The Budweiser Clydesdales just rolled into town (for the opening game, I guess). They've got some fancy trailers.

It was truly an amazing site to watch. The largest fire I've ever seen was a grain silo that was located on the northeast corner of Montrose and Allen Pkwy, diagonally across from the Magnolia Cemetery. The flames from that fire were probably as high as the AIG tower is tall.

They've been painting the trim on this building.
Maybe a black baby grand piano store - that's all I saw. I'll try to get a better look today.
-
This is going to look so much than it did in stage 2 of its life.
-
The vacant retail/restaurant space is full of pianos today. My best guess is that they are being stored there while the Alley Theater is being renovated.

Cardet's was the first time I ever tasted Cuban food. Needless to say, it was very good.

Did you take that picture with a drone?

They're pouring concrete at the Capitol/Main corner today, presumably for the new garage entrance.
I think you mean Milam, not Main. One lane of traffic is closed on the Travis side.

Phil's is now known as 59 Diner.

Seller's Bros. Stella Link @ S. Braeswood.

What's going in at the old Barcadia? There were construction workers in there this morning.

They put new cooling units on the roof a few months ago.

I did not know they had burned. They are still standing though, no?
There's still a Success Rise silo on the west end.
-
Aren't the big grain silos still on I-10 west, behind the community college? Those and the ones at Hempstead Hwy and Long Point are the only two I can think of that are left standing.
The silos on Studemont were the entire stretch of land from Walgreens to where that street is (don't know the name) where you enter the complex of condos off of Studemont. Used to be a big paper company right there too. In its place is that tall building next to Memorial / Allen Pkwy on Studemont.
That silo burned in the 80's - biggest fire I've ever seen in my life.
-
Pretty sure it's a storm sewer/drainage project.
Right. Isn't that why they're replacing the bridge on San Felipe?
-
Wtf, why did they ban lit up corporate logos on the towers?
Because they're tacky and would take away from the architectural signifcance of many buildings. Ah, remember the rotating Gulf sign atop their building? That one was cool.
Hotels can still have signage downtown.

Do they own the entire block? Could fit another apartment or some retail there if they sold the undeveloped part.
The undeveloped land was to be a Fire Museum, but it fell through. An apt. development was announced for that land recently.

Remember the days when Nabisco was on Almeda and Maxwell House roasted coffee on the east end? Both were great sniffing smells.

Stewart Cadillac is in Midtown and they just remodeled their building.

This is a prime spot for some 40+ high rise or maybe 102
There are renderings on here somewhere. Try searching Skanska.

I know this is off topic but since there is a discussion about facades being altered, I'd like to mention a building that is old and has a very brutal exterior that was added in the early sixties. I have seen pictures and vaguely remember it from my childhood the old Sears building in Midtown. I wish they would remove the siding and allow that building to live in its old glory.
If anyone can post an image of it from its heyday I think everyone would agree that it needs back its original facade and a new life,
Other than a Sears which doesn't seem to be doing that well. It could be repurposed for many different activities.
There are threads and pictures on here somewhere.

The Graffiti art at the top seems to be increasing by the day.

Thanks largetexas! def deserves it's own thread, but wanted to confirm first.
There is one - http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/28768-mid-main-—-mixed-use-development-for-midtown-3600-main/#entry434625

The 3600 block already has businesses. Are they going away? The 3400 & 3500 blocks are both parking lots.
