Which Restaurants Do You Frequent?

Recommended Posts

Since we all lead very different lives, we probably don't all go to the same restaurants. So, here's a chance to see what others like. I'll start --

The Black Labrador - about twice a month

Old San Francisco Steakhouse - about every other month

Spaghetti Warehouse - about every other week

Denny's on the Southwest Freeway - about every other week

Bistro Lancaster - about every other month

The Italian joint over by South Texas College of Law - once a month

Starbucks - daily

Good question:

Shanghai River - 4 times a month (or more)

Bubba's Burger Shack - 2 a month

Jax's Grill - once a week.

Slainte' - once a month

BW3 (290 and Midtown) about 2 a month.

Chipotle (med center) 3 times a month...or so.

Burger King (various) 8 times a month

Various Mexican trailer food: 5-10 times a month

Jason's Deli, and a small deli near my home: almost daily.

Cool thread! I usually eat at home now, but I used to go out eat for every single meal. When I lived in Montrose I did:

Barnaby's on Fairview - 3-5 times a week, sometimes twice in one day :) It was right around the corner from my house.

Luby's - also usually about 3-4 times a week... God I love that place.

Bangkok Place on Westheimer - Used to do their lunch buffet once or twice a week.

Other than that I liked Cafe Express, Mission Burrito, The Brisket House (San Jacinto @ Pierece), Moveable Feast (when they had their lunch buffets), Subway, Boston Market, Niko Niko's, Mesa, 59 Diner, Black Eyed Pea, Hickory Hollow, Star Pizza (Heights location), Chuy's...

When I moved to Bellaire, the Jax Grill here became my new Barnaby's (3-5 times a week). I also like Thai Cottage a lot. We also have Charlie's BBQ and a Hickory Pit BBQ which are both really good.

Good replies. They helped jog a couple more from my memory:

Katz's - every other week.

Guggenheim's - every other week.

I never cared for Cafe Express, though. I really wanted to like it, and it seems like a good concept. But (IMHO) they take good food and try waaaay too hard to make it frou frou, ruining the flavor by doing too much to it.

Barnaby's on Fairview - 3-5 times a week, sometimes twice in one day :)   It was right around the corner from my house.

I have you beat. Once I ended up eating at Barnaby's three times on a Saturday (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). That's what I get for going out with two different groups of friends who all like the place in the same weekend, and then meeting someone for a first date that night who wanted to go there. I didn't have the heart to tell him no. At least I did hit two different Barnaby's locations (West Gray for breakfast and dinner, Fairview for lunch).

Besides Barnaby's, my other regulars include:

-Niko Niko's

-Chipotle (Woodway/Voss because it's close to work until I'm laid off in three weeks, and Med Center because it's close to home and METRORail)

-Mission Burritos

-Ming's Cafe

-Mai's

-Panera Bread (wish they would open one inside the loop but at least I don't have to go to the Midwest to eat there anymore)

-Starbucks

-Fadi's (Usually Westheimer, although the Meyerland location is closer to my new apartment)

-Tien Ren

-Chuy's

-Pappsito's

-Berryhill

-Cafe Express

-Jason's Deli

-Fu's Garden (Rice Village)

cleburne cafeteria (expensive but the best)

bibas ones-a-meal (west gray)

house of pies (kirby & westheimer)

jason's deli (downtown & galleria)

katz's (special occasion, teenage son crazy about cheesecake shake)

speghetti warehouse (often)

hobbit cafe

chuy's

mama's cafe

barry's and star (pizza)

arby's (shepherd)

kids used to love eating outdoors at bambolino's (but it looks closed down now)

used to like souper/salad but quality went down

also i admit to denny's (various locations, for convenience)

for reasons most unfortunate my primary places of eating away from home are in the medical center, at various clinics and hospitals with one of my sons. most people would probably be surprised at how vastly improved "hospital" food has become. hermann's grill makes a great gardenburger and the plate lunch food at md anderson is good old fashioned cooking. starbucks and smoothie king are also good options, as well as the mcdonalds in st. lukes.

between the dental college and md anderson there is an outdoor patio/cafe area with a waterwall just like the one at transco park. it's called the mcgovern food court or something, and if anyone can verify whether or not the same person designed the waterwall i would appreciate it.

Oh, I know, Deb.

The food variety has definately improved over the past few years.

another amazing thing is how the hospital food (what they feed patients) as well.

A well kept secret on one of the best and cheapest eats in town...sorta.

Harris County Jail (1301 Franklin) and The Harris County Jail in Humble.

Now before you think anything...I was working for them YEARS ago as a contractor.

If I remember correctly: Meals at 1301 Franklin was a Dollar in the basement (free upstairs) and Humble. they USED to make their own Cinnamon rolls up in Humble. Yumm..

Now I'm getting hungry. Time for a snack. :)

Paulies really cracks me up. The food is really good, and the prices are great, but it really draws the "Ladies who Lunch" crowd. Everytime I'm there it is chock full of these River Oaks gals opening gifts. They are like the women in "Paper City" magazine.:lol:

How about Jenny's Noodles over in Chinatown (the real one near downtown, not the one out southwest)? I used to go there all the time with a friend from work. Very cool. Good food. Jenny and her husband run the place and are more than happy to chat. She was a 20-something office worker at Continental who got fired when the economy tanked, so she started a noodle shop.

Wow. Applebee's. That brings back memories. I used to eat regularly at Applebee's #1 in Appleton, Wisconsin. That area is pretty restaurant-poor, so Applebee's was a pretty big deal.

After I left Wisconsin I didn't eat at another Applebee's for probably five years; I even heard that #1 burned down. Then about two years ago I was driving home from a particularly successful mission to Harrah's casino in Shreveport, and I found one -- in Lufkin, I think. I had to stop. Same food. Same service. Same layout. Same feeling. I guess that's why chains are successful -- people know what to expect, and very often that's a good thing.

Oh! and I meant to mention Chicken & Egg Roll...it's just south of Westheimer, on the west side of Shepherd. Utterly unpretentious (an increasingly valuable asset), 40's greasy spoon kind of place, and you can watch your food being cooked over a terrifying blast of flammable gas. Don't sit on the last stool to the right...it's unstable.
