  1. The cathedral that opened in LA 5 or so yrs ago is a 21st century design. St. Mary's in San Francisco is also modern. They definitely work well with both cities' style of architecture as does the new Sacred Heart. The Catholic Church doesn't have one style of architecture. Just look at the older vs. the newer churches here.
  2. supposedly the churches in the diocese received 3 tickets.
  3. LOL I'm a peice of work? that hole you're digging is getting deeper.
  4. we met a couple of attendees at the darkhorse yesterday afternoon. they said they were from vegas. i asked what do you think of houston so far? they started talking about the $60 cab rides from downtown to reliant. cab driver expletive deleted. then they mentioned that someone else told them about the train which they used the last time they went down. they were very polite. they asked the patrons whether they could turned the volume of the game down so that they could play the jukebox. we thanked them and bought em a couple of micheladas.
  5. i turned on my lights, turned down the a/c and turned up the muzak. but it's ok cause i purchased my carbon credits.
  6. for METRO's LRT, it comes down to money. METRO LRT bosses need to be committed to making improvements in the system to decrease travel times without affecting those who already use the same corridor(s). this next phase of the LRT will be critical. it is going through neighborhoods and will affect local area drivers on a daily basis. causing delays at traffic lights, inability to cross certain intersections, closing roads, etc will not be a good thing when public support is what you're striving for.
  7. that type of thing happens everywhere but we don't realize until we are a victim.
  8. pay cash and everyone else with magically disappear.
  9. ensure that the supply pipe dimensions meet the specifications. i saw one of these and the water pressure was low.
  10. Latest high-rise proposal denied Ashby project developers must supply more data on traffic impact City officials have rejected the latest permit applications for the controversial Ashby high-rise, saying the developers must provide more information about traffic impact and take other steps before the project can be approved. In returning the plans for the 23-story building to developers Matthew Morgan and Kevin Kirton of Buckhead Investment Partners Inc., city engineer Mark L. Loethen said they must supply more data about anticipated traffic volumes, including figures about traffic generated by similar projects in other parts of Houston. Loethen also expressed concern that a planned driveway into the project at 1717 Bissonnet might cause problems, including encroachment into the westbound lanes of Bissonnet by large trucks backing into the driveway. full article

  13. A Tale of Two Houses House #1 A 20 room mansion ( not including 8 bathrooms ) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool ( and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in a Northern or Midwestern 'snow belt' area. It's in the South. House #2 Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every 'green' feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet ( 4 bedrooms ) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and it consumes one-quarter electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape. ~~~~~ HOUSE #1 is outside of Nashville , Tennessee ; it is the abode of the 'environmentalist' Al Gore. HOUSE # 2 is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas ; it is the residence of the President of the United States , George W. Bush. An 'inconvenient truth'.
  14. Asked why the issue is surfacing now, Salazar said Metro initially hoped to obtain permission from the railroad for a street-level crossing. In 2003, when Metro changed its plans from light rail to Bus Rapid Transit, thinking that was necessary to qualify for federal funding, the issue was moot because the buses would cross the tracks with other street traffic. looks like UP was never asked.
  15. METRO doesn't even know. CDeb usually has the latest from the engineering side.
  16. when you name your kid after a popular SNL character or a bottle of liquor, you WILL GET COMMENTS.
  17. yes you are exaggerating. I'm not the one who has a problem walking on a street with an empty lot or a parking lot on it. That isn't balance to me. sounds like something a therapist could address and it would cost the taxpayers nothing. oh wait you probably want socialized med too since you're from canada
  18. doing the test isn't a problem. it is determining how much actual damage is done and how much it will cost to fix it. what has your insurance company told you about obtaining insurance when you describe "noticeable water leaks inside the home?"
