    I thought they were going to have annual New Years Eve celebrations on Main Street... did that ever happen? Discovery Green would also be a good place to have something.

    I thought you can turn right on red in all states... I guess that could be wrong. I grew up in Pennsylvania and you can turn right on red there, also. NOTE... you can also turn left on red if you are turning from one "one way" street to another "one way" street.

    The way I look at it... a red light means "stop"... no matter what. If you can turn on red... you first stop (since the light is red)... make sure it's OK to turn... and then turn. Either way a red light means you have to stop.

    With all do respect.... you girlfriend did in fact run a red light. If you don't stop, it's running a red light. I flunked my first drivers test when I was 16 by "rolling right on red"... the instructor told me I failed b/c I "ran a red light". I am all for these cameras. You stop at red lights... that's what "red" means... "STOP".

    There's an large apartment complex on the northwest side of the Waugh / Memorial "intersection"... forget the name... redish in color... sneak into the parking garage behind somebody (there's a gate... follow a resident in)... go to the top of the parking garage... you get amazing views of Downtown and the surrounding area, especially at dusk.

    ... and it looks like that may be what they were doing when the breaks acted up / failed.

    Great news nobody was killed... it could have been a lot worse. They are saying it could have been a problem with the breaking system... that's seems odd since they were in the process of taking off which is when I would think you don't use the breaks (unless you are aborting a take off)... but then again what do I know... I am not a pilot.

    It's so weird... I just drove by this development like 2 days ago and said to myself... "well there is one development not affected by the economy"... spoke too soon.

    I've only been on Amtrak once when I lived in PA... went from where I was going to college to Philadelphia... never been on it here in Houston.

    Of course Amtrak runs through Houston... the station (as crappy as it is) is near Downtown.     Most of HP is not even open yet, of course it kind of sucks now... more and more will open in the coming months. Add to that the state of the economy and of course they are going to have a hard time filling in what's empty... we are lucky it even got built. Once the economy picks up which it always does eventually things will improve... just something we have to deal with.

    Snowing pretty heavy at my office in southeast Houston... cars are covered... it's also accumulating on the grass.
