St. Anne's (the church across Westheimer from Adobe) uses the lot for overflow parking for nearly all of its surfaces. It wouldn't be a proper Catholic church if it had adequate parking.
Off Topic - How did Adobe get away with serving alcohol right across the street from a church/school. I'm comparing to the permitting issues over on Dunlavy (HEB/Fiesta Property).

No, but I remember Paula Zahn on CH2.

Palace Lanes is on Bellaire. Stadium Bowl was where the South Main Target is now. I think there's still one out 290.

I really don't like the design of this proposed building.

Maybe they're buying the Citgo and strip center as well. How close can you build residential next to a gas station?

I never realized there was underground parking right there. I wonder what type of parking facility this place will have.

The slab and some framing have been done for the day care center.

The plants are all dug out of the median where the new station is going in downtown. It looks like the early stages of construction. Does anyone know which design has been selected?

I think Alamo Drafthouse will be the biggest thing to happen to Midtown since Post moved in. When are they expected to open doors? I never saw a date.

Wasn't Chelsea's the name of the bar that used to be in the basement of the old Plaza Hotel?

Jax - GTFO. You've got to be kidding me.

In Upper Kirby yesterday, I noticed the old strip center/warehouse between W. Alabama and Sul Ross that said "Balloon & Novelty Wholesalers" on the front (between Ruggles Green and Mission Burrito) is being torn down this week. A portion of this lot has been fenced off for years. I haven't heard any rumors about this property.
I remember something a long time ago about apartments. That's about all I can recall.

Ellen is making announcements at the train platforms. Like - "Hey Houston, it's Ellen, the next train arrives in 1 minute." then "Have to told someone you love them today?"

They open in the Alabama on Friday.

Crews created faux movie posters to play on the building's past. They include "Gentlemen Prefer Blonde Ales," "Reservoir Hot Dogs" and "Pulpy Fiction." There's a genuine poster of Jack Benny's "Man About Town," the first movie the theater had in 1939.

Made my gf giggle when I told her,"arr! Your booty shivers my timbers!"

We've not missed it this year, Matey. It's today.

I was sent a cool shot of it flying near the AIG Tower. Pretty cool with the flag atop the building. I have no idea how to post it though.
-
We just saw it. It flew from south to north on the west side of town. Then, flew west to east on the north side of town. Then flew out to Kingwood/Humble and circled back on the east side to the San Jac Monument and then on down to Ellington. Pretty cool.

Yep, there are barricades separating the sidewalk from the street. Also, the street is all marked up with orange paint.
-
It seems like I saw barricades on the sidewalk, this morning, near Ziggy's. I'll pay better attention this evening.

Obedience Smith was one of Houston's earliest citizens, and her daughter Piety married Thomas Hadley. Piety Smith Hadley and her husband were among the founders and charter members of First Baptist Church in Houston. Between them, the Smiths and the Hadleys owned large parcels of land that are now downtown Houston. One particular parcel is now occupied by Houston City Hall, Jones Hall, Bayou Place and Tranquility Park. You'll notice that Smith Street runs right through the middle of that spot.
I haven't been able to find out what Thomas Hadley did for a living, but if he was like most of the successful men of those early days, he was probably a businessman of some sort.
You have probably already noticed that most of the streets in the immediate area of downtown are named for Houston's prominent citizens of those times.
I thought Smith St. was named after a Bob Smith. What is the name of that fountain on Smith, near the Hyatt?

That bastard came through here 4 hears ago today. Curse you, Ike. I really miss my Bolivar beach house.

Great. I'm now an uglyass, abandoned hotel. Do I have to live with that for another 995 posts?

There will be a service interruption on the Red Line this weekend in order to install tracks for the new line. It will continue to run between Fannin South and DT Transit center. Saturday is supposed to be a ride free day, for Museum Day.
Steam Locomotive

What's with the steam locomotive pulling yellow passenger cars? It's running on the track, under UH-D (the one that runs near Washington Ave. The train's horn is awesomely loud and eerily haunting.
