HNathoo
Was there an announcement made, or a sign that went up?
Triton
Was there an announcement made, or a sign that went up?Announcement was made on their facebook page. But it now appears to be a combination of 3 retail stores on the first floor with multi-family on the second floor, according to building permits pulled. Does anyone have the link to the Chronicle's report on this development? We weren't able to find any info from Chronicle about this development.... Are you aware of any? Here's the Swamplot link from today: http://swamplot.com/the-new-east-downtown-bakery-building-going-up-behind-the-grb/2015-06-12/
Triton
Very interesting that the second floor is marked residential in building permits.

hindesky
Looks close to finishing the outside portion of the building. Weird brick design.
Texasota
Yeah that looks like they used somebody's leftover bricks, ran out completely, then resorted to EIFS.

Thats no brick design. Thats what happens when you don't properly estimate and then need to go to a hardware store and get extra material. Seems like they did the same with the burnished cmu block at the bottom. this is hilarious! 1 hour ago, Avossos said: I will be torn down for freeway expansion, don't y'all worry. This is what I don't understand! Its right in the path of the proposed freeway expansion/bury and in fact this part of the highway will be leaving from underground to above ground. Why are people still building here?

I think you answered your own question. Government money will pay for this property. brick design dosent matter. Only thing that matters is the building is done.

samagon
until they state says they can't build on the land, people will build on the land, and they'll get paid for it too. each building that goes up improves the land that much more, not just that property, but every property, which raises the price the state is going to have to pay for the 20 or so city blocks worth of land they are going to have to buy. this whole building looks a bit off. maybe they'll toss a few cans of krylon at it.

Completely missed the real estate angle in all this. Thats a great point! Probably why it looks so damn cheap. Its literally just to build up the value of the land even a little.
