  1. I had been seeing these for about 2 weeks now. It's right across the freeway from me. By the time I get home everyday, I've either forgotten to bring it up, or was too tired to look it up. Thanks for posting it! And that project list shows a lot of work around Houston. That's definitely encouraging.
  2. Seeing as traffic is an absolute nightmare for downtown, I'd go with the suburban campus myself. Interesting city life isn't something people consider for their jobs. Nobody is going to put in 8 hours at work, then spontaneously think "you know, I'd like to see a basketball game." If I lived near a suburban campus and worked there, I'd have a short commute, and could still go downtown on weekends and holidays if I so desired.
  3. Actually, it's going to be a landscaped park, if I understand correctly. They are going to be using the existing underground parking that the hotel had. Given how gravity works, if they had someone with really good aim, they could've done that this whole time.
  4. So if the headquarters are not moving, what exactly is the new campus for?
  5. Full sentences with enough details to know what exactly you're talking about would be kinda nice.
  6. I'm not saying exactly like that. It was an example. I just mean that that would look better than the rigid block design they look like they are going to do.
  7. So much for the May groundbreaking. As of this evening, nothing new is happening on the site.
  8. I guess we'll see what part of the stadium parking lot is going to be lost for the next school year next week then. So it won't be Robertson Stadium anymore? I've always thought that school stadiums that have corporate names just seemed cheap. I'm going to be on campus in the next few weeks, I'll bring my camera along and grab some pictures of everything that's happening.
  9. Frankly I wish they go with a more modern design for the clocktower (and the other new buildings on campus, for that matter), but I'll take development of bland buildings over no development any day. I'm sure they are going for a timeless look that will still be appreciated 50 years from now. Really, I wish they could do some kind of smooth, curving design for the clock tower, like a miniature version of the Shanghai Tower. That would look fantastic.
  10. I was on campus yesterday and saw a lot of work going on. The Optometry building in the southwest corner of campus is already up to the second story, the Fleming lab building is almost entirely finished, and there is a new building going up next the Melcher school. They were just putting up the second story of the steel frame. It's the large building in the top-right corner of this picture: (I took this picture of almost a year ago in Melcher Hall with my non-smart phone, so excuse the quality). And the most exciting of all for me, is that they have torn up that whole area along Wheeler that was cleared for the light rail, and have dug it down 2-3 feet. And sitting in the middle of it was a stack of rails! I was worried that they were going to clear the area and then leave it empty for years like the Astroworld site.
  11. Your cousins may not have complained, by my fiancée and the several friends I have who went there have complained to me about it. Everything that I've been told is that the Jones kids never liked the Carnegie kids, and the kids from each school never really got along. That's arbitrary speculation. In three years, there MAY be an influx of applicants from 4th Ward, for all we know. Both of our statements are irrelevant to the construction of this school.
  12. Dude, hcbu, seriously why are you so opposed to Carnegie? Why do you think that this school being built will somehow destroy this neighborhood?
  13. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Why do you think they have to move? No one is being forced out of their homes.
  14. I've never seen it get to the point where it was difficult to find parking on the second level. Even on a Saturday night I've never needed to go up to the third level to park.
  15. What are you talking about? No one is being run off by this project. You seem to have this odd idea that if this school is built, everyone who lives there will be forced to leave. And as far as retaining the history, the Settegast Building is being renovated because of this project. That's retaining history. It probably would've been just as easy for them to demolish the building. Carnegie started as part of Jones, and they are their own school. No one associated with Carnegie is willing to give up being their own school to go back to just being part of another school again.
  16. What are you even talking about? How does that relate to this situation? You are saying that an attractive school being built on an empty lot is going to somehow destroy this neighborhood. That makes no sense at all.
  17. That's a rather contrived and not at all logical slippery slope scenario.
  18. I love to see anything new downtown that isn't concrete. I was just reading through the old posts on this thread and realized something: Was this rendering made in Sim City 4?
  19. Across from which restaurant? Next time you drive by, take a picture. I didn't see anything when I went by, and the google maps satellite view is showing all of the buildings on the site intact, and those pictures were taken in the past few months. If a new garage sprung up, I would think that the construction at least would be visible.
  20. The guy I talked to seemed to know a lot about the project, and the person at the front desk directed me to him as someone who could answer pretty much any question I had. One thing I forgot to mention is that he said that Hines was going to be building one of the towers. He pointed to the hotel on the rendering on the wall, but I think, given the context of the conversation, that he meant the residential tower. I think he was caught a little off guard that someone had walked in off the street and was really excited about information about the project. I got the feeling that they had no idea that anyone other than them even cared that this is being built. I'm probably going to go back some time next week to get some clarification on all of this. If you guys have any questions for them, let me know and I'll ask them. I was too giddy and excited that they were willing to dump information on me so readily that I forgot a lot of the specific questions I had. I honestly went over there expecting them to tell me that they couldn't give out any information or something like that.
