So the HBJ has a news item about a Beyonce/Rowland housing project that's 31 units. I can't tell if it's Temenos or an addition...

Midtown housing project named for Beyonce, Kelly Rowland getting $7.2M from Harris County

Looks like a new/additional project. The address in the article is 2019 Crawford not 1703 Gray as listed here.

Quote

Knowles-Rowland House LP, which is a partnership between local nonprofit Bread of Life Inc. and Houston-based Temenos Community Development Corp., is the developer behind the project, officials said. Pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus co-founded both Bread of Life and Temenos CDC.

The housing, which will be located at 2019 Crawford St. along with Bread of Life and St. John’s Downtown Church, was announced during a June 27 Harris County Commissioner Court meeting. The commissioners awarded $7.2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to Knowles-Rowland House LP for the project.

According to the Commissioners Court agenda item, the “shovel ready” project will be an adaptive reuse of the existing gymnasium on Bread of Life's campus. The units will be for people seeking to exit homelessness, and the project will be in alignment with the local Continuum of Care best practices for addressing homelessness. The support services team for the Knowles-Rowland project includes case managers, peer specialists and resident service specialists...

Beyoncé and her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, helped with the initial funding for the first housing project Temenos CDC built in 2006 after the company was founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, according to Temenos CDC's website. The first project, called Knowles Temenos Place Apartments, or Temenos I, is at 1719 Gray St. near the Bread of Life campus. The company's projects are all in the Midtown, downtown and East End areas, per its website.

In October 2021, Temenos CDC broke ground on Temenos Place Apartments at 1703 Gray St. (this thread) also near the Bread of Life campus as part of the city’s effort to relocate lower-income individuals whose existing apartments will be torn down to make way for the expansion of Interstate 45.

"existing apartments will be torn down to make way for the expansion of Interstate 45." <-- Is that in reference to Clayton Homes or a different complex that's being removed?

This project had been mentioned before, but I can't find the post. They are converting the gymnasium of St. John's Church into apartments.

This may be referencing the Temenos Place II apartments, which are on the block just north of I-45.

Edit: confirmed that a new flyover and off-ramp will encroach on the Temenos Place II apartments.

Also have we given up on stopping the 45 expansion thing / NHHIP? We still have a few years to possibly do something before it breaks ground.

You should bring it up in the NHHIP thread. But you should also probably give up on stopping it. It's happening and you should just start accepting it.

"The Knowles-Rowland House will cost around $8.4 million. It's getting a sizable boost from the American Rescue Plan, which is contributing $7.2 million to the project, alongside other supporters like Rice University, the Houston Chronicle reported. The housing complex will feature 31 new units of permanent housing built at the Bread of Life gymnasium."

I'm a little confused with previous comments that Temons Place Apartments will be torn down for a flyover ramp for the i45 project. The interactive maps below from the city and TxDOT both show the project's boundaries being on the outskirt of the apartments (does not include the apartment itself). Also, this portion of i45 will actually become disused. The picture with the gray lines in the highways will all be removed. No new ramp will go there. The red lines in the highways will just be leftover unused highway.

I have no knowledge to contribute here, but I sure hope you're right.

"Commissioners approved in June $7.2 million in ARPA funding for the Knowles-Rowland House, a permanent supportive housing development in Midtown named after Houston-natives Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland that will provide 31 units to individuals in need. That development will begin construction in the first quarter of 2024 with a completion date by the end of the year."

The yellow lines are proposed flyovers and the orange line is a proposed feeder roader. Both of which pass through the existing structure.

What you're zoomed in at is the east side of i45, the project taking place on the the west side. Look at the initial picture I posted.

The apartments that are being torn down (Temenos Place II) are on the east side. I think you're confusing phase one and phase two.

😅 You're showing i45 EAST of i69. There is no Temenos place EAST of i59, Temenos Place (the entire project) is in the northeast portion of Midtown (South of i45, WEST of i59). Where you zoomed in there is nothing that hasn't already been torn down for the last couple of years. The project is on 1615 Gray st, look at that address in relation to where you zoomed in. Where you're showing is on the complete opposite side of the freeway. Look below, the pin is where the project is located. The picture you sent is where I circled in red.

Also, think about it, i45 in midtown/ downtown is no longer going to be used. It doesn't make sense to add flyover ramps to a freeway thats no longer going to be used (in midtown/ in front of Temenos place).
