Luminare
This is a very good project guys! The designers working on this have worked their tails off to even get it to this point. Right now it's nearing 100% CD's if I'm not mistaking. The head designer for it is very proud of it. Very contemporary and very sleek. The footprint is also very compact and efficient! In fact I see them in the small conference room working on some stuff right now lol. Maybe I can post some floor plans of it at some point.

Nate99
Who is paying for this? The reason I ask is that there have been a few high profile instances where universities have subsequently stopped taking funding from the Chinese government that was used to set up Confucius Institutes that were mouthpieces for the Chinese government's view on all things China. http://www.forbes.com/sites/eamonnfingleton/2014/09/26/chicago-u-hangs-tough-against-chinese-propaganda-agenda/ http://online.wsj.com/articles/penn-state-latest-school-to-drop-chinas-confucius-institute-1412196655

The money funding this project was from the 2012 HISD Bond if I remember correctly.
toxtethogrady
I'd be more concerned about the political agenda behind the proposed Saudi Consulate. That's an official government office. That said, I would not be surprised if the Chinese tossed in a gift just to have some say in the project.
Luminare
Ugh...now y'all are sounding like conspiracy theorists! This school existed long before. It's simply getting a new facility which is very much needed for the expanded curriculum and the addition of middle school students.
BigFootsSocks
Ummm...what political agenda? Ohhhh right Saudi--->Middle East--->Muslim-->terrorist
Nate99
The Saudi Consulate is manifestly there to promote the Saudi government's position, I can not think why anyone would expect otherwise. The Chinese have obscured their intentions behind big piles of cash thrust in front of schools in the past, and given what I would see as more pressing priorities to HISD than Mandarin language immersion, I had the thought that the funding might have come from somewhere else earmarked exclusively for the purpose. It will be hard to take any complaints of infrastructure shortcomings seriously when they can dedicate local educational funds to such a niche product. Same goes for football stadiums though, so I guess it is all up to HISD voters to determine the relative worth. Sorry for the derail.
Luminare
Well the money you are talking about came from a bond that was worth $2 BILLION DOLLARS! It was one of the largest bonds ever and it past! The money for this project is minuscule compared to the overall budget for this project. I mean HSPVA was part of that as well. That is also a niche school yet I don't hear anyone complaining about that one. HSPVA is a magnet school with an expanding curriculum and student body. Same thing. Magnet schools like this are great. They help diversify an otherwise dull education system.
