  1. Denton was the one who told HiI it would announce on the 19th. The plate in my head told me a little bird told it that her sister's best friend's hair dresser's mother's dog told her horse's...WAIT!!!...hang on...OMG!!!!...my plate just told me the new da_____________
  2. I believe that is a development by the same group that was going to re-develope Hardy Yards.
  3. Realisticly: A large mixed-use development with bad copies of bad architecture. Lots of parking lots and box stores. More crap. Ideally: A park with LOTS of trees.
  4. Since there is going to be an underground garage, perhaps the focus should be on constructing those elements that don't require trees over the garage. A pond, restaurants, a band shell and/or a children's playground. It seems that would leave quite a bit of space for plenty of grass and live oaks. The published plans seem a bit too contrived and fixed. Large green open spaces with large trees combined with the above sounds appealing to me.
  5. Thanks for the info. I'll keep my eye out for it. Stay safe.
  6. Thanks Chad. But actually the way I would say "cooler"-which I don't see myself ever doing-would be to say something like "cooler". "krunker" just sounds sort of scatological to me. BTW: Great HBJ article!
  7. Here's the 2006 World Cup official ball: A little off-topic but I thought some of you soccer fans would like to see it. Maybe an inventive and imaginative architect could use it's design as inspiration? Kinda cool.
  8. The only thing consistent thing the Texans did today was lose. Congratulations. Now they have the choice of using their 1st rd. status to hang their future on one player or trade it away and begin building a real team with good picks. In addition a new coach and QB could only be a plus. I'm consistently supportive of our perennially choaking sports teams [with the rare exceptions of the Rockets and Astros] and my patience is holding strong...but for how long....?
  9. Well, I'm sorry TJ, but I'm going to have to agree with you again. I am so tiered of hearing everyone trying to fix this old broken horse. Out on the ranch you'd just shoot the poor thing and move on. Sure Carr is pretty. You know where pretty gets you? Stinkin' nowhere in the end-no pun there. My GOD! You just can't know how frustrated a native Houstonian can get with such a losing NFL franchise. First the Oilers and now...THIS! Kill me. NOW! Please. Just tell me how much you want then kill me. And BTW, TJ...why are you up so late?????
  10. MAN!!! If I could get Ty Pennington to go around me with a megaphone... I'd be one happy guy!
  11. I would LOVE to be in the position to take the best player available-if we didn't already have such a miserable record with the players we already have taken. I'd drop to my knees for Reggie if I thought it would do any good [and get your mind out of the gutter right now, because I know you, Red! ] But we DO have a miserable record so now's the time to roll the dice-there's nothing left to lose. And UT???? I hate to be Owlish on you, but...
  12. "PLANETS COLLIDE!!! TJONES NMAINGUY JOINED AT THE HIP!!!! FILM AT 11" Damn! I knew it was bound to happen. TJ and I agree about something 100% after all! Nice to see a Conservative finally bowing to the wisdom of a Liberal!!! ( I wish I could quit you, TJ) Seriously; what TJ said: use the 1st pick or trade it for more...I'd go for trading it but either way but I bow to TJ's wisdom on this one. See? Gay guys DO have a clue!!!
  13. I think improvements at any major intersection involving pedestrians and vehicular traffic is a great idea for a city like Houston which for too has long ignored these areas. However, Main/Fannin at Holcombe is not the gateway to the TMC. It's smack in the middle. A crossroads maybe-but not a gateway. Main/Fannin at Outerbelt-that's a gateway. Maybe we should call it the Crossroads at Holcombe. Try more pedestrian/traffic separation. Maybe a monumental fountain on an axis with the Mecom [a fountain freak here!]. Anyway, my 0.02 for what it's worth. Happy Haify New Year!!! [hope that didn't offend any PCer's ]
  14. Delmar is very centrally located at the intersection of 290 and 610. It's a HUGE chunk of land even with the new HISD HQ.
  15. The Delmar site looks like a fantastic location-logistics wise-for a soccer stadium. Access from I610 and 290; acres of room; the possible teaming with HISD. As far as type...it would be fantastic to have a Calatrava design in such a visible locale. PS. Let's keep it in Houston. We should'nt go the Irving Cowboys or Arlington Rangers route when there is so much possibility to keep it local.
  16. I think people were stunned and curious at the time but once they stepped inside, all that melted away. It was-and still is-just a fantastic way to display art of all types and sizes. People latched onto it almost immediatly and have loved it ever since.
  17. It was the only thing I could think of since you were attempting a lame tease. Which you were and which it was. Not funny.
  18. Architect's fees are often only a small percentage of the total construction cost. The Main St. property north of First Pres is quite large. The original William Ward Watkin building is distinctly opposed to the 2 Mies additions. Likewise, the Mies additions are wildly different from the Moneo. If you weren't familiar with the MFA and stood back and looked at the 2 you would have no idea they are related. This is a great chance to have the best without the constraints of site and provenceal attitudes. When both Mies were constructed, they were seen as radical-I'm old enough to remember-unfortunatly ].
