adr Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Know of any new projects happening on the Near Northside? Let's keep track of them here. Here is what I am following: 1) New Pegstar Music Venue2) Avenue Station Apartments3) 2223 North Main Renovation4) Hardy Rail Yards Know of anything else happening? Quote
BigFootsSocks Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 The body shop across 2223 North Main on just put up a for sale sign, so there's a good chance that will develop into something. It's crazy seeing this area have a sort of mini-boom Quote
Triton Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Add 3401 N Main near White Oak Music Hall. Rumored to be a hotel. 1 Quote
phillip_white Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I'm looking at getting place in the area and it's great that there's so much development going in. I don't mean to sidetrack the thread, but could one of you give some insight as to what's cool to check out (bars, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.) that's already existing? Quote
Triton Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 There's demolition going next to Jefferson David High School... is this part of an expansion or something? Quote

andre154 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Rode by Avenue Station yesterday. It's looking good. Brick is going up on the bottom floors. Looking forward to this being completed. Quote
andre154 Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) New stucco on 2211 North Main. Also, a new parking lot just behind it at Winnie and Keene Streets. Edited April 6, 2016 by andre154 1 Quote

andre154 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 The White Oak Trail connection behind the Castillo Center is getting started. Some excavation has taken place. It'll be a great connection for the neighborhood. I wish there were TIRZ money for some other connections around Hogan Street. http://houstonparksboard.org/projects/white_oak_bayou_greenway/ 4 Quote
cspwal Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Looks like a LaQuinta without the parking lot 1 Quote
Naviguessor Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 ...and with an oddly placed brick waistline. Looks like a high watermark after a flood of bricks. 6 Quote
andre154 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 This is just south of Lindale Park, and at the extreme northern side of the Near Northside... "Fulton Station" townhouses. 2 Quote
andre154 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 There is a Super Neighborhood 51 meeting tomorrow night, addressing a potential New Hope Housing development. The site is rumored to be located at 1515 North Main, directly across from the Burnett Transit Center and Hardy Yards. I want to say I had seen a rendering for apartments at this site from a while ago. (Does that ring a bell to anyone?! I've looked and can't find it...) I don't know if I saw them on here, or something in the UHDowntown plans. Either way, I think they were speculated to be student housing at one point. Quote

Yes, there's been a huge stir about this in the Northside because people are thinking this is a new homeless shelter, which I don't believe it is. Here's the rendering: 1 Quote
andre154 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 (edited) Thanks for that, Triton. Yes, our Nextdoor feed is off the rails already. I'm hoping to attend to provide some support for the project. Edited January 26, 2017 by andre154 2 Quote
andre154 Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 This proposal was not supported by the leaders of Super Neighborhood 51. New Hope Housing said that they do not want to build in areas that they're not made welcome, so unfortunately it doesn't look like this will be progressing any time soon. It's a shame, because affordable housing (not a shelter), is something the Near Northside could use. This site is also vacant and normally has trash on it. I am supportive of this project, and hope in the future it will be presented a bit sooner, and can have some more community input. 1 Quote
Naviguessor Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 That's eff'd up. Why don't that call it "housing that service employees may be able to afford"? Our just call in "Housing". Really short sighted on the part of the neighborhood. Quote
sara702 Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Does anyone know the history of this property or why Its being demoed? Apparently its called Element Materials Technology. http://swamplot.com/daily-demolition-report-broom-clean/2017-03-21/ https://www.google.com/maps/place/222+Cavalcade+St,+Houston,+TX+77009/@29.8024218,-95.3702543,794m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x8640b8ec6c850c91:0xb534a8d736d0a64d!8m2!3d29.802709!4d-95.369224 I was wondering if a new development is going in. Thanks! 2 Quote
AREJAY Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 That's Element's old facility, they moved out to 290 and the Beltway a couple of years ago and the land has been for sale since. They are an O&G / Aerospace material testing facility. Looks like the property is still for sale (the listing on loop net was just updated last week). My guess is they are demoing one or a few of the existing functionally obsolete buildings to make the property more marketable. http://www.loopnet.com/Listing/19484756/222-Cavalcade-Houston-TX/http://x.lnimg.com/attachments/30B5EBD3-4E50-46AC-8724-A9E0D9D37DB6.pdf 1 Quote
Houston19514 Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 This is the property for which there was a replat for a townhouse development. It is somewhere in another thread. I'll try to find it. 2 Quote

Ross Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 That area could use some new stuff. Hopefully without bankrupting my in-laws with higher taxes Quote
