Subdude
The group of teenage boys that left early on in the high school letter jackets calling out to those of us that stayed to "enjoy your gay musical" was surprising too. Didn't these people have a clue Sounds like our "Brokeback Mountain" topic. Anyway, has anyone seen "The Family Stone"? Might go see that today. Montrose1100
I went to see the Chronicles of Narnia with my nephew... I kinda liked it.
Subdude
I saw "The Squid and the Whale" at the Angelika the other night. Not as dry as I thought it would be, but I liked it very much!I thought "The Squid and the Whale" was OK, but I couldn't get into it that much. The characters were all pretty unlikeable. One movie I would definitely recommend is "Match Point", the new Woody Allen one. It was really the best he's done in a long time. The plot is full of surprises. Subdude
Now that summer is almost over some good movies are opening. Over the long weekend I got to see both "Little Miss Sunshine" and "The Illusionist". I thought both of them were great. "Little Miss Sunshine" is hilarious, especially when the little girl finally makes it to the child beauty contest. Next weekend "Hollywoodland" looks interesting. nmm
i saw The Road to Guantanamo and World Trade Center. World Trade Center was well done. You have a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach through out the movie because you know whats going to happen next. Sucky. Anywho, it was good. It wasnt an 'action' movie, it was drama about 4 NYC Policemen who get stuck under the WTC rubble. The Road to Guantanamo is about 4 Brits who travel to Pakistan to attend a friends wedding. They hear about the American invasion of Afghanistan, and go to help the refugees at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. The Northern Alliance captures the Aid Workers and hands them over to the US who abuse, interrogate, etc them until finally sending them to Cuba. Then they are abused some more, etc, until they are released. Definitely NOT a movie for die hard patriots who refuse to hear criticisms, or for TJones. Subdude
I saw both "Hollywoodland" and "Black Dahlia", for the full dose of LA Noir. I know "Hollywoodland" got the better reviews, but I thought "Black Dahlia" was a lot more interesting (although the plot is pretty convoluted). "Hollywoodland" would have been much improved by editing out the subplot and sticking with the main story about Superman's suicide.
Mark F. Barnes
Just saw "World's Fastest Indian" on PPV, best movie I have seen in some time. Sir Anthony Hopkins never fails to awe me with his performances!
Subdude
Just saw "All the Kings Men" with Hopkins, Sean Penn, and Jude Law. It's a pretty good movie. Penn seems to have a good time chewing up the scenery. Law and Kate Winslet didn't seem like particularly inspired casting choices however. Subdude
Has anyone else seen "Borat"? What did you think? Truly amazing that the unsuspecting people who acted like jerks in the movie are suing the film's producers for showing them acting like, well, jerks. Oh, and if you haven't already done so, go see "Casino Royale." Now.
bachanon
i saw casino royale thursday. awesome movie. can't wait to see borat. my nephew said it's hilarious, he's quoting things from the movie (much to the dismay of certain family members). something about finding some kind of ***** magnet and homemade cheese given to bob barr. Sebastian De La Ghetto!
I saw borat opening weekend, and laughed harder than i ever have in my life in a theatre. I missed some parts because people were howling. The funniest parts of the movie arent in the trailer. Keep an open mind. I need to watch it again, just to catch it all. Sebastian De La Ghetto!
The naked wrestling was disturbing, enough said. This thread is for Movie Recommendations, NOT spoilers.... Anyway, I watched DOA, (dead or alive) last night while my buddies and I played poker. It's definetly a guy flick, good action, laughable acting, and girls in bikini's fighting it out. KinkaidAlum
If you are over 18 (well, you probably need to be more mature than that), go see the Short Bus.What an exploration into human sexuality! infinite_jim
Anyone see Babel yet, they annouced the nominees for the Golden Globes and it got the most nods. saw babel, not my cup of teas , but it seems a bit formulaic (as "Traffic" and "Crash") check out "Stranger Than Fiction" if your looking for a date flick this winter (onthe same level of good writing as Charlie Kaufman)
Pumapayam
saw babel, not my cup of teas , but it seems a bit formulaic (as "Traffic" and "Crash") I did not care for Traffic, but loved Crash. So it is one of those ensemble cast movies where everyone interacts or crosses paths and affects each others destinies?
Subdude
I saw "Pan's Labyrinth" yesterday. It has received rave reviews. It is sort of a fairy tale for adults. I didn't quite know what to think. Violent in parts, and very emotionally intense and sad in parts. If nothing else, it leaves you thinking. houstonmacbro
I recently saw Dreamgirls at the Edwards Palace. Really good flick and Jennifer Hudson stole the show right from under Beyonce. Eddie Murphy was great and Jamie Fox did a pasable job. Also saw The Prestige at the dollar theater out here on 1960 @ Veterans. Not a bad movie --about two dueling magicians-- but the ending left me a bit confused.

I thought the acting was all top-notch, the production was great, and Beyonce was beautiful. My only complaint is that the music itself didn't sound quite Motown, so it didn't quite come off, at least to me. If you can check out The Lives of Others, currently at Greenway. It is a German movie about a Stasi agent in the 1980s and the couple he is spying on. Very engrossing and worth seeing.

Actually, lately, I have been renting a lot of movies (best way to catch up) on Netflix. Most of the stuff has been stuff I wanted to see at the movies, but wasn't 'must-see' (i.e. Babel). Recently, we've also been catching up on some classics (mostly Aldomovar) and other foreign fare.
