The local guy for Hostelling International USA Doug Markham indicated that Lovett Inn might remain a place to vote as a community service

I wouldn't be surprised. Hosteling International is a good organization. Been around forever, too. I've done a few of their events. Even my grandmother did stuff with them.

Hostelling International flew in a Director from their board to speak at the Avondale Civic---

Hostelling International USA would convert the 88-year-old Montrose bed and breakfast into low-cost lodging for out-of-town visitors.

It wasn't the Civic organization that seemed to have objections to variances but residents who lived close--- mostly these objections were about parking-- Now I have my own fear. . . . . . Would HI cut down those lovely old Oaks to obtain space for the additonal 4 parking places they need?

We appreciate the turnout for our booth at the Pride Festival last weekend, and will keep the neighborhood informed of the plans for the Grand Opening later this summer or early fall. We look forward to being an active part of the neighborhood.

Houston, we have a hostel!

HI-USA is counting down to the opening of the newest hostel in the network, in Houston. On June 15th, the sale of the historic Lovett Inn to Hostelling International was finalized. Keys were turned over to HI-USA representatives after a final walk through and transfer of funds. Renovation began the following day and this first class international hostel is expected to open in August.

The HI Houston Hostel will be named for Morty Rich, native Houstonian, world traveler, and volunteer leader who was active at all levels of HI-USA. Morty was a "true believer" in the values and goals of hostelling to make a difference in the world.Unfortunately, Morty died prematurely in a private plane crash. As a legacy to the organization he loved, Morty left a generous bequest to support the development of a hostel in Houston.

The initial bequest from Morty has been added to by the generous support of HI members and donors, and family and friends of Morty.
.
We hope to hear from you soon,

You mean the only other Hosteling International hostel. There are hostels in Houston, like the Friends House Hostel in the Sixth Ward.

Yes, you're right-----This is the Hostelling International brand -- they gave a slide show of some of the other locations-- many were historic building like the Lovett Inn--

about polling location one of the Hostel board members spoken to Avondale and said they would try to continue but weren't sure----

Keverry on Montrose LLC purchased a 5,447-square-foot building at 501 Lovett Blvd. from American Youth Hostels for a BORI restaurant, according to Davis Commercial. Hyon Sook Lee of the R. Alex Group represented the buyer. Mark Davis of Davis Commercial represented the seller. The building will be developed as the second location for BORI, a South Korean steakhouse at 1453 Witte Road in Spring Branch. Opening is planned in late spring of 2021.

dang...hate to hear that as i always thought it was so cool that Montrose had it's own Hostel! I am sure this year with basically NO travel at all, it was hard to run a business with no business (like most places...)

maybe another will open in Montrose as it is the perfect location for such a business (the next closest is one in the museum district)

For years this was used as my precinct voting hall. What little we could see it looked very nice. I also remember meeting several hostel clients at Griffs looking for some sporting events to watch. I also remember an Australian young man hook up with a young lady who seemed enthralled with his accent. 💓:P

According to "Houston Historical Retail" website the 501 Lovett in on the list for demolition. I guess I thought they were just going to renovate it for the Korean steakhouse not tear it down.

Says "Guest House Only" - Looking at photos, that seems like a newer addition in the back.
