I asked one of the workers and they said it was "for cell phones". I could see them going to smaller more distributed antennas and dismantling the microwave dishes on top of this building I've seen poles like that going up around the city. Triton
Does anyone know the history of this place? Is there like a building built on top of another building? Looks like the brick work changes on this place going up and doesn't match the rest.
cloud713
I noticed that too when I was passing by a week or two ago when the crane was there removing the antenna on the roof. Kind of like how the old Chronicle building had one segment built over the old theater.
ArchFan
I'm old enough (unfortuately ;-) to remember the original shorter building that had windows. I don't remember exactly when (probably late 60s or 70s), but they added a bunch of floors above, with fewer windows. Ross
Space was probably added to provide room for additional switches as the number of phone lines grew.
