I finally got to see the roof closing yesterday. We were just looking at the stadium and remembering the choo choo train. It really closes pretty rapidly.

Whoever the new owner will be I hope they keep the rotating light going.
I thought it was just under 1 million sqft in area. Anyone know the price yet? Thanks for posting.
Something like $450mil.

Been that way for awhile now. Don't expect to see much change until Bagby construction is past them (or at least the east lane).
I guess I hadn't notice before because I was distracted by the street construction.

I drove by this building the other day after a Spec's run. It is completely gutted and the roof is gone.

There was this hispanic dude ON the train this morning with his baseball cap held out, asking people for money. I said oh no, you can't be doing that up in here.

Actually Francis and Fannin street. It's the Frank Bering house, that I posted the picture of .
Here's an advertisement I found.
Yep, I noticed my previous post was 1 block off on my ride home yesterday. I think I read somewhere where Trinity Episcopal had bought that house. I think I got the church name right.

You are not supposed to give them money. Also, I believe there is an ordinance that prohibits them from pursuing (asking more than once). If this happens, report it.
I noticed a sign on a poll outside Frank's Pizza window yesterday. I wish I'd have taken a picture. It's pretty blunt and to the point about no begging, etc.

That's my bank and my train station. After the bank closes and IM opens, they better not be messing with me on that train platform. I'll be calling 713-222-Tips (or whatever) so fast it'll make your head spin.

I ate next door at lunch, but picked up a menu afterward. Damn! Prices be high.

Correction; there is ONE old, large mansion on Milam and McGowen. It's used as a CPA office and is in decent shape.
That's midtown. There's also one at Holman & Fannin, by that Episcopal church.

Pepper Jacks opened in this spot today.

Your post is wonderfully written, Schwinn. But I have to tell you, I am disturbed by the girl in the immediate left foreground of your school picture. She is channeling some serious bad vibe.
Funny! I had to take a double take and then quickly had to turn away. I hope she's not a commenter on this topic.

A bank teller told me that they would remain there for about a year.

Not downtown, but close. The Spur took out many old homes as well. The 1902 Westmoreland Addition extended eastward, nearly to Main St. The Waldo Mansion was moved from downtown and reconstructed in Westmoreland. I guess the only original home left downtown is the Kirby Mansion.

I work a block or so away and had never heard of it.
As far as where they should relocate. I think Montrose. We are lacking in dining options.

I don't guess I knew, or remembered, that this 100+ year old building was Houston's first skyscraper office building. Good to see it being saved (and revealed). I went in there one time to get a watch battery from some jeweler. It was kind of funky and reminded me of the old Cody's/Skybar building on Montrose.

I live two blocks South of West Gray and Taft and I love it. The gentrification is full speed ahead.
Are you on the Montrose or 4th Ward side?

This is the same company that has a tower planned at Weslayan and W. Alabama, so maybe it will be something tall.

Interesting. Isn't this the same group that just bought the strip center at Westheimer and Montrose? (PM Realty Group)

Does anybody else remember the fire in one of the towers, way back?
From Wiki:
At 4:15 AM on October 13, 2001,[5] a fire occurred in a fifth floor unit in the west tower.[6] Houston Fire Department firefighter Captain Jay Jahnke died while fighting the fire. Over 175 firefighters extinguished the fire.[5]

There is a proposed plan to create a new HSPVA campus downtown at 1300 Capitol.

It looked like they had the sidewalk blocked off with yellow tape yesterday. I was going to look again this morning, but the train was so dang packed I couldn't see out.
-
They were painting orange marks on this block this morning. This evening, it's got posts up and they are putting up fencing.

Yes, that picture is of "The Mix".
Will they be able to sell beer across the street from that Catholic Charities place. I can't remember the church/school proximity rules to booze servers/sellers.
