  1. It is hit or miss. The closer you can get to Beltway 8 the better though.
  2. That is the same question I asked above. No one knows, this is somewhat of a mystery now.
  3. Well people need a reason to stay downtown. Most people just go to work in their office building, file out for lunch, and go home. If home was downtown (which it is for a small percentage of people) then retail would thrive if that number increased. But we need something to move people around and add the convienience of a local store within walking distance. The only thing around there is a Randall's in Midtown. You need ammenities to attract more people to move there. It is the people who live in downtown that should support the bulk of the retail. The rest just hit the restaurants and clubs and treat downtown more as a novelty.
  4. Install more mass transit #1 Have an actual grocery store that is pedestrian friendly #2 then people have a reason to move downtown because they can buy food Build more highrise and midrise condos and apartments #3 then more people will be around at all hours Build sidewalk markets like fruit stands and flowers #4 Extend shopping hours past 6 like until 10 p.m. or 12 a.m. #5
  5. I can't say what Randall's plans are. This was the original list for Randall's closures 13350 Jones Road 7320 Antoine 12555 Westheimer 6805 Highway 6 South 11021 Fuqua 7098 Bissonnet 1302 Blalock Dr. 4880 Louetta 1306 W. Davis 13140 Louetta 3126 FM 528, in Webster 570 El Dorado Blvd., in Webster 4610 Highway 6 South, in Sugar Land 4802 Fairmont Parkway, in Pasadena 2800 E. Broadway, in Pearland
  6. No way, rich people don't care about prices, they like Randall's because they can avoid shopping without seeing ethic and black people. It will never shut down.
  7. Town and Country Mall was almost engulfed by Dillards, especially in the 3rd floor! (btw I miss "12 and Under" in that mall!)
  8. I dunno, I think a year is long enough. They should really scope out the neighborhood for capacity before the under-build. It is always cheaper to build a school right the first time, than save money on the short term only to spend more of it later when cost of materials and labor goes up.
  9. The whole point of T-buildings, or Temporaries, is that they are just supposed to be temporary, until it is justified to build an expansion of the original building. They should have never let it get that bad.
  10. Maybe you should have asked a focused question. After reading your post, someone lightly scanning it would think you are simply making a statement instead of submitting questions. Just a thought. I think you are asking, other the ones you mentioned, "What/where are other science and engineering firms localized in Houston?" I must say it may be harder to get a lively conversation from this, as your audience who has interest in this may be limited.
  11. Sea-rama building demo'd for an RV park. That sucks! It's working for Moody Gardens now. I think people go, just not every weekend, but at least once or tiwce a year, especially to entertain friends and relatives who visit Houston. We don't have very many attractions that are unique here.
  12. That is a whole lot of rambling in a topic that is supposed to be about the History of Houston. How did the topic of WWII get involved in this thread?
  13. It has been posted already here. Someone asked about history books that talked about Houston and this website was shared as an alternative to the book, but the topic is close enough. I went ahead and reported this thread to the moderator to be merged with it, don't get mad now. Just want to keep repeat threads of the forum. Have a good one!
  14. But you would think after 25 years and the huge surrounding area population that it would have had an established clientel. I know with the oil bust that the Houston population was stagnant, but still, we have plenty of peeps here. There must have been some crazy increase in operating cost, or mismanagment of funds, or lack of maintenance. The first pyramid in Moody Gardens did not operate until 1993.
  15. I never knew it existed, what caused it's demise in 1990 that forced it to shut down?
  16. How is that on topic. This thread is about a model building on Craigslist, not the western expansion of Houston!
  17. Yay! False alarm people, nothing to see here, everyone can go home now!
  18. With all the new condos coming up around that lot, something will have to show up, a typical strip center won't cut it for long. I am crossing my fingers too.
  19. It is the lot hugged between the Empire, Nordstroms Garage, Williams Tower Parking Garage, and the Water Wall.
  20. To answer the question people had about Galleria 5, it is the site that formally held Lord and Taylor. And as a side note, the "old" MACY's is now known as MACY's at SAGE and the former FOLEY's one is called MACY's
  21. So does anyone know if the above question I asked was a debris fence or a new project?
  22. They better get some good photos of the city hall, because once the condo tower is built, the view will be blocked.
  23. So does anyone know what is going up, I saw the fence, but I am thinking more and more it could just be a debris fence for the work going on at the Empire, since it is only on the Hildago side of the street and does not emcompass the entire perimeter of the property.
