Texas A&M Innovation Plaza: Main St. At Holcombe Blvd.
brian0123 replied to Urbannizer's topic in Going Up!
This place would be next to a light rail stop and large bus terminal... so that should help.- 546 replies

Texas A&M Innovation Plaza: Main St. At Holcombe Blvd.

The TMC is a juggernaut and I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. This is an area with a high concentration of wealth, tons of young employees, and millions of patient and family visits. Hence the upcoming developments down along S Main within the loop. Throw in Hermann Park and if they redo the dome... South Houston/TMC might be the new center of Houston one day.- 546 replies

I live in the area but really only frequent this forum due to time. I agree with you regarding Nextdoor though... nothing but useless gossip. -
The Post Oak Hotel At Uptown Houston At 1600 West Loop S.
brian0123 replied to King Owl's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
This place sure looks like it could be a casino... except it just so happens to have a ballroom/convention floor instead (probably with a lot of extra wiring for some reason).- 590 replies

America’s Best Value Inn At 9604 South Main St.
brian0123 replied to brian0123's topic in Historic Houston
I need to correct my earlier statement, I went by at lunch and it appears they are actually rehabbing the building. There are a ton of crews there cleaning out the inside.- 20 replies

You guys aren't going to believe it, but my wife just texted me saying they're currently tearing down the strip mall around the corner from this behind the Starbucks.- 20 replies

America’s Best Value Inn At 9604 South Main St.
brian0123 replied to brian0123's topic in Historic Houston
They did the same thing before tearing down the old apartments at Kirby and S Main (where the new ones are going up north of this). Old stuff is pulled out of all the rooms, they salvage what they can (like mirrors/electronics/fixtures), hazmat the gross stuff (mattresses), clean it out then tear down the walls.- 20 replies

He was walking around the crowd just saying hi and signing autographs. Very cool guy and seemed very happy to meet everyone. I'm glad to hear we weren't crazy for giving up on the line. 3.5 hours with two young kids would have been impossible. We did score some free food and 50th memorabilia cups though.

Anyone in the South Braeswood area get a notice yet? I haven't received anything in the mail and it shows pending online.

@Okie, I've heard from a super neighborhood member that the bridges will be rebuilt as a second initiative and that funding was just secured. They were very excited because we should be getting much nicer trails and bridges that don't have columns underneath to allow faster flow of water and no debris to get caught. Bike trails will also go under the bridges to keep us bikers from having to get in traffic. Apparently it has been funded to Stella Link. Should we get another thread going for it? I'd love to find more official information about it. As you said, project brays website is unfortunately out of date.

That picture looks like a prison you'd see in a bad sci-fi movie with the guard/elite building in front with rows of prison blocks behind it.

I'm not sure why a development like this in this area would be considered a risk. It's near the med center... so no worries about oil prices, there is nothing like this around, and you have a huge swath of young med professionals with money to spend that want housing nearby. Plus, the connection to the bike trail would be a big selling point.

New windows?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into it. I have a couple jambs that aren't ideal but will still research this. -
New windows?
brian0123 replied to brian0123's topic in Houston Construction, Home Repair, and Improvement
Thanks for the recommendation. Any reason why fiberglass over vinyl? I'm still trying to decide what to go with. I was looking at Home Depot just to see what they had and these vinyl windows had good reviews and specs to match: http://www.homedepot.com/p/American-Craftsman-50-Series-Single-Hung-Fin-Vinyl-Window-50-SH-FIN/203157278 -
Any good companies you'd like to recommend for window replacement? My old windows aren't cutting it anymore and am looking to get efficient (and sound reducing) new windows.

So, while driving to San Antonio I saw a billboard that stumped me... Texas has a legal casino? It's called Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino: http://luckyeagletexas.com/ How is this possible? What's the history behind the place and why haven't other tribes in Texas done the same? Am I the last person in Texas to know about this place? I'm honestly completely confused why we don't have more casinos in the state if this place exists.

Are you referring to a home equity loan or something else less risky I'm not thinking of?

Drove by yesterday and they are tearing out all units at 9604 S Main (the old America's Best Value Inn) here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Americas+Best+Value+Inn/@29.679122,-95.426589,3a,75y,305.44h,90t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sBytyiD3zHAWaelOmoKiDYA!2e0!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0xfe8313a5a4dffe69!6m1!1e1 According to HCAD, ownership changed 1/30 of this year to "9604 S Main LTD" w/ an address that matches In-Town Homes. Anyone know what's going on?

I can't believe I started this thread five years ago. Do I get a prize or something? I no longer live in the neighborhood, but has anything happened with the white house on elgin I posted about in post #1?

Majestic Metro is an old movie theater Downtown (big like a warehouse) that has the vibe you're going for. http://majesticmetro.com/weddings.htm

The frustrating thing about this is that these two kids probably walked right past an HPD car running a speed trap somewhere on Fannin or W Gray. I know the city needs money, but I'm getting tired of seeing police sitting in their cars with radar guns instead of actively patrolling.
