  1. (Record currently held by Mark Brunell of the Washington Redskins against the Texans defense just earlier this season, by the way)
  2. Man, the Rockets gave the Bobcats a beating tonight! 92-62! The lowest points allowed in Rockets history! And that's a week after holding Cleveland back to 63 the night McGrady had a concussion. Good grief!! http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/6254352 From Charlotte's Adam Morrison: "That's the worst game I've ever played in my life," said Morrison, who in the past three games has eight points on 3-of-26 shooting. "It's difficult when the fans want me to shoot 23-footers with a guy in my face.
  3. I've actually seen Kamala on tv a few times to this day I've also heard that the Bushwhackers own a restaurant in Florida, but I'm not sure if it's true or not.
  4. My example is the lack of big deals. With the exception of resignings, since Purpura has been GM, we've signed four supposed big ones...Aubrey Huff (From Tampa Bay: now on free agency and waiting to be resigned), Preston Wilson (let go by the Astros and helped our arch-rival Cardinals win the World Series), and Carlos Lee/Woody Williams (we don't know how they'll do with the Astros yet so I won't judge). So prior to this offseason, he's made one good sign, and he may leave the Astros after his first season here? If we had the same team we had last season, resigned all our free-agents, and only signed Lee and Williams, that alone could be a rotation offensive and defensively more powerful than any team in MLB. Obviously that won't happen now with Petitte leaving. Here's the bright side though: All is not lost for Purpura this offseason. Clements, Jeff Suppan, Barry Zito, and Jeff Weaver are starting pitcher free-agents available without a trade. Signing any of them would show that Purpura and McClain are serious about wanting a strong pitching rotation. Also, decide the third base thing quick. I think Huff will be a solid offensive man in the coming years. Ensberg has shown promise and is a former All-Star. Whatever you do, if you decided to trade Ensberg, it better be for another All-Star caliber dude, and DON'T to it before signing Huff.
  5. Where does Houston benefit in the deal where Woodlands doesn't become a part of it? I understand the Woodlands standpoint, but why would Houston want Clear Lake and Kingwood more than Woodlands?
  6. I disagree. Purpura's to blame. I bet U if Hutsinger were still GM, Pettite would have signed with the 'Stros for $14 million. They seem to have a negotiation problem. All these big stars during the offseason say the same thing: Houston is an attractive place to play because of the fans, salary offers, and the stadium is hitter-friendly, but never seem to get it done when it comes to offering options and no-trade clauses. I'm sure McLane had no problem offering $14 Million for Petitte, especially knowing that the chances for resigning Clements was higher. Purura's problem is that when there's a good deal accepted, he tries to make it an even better deal and get more out of it for the 'Stros, and as a result, the good deals pass him by.
  7. I agree. Also, if this news is true, expect a major trade by the Astros for another star pitcher...which means giving up valuable talent. What other free agent star pitchers are left on the market? And when will the Astros start looking at Japan's star pitchers? That's where we really need to go. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4389076.html Here's the Chronicle article. Listen to what Pettitte's agent said...
  8. ESPN has just announced breaking news that Andy Pettitte has just signed with the New York Yankees
  9. Where did all this funding for going to the moon come from. I thought they faked that decades ago
  10. The only gated community I know of in Houston at that price range is one going up directly across the street from Elsik High School. (130 and above). Royal Oaks now has a starting price of 450k. I know quite a few celebs that live there, like some of the Rockets, and some of the local news and radio anchors here. Seabrook probably has some in that price range as well. If U ever went on the north side, Cy-World also has EXCELLENT gated community home deals at that range. That's probably where you get the best for your money in Houston.
  11. As a Houstonian, annexing Woodlands would be nothing but a major pro. It's an upper-class population of 85,000 added to our tax base, not to mention their business boom. It'd mean much-needed revenue coming to a city that just passed eight bonds this past November, still paying off it's stadiums (including the Astrodome), and would love to take some of the future tax burdens off taxpayers already in Houston. If Houston had it's way, more new residents within Houston would be upper-middle class at least. In the point of view of someone in the Woodlands, they would have major pros, and major cons. Pros: They would recieve all the amenities Houstonians recieve with public transportation, public servicies, etc. Cons: They would have to pay the same amount of taxes as other Houstonians. Plus, they wouldn't have power and control over themselves anymore; they'd have downtown Houston for it's City Hall. That would mean less funds going directly to them and going to the big city as a whole, while at the same time paying more taxes.
  12. I understand The Woodland's point of view with this deal. I could understand why they'd wanna pull off a Kingwood and start whining about not wanting to become part of the big city. But I don't understand Houston's part of the deal. I would imagine Woodlands being the first place Houston would want to annex if given a choice. The land value is high, the population is huge for a Houston-area suburb (85,000), and the tax revenue to go with the higher-income residents would have been WAY higher than the amount recieved from this deal. Knowing all that, what are the odds now that more higher-income Houstonians could jump ship to Woodlands. Where's the benefit on Houston's side? Not saying we should force Woodlands to become a part of Houston, but I don't understand what Mayor White's trying to accomplish there. Why Kingwood and not Woodlands?
  13. If U were looking for any in the Houston Area, Royal Oaks in Alief is pretty nice, yo

  15. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...971&cc=5901 Right after FoxSports reports the guaranteed signing of Klinsmann, ESPN reports that Klinsmann withdrew his name from consideration earlier today for reasons unknown. What's not known is if it's true, or if it's a negotiating ploy. What is speculated is that the issue isn't money, but authority in U.S. sports. The man led Germany to 3rd place in the World Cup. Give the man all the authority he wants!!! If the story is true, it'd be a MAJOR blow to American sports. He would have been the first former World Cup champion to coach our country. What's America's plan-B?
  16. From the Chicago Tribune: Taveras, who turns 25 on Dec. 25, is one of the fastest players in baseball. He stole 33 bases, had a 30-game hitting streak and batted .278 last season. The kid has potential. Like I said before, his 30-game hitting streak shows that. All he needs is more coaching and hitting practice so he could be consistant throughout next season. I don't think we've had a player as fast as him since Kenny Lofton. Biggest thing we could use from him is his speed. Can't think of any other Astro who has his speed to steal bases. I also heard a rumor that we were pursuing Peavy from the San Diego Padres. Is the Astros top priority resigning Pettitte/Clements, finding another starting pitcher, or improving the Astros' offense?
  17. Willy was second place as Rookie of the Year, and yea, had that 30-game hitting streak going on. He had a little slump at the end, but his hitting skills are unquestionable. When on base (which I think he'll do well next year), he could almost be a guaranteed run with Berkman and Lee at 3 and 4. I also don't like the fact that trading Tavaras for Garland may result in us not being able to sign Pettitte, Clements, or Huff next year. It's almost like we're giving up four stars instead of one.
  18. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...es/4384288.html As I'm reading Chronicle online, I see this new article on King Booker, one of quite a few successful wrestlers to come from Houston. I knew who he was, but never knew there was a wrestling school owned by him Downtown (Booker T's Wrestling Academy). Apparantly, he's developing new local blood to become big-name stars in the wrestling world, giving H-Town more celeb cred as well. It was news to me when I first heard it. Thought it was interesting
  19. If radio were The Matrix, Clear Channel would be Agent Smith....
  20. Good point. Think Rose Bowl would host the last game again?
  21. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4385643.html Why on earth would the Astros claim to want to improve their offense and improve their team, then want to trade a future star like Willy Taveras? He's the fastest player on their team. It's like they're going 2 steps forward, 3 steps back...
