  1. While I completely agree with your assertion that popular movies and popular music are mostly worthless; I must ask, what is popular sex? And how can such a a thing be worthless?
  2. The lamentable unintentional question mark belies my avarice for "urban ontogenesis", if you will. “I took a test in Existentialism. I left all the answers blank and got 100.” ― Woody Allen
  3. WOW! Putting them all together like that really brings home how many great projects are happening right now! It's a great time to be a Houston architecture and development fanboy?
  4. This weeks Bizarre Foods America with Andrew Zimmer was all about Houston. It was a great episode and really showed some of the variety of foods in Houston.
  5. I drive by this site daily it looks like this project has begun. There are materials, equipment, and crews on site.
  6. Has this development started going up yet or are they still doing site work?
  7. I really like the way this tower looks. Should be a great addition to the uptown skyline.
  8. It's great to see new dining options come to the area. Hopefully we continue to get more.
  9. WOB was packed when I went Friday night. Luckily they have a large outdoor patio area because the bar itself is kind of small. They had a band and even though it was busy they had good service. They have an almost overwhelming beer selection. I stopped trying to pick my own and just asked the waitress to "bring me something new". Overall a great addition to the area for beer lovers (they don't offer spirits) and I'm sure I'll being going back again. I live nearby and would be willing to have a meetup there sometime in the future if anyone would be interested. It would definitely take a bit more forethought than I tried to get away with Friday. :-)
  10. I'm thinking of going and checking out World of Beer tonight around 8 or 9 pm. If anyone is interested. I know it's last minute but I just decided to do it. :-)
  11. Reposted from my response to another post in the Grand Texas Theme Park thread. I spent several years living overseas and when I would tell people I am from Chicago they often would have never heard of it. In general people had heard of New York (for obvious reasons), California (Hollywood), and Texas (Cowboys, country music, etc...) One of the major reasons I chose to move here was due to the culture. Texas has a wonderful and unique culture that is distinctly Texan. Rugged individualism, patriotism, pride of place, heritage, friendliness, and of course all of the cultural stereotypes. Maybe it's something many native Texans can't see because they're so used to it but many states don't have this. Honestly, what is Illinois' culture other than thinking of Chicago, or Iowa or Indiana or many other states. I read comments on this site all of the time and hear them in passing where people complain of Texas culture, show disdain for it, or want it to change or go away. I don't understand this sentiment. Culture is what makes so many things in life unique and special. We live in an era of multiculturalism and it's often stated on this site how great it is that so many people from other countries live in Houston and bring a small part of their culture with them. Why doesn't that apply to the local culture? Why do so many say that "other" culture is good but Texas culture is bad? Trebelino, what good is cosmopolitanism or internationalism without the individual parts that make up those concepts (read: cultures). I'm not trying to attack you or argue with you, I just truly don't understand the double standard and I'm not just referring to you. This might be a good idea for a new thread maybe I'll repost this somewhere else.

  13. 28 Days Later was a great movie but my personal favorite zombie flick is Sean of the Dean. It's hilarious! I thought Henry Cavill was a fantastic Superman in Man of Steel but the story felt unimportant to me. It seemed more like it was just a setup for a series of sequels (of which I look forward to). Interesting note about District 9 is that it was originally going to be the film adaptation of the video game Halo but Microsoft pulled the plug. Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp went ahead and made a sci-fi flick anyways since they were into pre-production anyways. Montrose, I want to see the Conjuring for the exact same reason you do. Paranormal Activity is the only film to scare me since I was a child. There's something about showing me less in a horror film that makes it scarier. I think my imagination is better than any foam or cg monster! :-)
  14. Great news!!! Should be a great addition to the skyline from the west and south!
  15. With all of the excitement brewing on HAIF about all of the new residential coming to Downtown, I'm curious. Is anyone on here, who doesn't currently live in Downtown, seriously planning on moving to downtown as these new units come online? This crowd certainly seems to be the target market.
  16. Greenville, SC has an interesting Hampton Inn. Although it's not an iconic highrise so I'll probably get berated for saying that. http://lodging.uptake.com/blog/hampton-inn-and-suites-downtown-greenville-greenville-south-carolina.html Couldn't resist :-)
  17. I must've missed the memo. My wife and I are in our 20's and we just bought a house in Cinco. I await the coming wave of poverty that Slick, in his infinite wisdom, assures us is headed for the burbs. and by the way... What does claiming to know two pro pugilists have to do with disseminating propaganda that supports your fascist liberal agenda?
  18. What's up with the Weed World truck? Seriously...it says "we deliver"! How can that be a thing? :-D
  19. I can't believe I found a thread for this topic. I've been hearing this same noise the last few nights and was wondering what kind of critter it is. Like the OP I also live in Westchase, so I guess we have a chirping frog infestation over here! :-)
  20. Certainly seems like a prime location. Plus with all of the growth in the area I would think something will be built here eventually. I hope it's more of a destination type development like the rendering as opposed to more big box stores, chain restaurants, and parking. Not that I'm against any of those things, I just like variety. :-)
  21. It's been on Google Maps satellite view for at least a year.
  22. I've been wondering what that ring was for. Hope this comes to fruition.
