Jax Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 When driving through midtown, I've noticed a bunch of development signs dated 2006, including a Fire Department museum and several mixed use developments, and some kind of plaza on Milam as well, I think. The signs say "coming in 2006" and it's currently 2007 so I was wondering... are these guys just late or have the projects been cancelled? It would be nice to see less empty lots in midtown. 1 Quote
what Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Anybody?it sure sounds like just more out of that bag of tricks that those urban-realtor-men use to try and create interest. my favorite though has to be the cute coming soon banners...i don't think anyone has told them that nobody believes them. 1 Quote
dbigtex56 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Anybody? So far as I know the Fire Museum is still a 'go' - they may still be doing fund raising prior to breaking ground. If you'd like to check with them, you can find contact info here. 1 Quote
Montrose1100 Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Ok, so I'm in Houston for Christmas vacation, and I'm driving down main to Hermann Park, and on the right I pass the exsisting Houston Fire Museum... but there is a big rendering on the grassy lot next to it. Anyone have any answers? 1 Quote
dbigtex56 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Merged with existing topic.Link to Houston Fire Museum website. The bronze fireman statue was erected several months ago. Looks like he's doing pilates. 1 Quote
Jax Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 That statue looks so lonely in that huge empty lot, and it's behind a fence too, right? 1 Quote
lockmat Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 (edited) Did they ever build this? I found some renderings... http://www.cbarch.co...ay/fire-museum/ Edited May 10, 2010 by lockmat 1 Quote
Jeebus Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 No, they have a new executive director who was the former director of the Denver firefighter museum. She's currently in the process of renovating the existing museum before starting on the new one. 2 Quote
j_cuevas713 Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 This building looks so much better with the natural brick restored. I'll try to take a pic today some time. 1 Quote
ChannelTwoNews Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 3219 Milam is currently the temporary home of the Fire Museum's offices and store per their website: https://www.houstonfiremuseum.org/  The renovations the the building that will house it, up the street at 2403 Milam are still ongoing. The goal is to reopen at that location some time in the fall.  Minus the fact this is in Midtown, not Downtown - this piece recaps what's going on. https://communityimpact.com/houston/heights-river-oaks-montrose/development/2023/04/04/historic-houston-fire-station-no-7-restoration-underway/ "These updates include life safety and upgrades to put the building in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It also involves an expansion to the museum's abilities for showcasing displays within the historic footprint of the firehouse, hosting events and parties, and meeting the minimum requirements for Houston ISD field trips." 4 Quote
Brooklyn173 Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 Between this and the relocated Printing Museum, maybe this part of Midtown is becoming Museum District Light 🙂 2 Quote

j_cuevas713 Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 (edited) I hope at some point all these 4 lane mini highways get some road diets. It would really help the pedestrian vibe of the neighborhood. Milam, Travis, Smith, Fannin, & Louisiana can all benefit. Edited January 20, 2024 by j_cuevas713 7 Quote

Their website says it's open by appointment only Tuesday-Thursday 10-5, and open Thursday 2-5, Friday & Saturday 11-5. So it's open for 15 hours a week. Quote
