  1. Which airline? Your pilot had a good sense of humor
  2. Well, what I am saying is: was the SCR area always under control of Alvin ISD? I know that it is in Alvin ISD (what I told others), but did a land swap take place? What I am asking is: Was Alvin ISD always in control of the area? Or did it swap land with another district?
  3. When did that happen? Why? Is there a news site that documents this?
  4. Send a letter too - It's more formal and sounds more serious
  5. Actually HISD still has attendance zones, but it ALSO has a choice system in place.
  6. He focused on Golf and Soccer, though. This is explained in this Houston Press article: http://www.houstonpress.com/2003-11-13/news/tee-time/

  8. Continental does NOT operate a nonstop (there may be a "direct" IAH-EWR-FRA - But that is not the same thing) - Lufthansa operates nonstop IAH-FRA.
  9. CO already flies IAH - Sao Paulo GRU - Rio de Janeiro [acronym="Gale
  10. IMO CO should also consider serving from Houston: * Frankfurt, Germany * Lagos, Nigeria * Johannesburg, South Africa * Seoul/Incheon, South Korea * Hong Kong I'm not sure how likely Sydney is, but IMO Sydney would be a good destination sometime in the future.
  11. Spring Branch School of Choice is the magnet school.
  12. As I said, people should bring cameras and/or cell phone cameras. This stuff will be comedy gold if uploaded to YouTube.
  13. It was later revealed that Newton is NOT homeless. The cops found his address: http://www.examinernews.com/articles/2007/...news/news01.txt I also found some addresses belonging to Larry Paul Newton on Zabasearch (the birth date, 1959, matched 2007 as 38+1959=2007).
  14. Oh, there is a debate in this forum over whether Newton was homeless, as some news organizations (not all of them) removed references to his status as a homeless man: http://www.bloghouston.net/item/6002
  15. As I asked in another thread, I wonder if the Newton incident will give fuel to Midtown's pleas for reducing homelessness.
  16. River Oaks ES was fenced some time ago... I remember when it wasn't fenced. EDIT: Isaiah Carey made a blog about the Newton attack: http://carey2.blogspot.com/2007/11/should-...to-address.html
  17. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=...&id=5756614 Larry Paul Newton, a mentally ill homeless man, attacked a girl named Catherine Sullivan at Lamar High School's front lawn. Sullivan survived the attack, and Newton was arrested. Sullivan had stitches after the attack. Will this lead to controls on homeless?
  18. This house is zoned to, in Houston ISD: * Milne ES * Welch MS * Sharpstown HS
  19. Lemme look it up and see if I can get a juicy story... EDIT: I found "The chained lion at the Texas Flea Market had previously mauled a set of 2-year-old twins and was severely underfed when it penetrated an 8-year-old girl's skull with its fangs in 1987." at http://www.tpj.org/page_view.jsp?pageid=79&pubid=22 - Now I'm looking for the story on the Chronicle... EDIT: here's more from the Chron: http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=1989_593993 " Gary Durkovitz, 35, styled himself as "the beastmaster" because he owned a scraggly, malnourished lion that he displayed publicly. Back in the fall of 1987, that lion had seized and severely injured an 8-year-old girl at a Houston flea market. The lion was shot during the attack, then later destroyed by a fatal injection. Because of the publicity surrounding his case, Durkovitz's trial on a charge of injury to a child was moved to San Antonio. A jury there in April convicted him and gave him 10 years probation and a $5,000 fine. A month later back in Houston, he pleaded guilty in an unrelated child molestation case and got five years in prison. Houston furniture king Jim "Mac" McIngvale was a principal owner of the now defunct flea market where the attack occurred. He pleaded no contest to injuring a child. As punishment, District Judge Ted Poe ordered the businessman, best known for his furniture commercials on television, to make a series of commercials on the subject of child abuse. " EDIT: 8-year old Roxanne Hernandez was the victim - It seems like she survived the incident: http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=1988_545397
  20. Until editor adds that, you should find an emoticon under the influence of Mary Jane, upload it to Photobucket, and then use it as an emoticon image on the forum It would be funny if a family moved into that house - Anyway, even though many central Houston areas do not appeal to families, I add the info if it is not already on HAR, just in case a family wants to move in...
  21. The Houston Architectural Guide does not have its website. You may find the book on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Houston-Architectura...s/dp/0917001087

  23. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=...&id=5743715 Sheila Jackson Lee is now telling HISD that it should bulldoze the old Key building and build a new one. For some reason I knew she was going to say that.
