Plus, their trains go to the airport and are grade separated.

I was about to say the same basic thing.
I'd take the bling, even though the gold is only worth $650, the silver, $335 and bronze $5. Plus you have to pay taxes on your "Prize". That's BS!
The last time solid gold medals were handed out was Stockholm in 1912.

That's my bank and my train station. After the bank closes and IM opens, they better not be messing with me on that train platform. I'll be calling 713-222-Tips (or whatever) so fast it'll make your head spin.

I ate next door at lunch, but picked up a menu afterward. Damn! Prices be high.

As a tourist, I've only ever been menaced by violent criminal activity once, in pre-Ike Galveston late at night in a bad part of town by someone that lacked a firm grasp of reality and that kept crying out about all the devils that are around. But that's par for the course in Galveston. I get that, how it would happen.
The London Dog Poop Mafia...I don't get that. It must be an English thing.
God Bless America.
Nope, it was Rio dog poop.
Was the Galveston thing that boy that thought he was a vampire?

Correction; there is ONE old, large mansion on Milam and McGowen. It's used as a CPA office and is in decent shape.
That's midtown. There's also one at Holman & Fannin, by that Episcopal church.

I saw a poster at a rail station yesterday that said MetroRail had reached 90 million boardings.

Pepper Jacks opened in this spot today.

Hey, that kid has clothes and shoes. As slums go, you gotta pick your battles.
I have friends that went to Rio. A kid threw dog poop on one of their shoes. After he refused to pay the kid to clean it off, hoodlums appeared out of nowhere with pipes. They had to run for their lives.

Anyone know what kind of buildings they had to tear down to build all these venues?
Not sure, but I have heard that the Olympic Village will be repurposed as housing for the very ethnically diverse location it sits.

Being a 'real' hipster myself, what really makes Houston cool is the fact that it has never been cool. Now stop saying it's cool or I shall have to go find somewhere else uncool to live.
I had to stop eating Nutella after 30 years specifically for this reason, because everyone can get it at Randalls now, and I don't get disgusted looks from people when I pull out my jar of nutella and start slathering chocolate paste on my bread.
Thankfully Hagelslag is still on the menu, cause a lot of people still think chocolate sprinkles are for ice cream, and haven't realized the regenerative powers of it when placed on white bread.
Maybe it's time to switch to vegemite. That is unlikely going to catch on and it is not readily available.

Your post is wonderfully written, Schwinn. But I have to tell you, I am disturbed by the girl in the immediate left foreground of your school picture. She is channeling some serious bad vibe.
Funny! I had to take a double take and then quickly had to turn away. I hope she's not a commenter on this topic.

I toured the station on Lovett one time with my friend who played the "Brian the Butler" character. I especially remember the room where "Traffic in Bondage" was broadcast. The props were quite interesting (to say the least).

A bank teller told me that they would remain there for about a year.

Not downtown, but close. The Spur took out many old homes as well. The 1902 Westmoreland Addition extended eastward, nearly to Main St. The Waldo Mansion was moved from downtown and reconstructed in Westmoreland. I guess the only original home left downtown is the Kirby Mansion.

I work a block or so away and had never heard of it.
As far as where they should relocate. I think Montrose. We are lacking in dining options.

If I remember correctly, he stopped to boozing around the time or shortly after it was discovered that Ed Brandon (weather man) was a cokehead.
-
I thought she was pretty funny and got a lot of positives about Houston in.

So... ppl don't watch the news anymore, eh?
Oh, you mean over dramatized fluff?
Did you hear? Tom got to see Suri yesterday. Bleh!
-
No thanks.
The double-volume U-Verse weather alert is plenty effective in that it awakens the dog, which then awakens the wife, which, well you get the point. And for what? It's as if everyone at the NWS graduated from the UH double-Doppler, cone of uncertainty, dirty-side, on-shore flow, hunker-down school of hyping the weather.
Quadruple-Volume! That thing scares the crap out of me when it goes off.
No thanks to the alert notifications. I know where to go to get information when I need it.

I don't guess I knew, or remembered, that this 100+ year old building was Houston's first skyscraper office building. Good to see it being saved (and revealed). I went in there one time to get a watch battery from some jeweler. It was kind of funky and reminded me of the old Cody's/Skybar building on Montrose.

I live two blocks South of West Gray and Taft and I love it. The gentrification is full speed ahead.
Are you on the Montrose or 4th Ward side?

I remember when they went from Caprice to Crown Vic. The cops complained because the Ford rear end was much lighter, allowing for spinnage and fish-tailing.
-
I remember seeing a white and blue cruiser for the first time. The cop said that they couldn't get them in Columbia blue anymore.
The Caprice is RWD, whereas the Interceptor appears to be AWD (standard). Chevy offering a V-6 & V-8 options, whereas Ford offers several V-6 options.
Remember those Chrysler LaBarons? Those things would haul-ass, sounding pretty cool when they got down on it.

You are not supposed to give them money. Also, I believe there is an ordinance that prohibits them from pursuing (asking more than once). If this happens, report it.
I noticed a sign on a poll outside Frank's Pizza window yesterday. I wish I'd have taken a picture. It's pretty blunt and to the point about no begging, etc.
