  1. Ad campaigns saying "Don't give money to street corner beggars" and "street corner beggars are total drug abusing, wino jerks" are the right way to go.
  2. India's national official languages are Hindi and English, and it has countless regional languages as well.
  3. Houston ISD is losing students (gentrification) and has so much money that it is or is close to being a Robin Hood state (I'm not sure which this year) - Maybe if CFISD and HISD agree to transfer the part of the City of Houston in CFISD to HISD (has three elementary schools and a middle school), it could allow HISD to gain some students, and it could allow CFISD to focus more attention on what is left.
  4. It takes a lot more effort and intrusion to prove that someone is illegal than to simply force a blood test which will easily conclude whether someone is drunk or not.
  5. 1. What Snopes disputes is the idea that Michael Jackson contributed nothing to society except for his artwork; Snopes quoted a Los Angeles Times article that describes some of his pilantrophic deeds. 2. If you mean years later from the date OJ got a criminal trial acquittal... He was found guilty in 2008. OJ's acquittal came in 1995. If anything this shows how stupid OJ is; he could have remained free, but he continued making bad choices and got caught.
  6. Accoridng to Snopes the e-mail has a mixture of true and false information: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/charity/jackson.asp Did they speak about when OJ got sentenced for his other crime? Lemme see if the Browns or Goldmans said anything... EDIT: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=bryant_howard&id=3748000 ""It was satisfying to know that S.O.B. will be in jail. It was satisfying to see him in shackles, the way he belongs," Fred Goldman said. "He still had that arrogant look on his face when he came in and that same look when he left. He committed a crime and he's going to be where he belongs, with others of his kind." "
  7. California is now facing a budget crisis. Wouldn't the state have made some more money if gay marriage remained to be allowed (costs associated with being married)?
  8. Htown: North Korea has money, it's just that Kim Jong-il chooses to spend it on his military and his extravagant luxuries.
  9. But by government is this the federal government, or the state governments, or both? We need to qualify what we mean by "government health care"? Which governments, and how? When referring to Canada's health care, everyone should understand that each province has its own health care system; it would be like if Texas had its health care system, while Hawaii had its system, etc. See: http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/canada.asp - So when one talks about Canada health care, he or she needs to clarify. Should states adopt the system from Ontario but avoid the system from Nova Scotia?
  10. And the site is blocked from web.archive.org with robots.txt, so we can't see what it used to be like. Shame on the webmaster for doing that.
  11. Also there are parts of Texas City in the La Marque school district.
  12. Maybe in the rest of the country, soccer isn't relevant - But Houston is part of the exception due to the high Latin American expat population.
  13. I like the business-like, clean paint scheme for CO's regular aircraft, but I also like the retro scheme too. This is a special scheme for that particular aircraft. If only CO could revive the Robert F. Six special livery too. Perhaps CO should also have a special "Texas" and a special "New York" livery for two lucky 737s. I think the special "retro" schemes for Continental and Air France look great on the twinjets. Of course, I would like for CO to also have an optional uniform for female flight attendants that would look very sixties-ish.
  14. Well, Bridgeland makes sense for people who work in far west or far northwest Harris County - But for people working in central Houston I don't see how Bridgeland makes sense (unless they want a long commute).
  15. That happens from time to time - middle aged men can get heart attacks or strokes (even men who have to pass physicals every six months, such as airline pilots). This is why we always have at least two pilots. This flight had two first officers and a reserve pilot, so there was no danger to the passengers and crew.
  16. 1. What rights do you feel that city governments are taking away? "Rights" would be, according to Merriam-Webster 2a "the power or privilege to which one is justly entitled" - http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/rights 2. In the 1930s rural areas were major supporters of several of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Great Depression programs, such as the Rural Electrification Program. 3. There are some Blacks who voted on Obama for race alone, but I think many voted for him because he was in the Democratic Party, and many African-Americans do not trust the Republican Party. As noted above many Black people supported Clinton instead of Obama.

    Spam PMs

It's not just spam from Africa - it's a come on for the 419 scheme. Snopes writes about 419 here: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/nigeria.asp
  18. Austin's light rail is scheduled to begin sometime this year; it was delayed for several months.
  19. I would imagine many of them will go in either unincorporated Brazoria, unincorporated Fort Bend, unincorporated Harris, or in Houston, near Pearland. AFAIK Pearland's zoning restricts the amount of space that multi-family housing can use. Look at the zoning map here: http://gisweb2.ci.pearland.tx.us/mox52/pla...x52_if_frameset
  20. Jedijake, are you meaning every school in the district would do year round school? AFAIK only a portion of the schools in a given district do year round school - i.e. in LAUSD only some schools do year round, and that is decreasing as new schools open.
  21. Which parts of CFISD would benefit from year round schooling? For a long time many Los Angeles USD schools had year round schooling. After an aggressive bond program, many of the year round schools are converting to traditional calendar schools once reliever schools open.
  22. I think what he meant by "Houston" was "Houston ISD" Likewise what is meant by "Katy" here is "Katy ISD." In terms of the actual City of Katy, the only comprehensive high school (Katy HS) in the city is on the list.
  23. The Brazilian search crews have discovered deceased passengers and the tail fin of the aircraft: http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/06/...rash/index.html
