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 I use those hole-in-the-wall $2.99 hair cut shops. The one I use has asian ladies who do a fine job. With tax, they charge me $3.24, and I just give them a $5.00 bill, leaving them a 54% tip.Sounds like a lot, but the cut is so thifty, it just works out that way.Mind you, it is just get a clipper cut, which includes a short fade; basically a shaved head, very simple.I go twice a month since.
