  1. Can't wait until they open up the two lanes from 610 south to 69 south. I avoided 610 from time to time but now I avoid it at all costs.
  2. I am not allowed to say too much because there are watchful eyes on this forum but Black Page Brewing has had a number of issues, some out of their control. They can't even get right-of-way to their building at the moment and there is a long back and forth between the city, the nearby neighbors, and a few other "actors". I actually feel sort of bad for Black Page Brewing because the White Oak Music Hall group promised them a lot of stuff and have so far underdelivered. I know I didn't really say much but that's about as much as I can say. Perhaps more info will hit the Chron.
  3. Unsure what you mean. The middle portion will remain open to allow what I think is a small creek in between the two hills? That is indeed a question. Either way, all the renderings show it as being open. When it comes to animals, glad they get this land bridge too. I see my armadillo buddy there late at night when I go running. Unsure if it's the same one but I always see him right next to the track near Memorial and am always worried he's going to go into the street. Joggers surprisingly walk right past him sometimes and don't even notice he is there. I still remember laughing so hard when a group of young women didn't notice him there and they all literally jumped in the air screaming right when he was next to their feet. 🤣
  4. You're correct. A record of decision has been made. But Houston19514 is also correct in that modifications, even large ones, can still be made. It is still an on-going process but the record of decision allows them to start moving ahead. Now, it doesn't mean the city and the state will see eye-to-eye on every matter, but even after the ROD, it allows wiggle room to adjust things where needed.
  5. Renamed this to Houston Farmers Market since that's the official name now. Surprised there haven't been new pics of this place in a year. It's looks like it's close to be finished with giant Houston Farmers Market lettering on the top.
  6. Man, what's going on with this? Drive by it but see zero signs of life.
  7. There is a carwash sign at the northwest corner of Summer St and Studemont St.
  8. Multi-million dollar question we are all asking.
  9. Whelp, my coworker just faced the wrath of this street last week. He was driving his Kia Stinger in the right lane and a car came to close to him and he created "canyons" in his rim as he scrapped the curbs... I mean just chunks of metal taken out.. never seen that before. Had to do a major repair on his wheels and cost him a pretty penny. Honestly surprised they were repairable and weren't just replaced. That's seriously why I never drive in the right lanes.
  10. ^ Exactly, that argument is complete BS. The best example I saw was DC. People lived out in the suburbs, just like Houston, and they would park at very large parking garages out near where they lived. From there, they would hop on the rail and go into downtown or any other the other major city centers around DC. It was fantastic and it's exactly what Houston needs. You get the comfort of working on your laptop or phone while passing the congestion. My actual fear is that this is just lip service by the city. To make it seem like they care about the needs of the less fortunate. I literally went to TXDOT meetings for 3 years and I didn't see a single thing from any of the superneighborhoods implemented by TXDOT. I feel like they seriously aren't working with the city or any of the planning meetings. It's like TXDOT is saying, "Hey! We are giving you a big park near downtown. Take it and run!" and they expect the city to congratulate them for that. In the end, we'll have to see where both TXDOT and the city go with this.
  11. It's good enough. It doesn't need to be the riverwalk. It's a great development. I'm totally excited for this. Ok.. Now that we can get past those same points. I agree with others about the future phases. My hope is that Midway sees how popular this development is and starts actually placing restaurants on the water. Hell, they could even add an amphitheater carved out going towards the water for movie night and other events similar to what Pearl in San Antonio does. Pearl has a central square kinda sorta like what East River is doing here but Pearl is much better at integrating with the nearby river, albeit it is a different sort of river (different flow, control, water level, etc.) I'll finish my point with this and then I'll just move on because the arguments becoming circular. Yes, you guys are right. This could look like any other segment of Buffalo Bayou. It can sync up perfectly with a sidewalk. But it can be so much more.
  12. Totally agreed. With all the things I've said, I'm still really excited for this project.
  13. Do we really think that's enough? So a single sidewalk. I see an orange brick sidewalk coming down, ok. I see some tables and chairs on one of the buildings on the right. Maybe I am just envisioning way too much of a riverwalk area, since I don't think this portion of Buffalo Bayou floods that much. Yes, we can all agree this is better than townhomes. But I seriously think there's a missed opportunity here where there should be a very central focus to the water and I'm just not seeing that.
  14. I know I kind of stated it earlier in this thread but my main issue that remains with this development is that it currently looks like any other mixed-use development I've seen in other cities. Sure, that sounds great but it's name is East River and it's placing literally zero emphasis on the water. It's placing all of it on two streets that run down the center of it. It needs to shift the focus more towards Buffalo Bayou. All I see is a single sidewalk going down the water... where's the patios, where's the docks, where's the steps that take you all the way down to the water... where's anything indicating this is a RIVER development. It should, at the very least, have some of these characteristics: Edit: I can already hear some people saying that at least East River is providing some natural landscaping, some trees and what not along the river. Again, that's great. I'm not saying the river needs to be lined with wood for patios and concrete. Here's what I'm saying. Here, look at these 2 pictures for East River ^ In this photo above, nothing is pointing towards the water. It's just a sidewalk. All the restaurant and bar activity is on the street in this next photo: Tell me I'm not the only one seeing a huge missed opportunity here for East RIVER.

  16. My family is claiming they have sent these photos and info about my great grandfather. Does anyone know the actual name of the group that is preserving this train? Anyway, here is my great grandfather in the first shot. In this photo, he is traveling into the Lufkin yard. In the second photo, my great grandmother is explaining the special horn sound he would make when he finally arrived back into the Englewood Yard from Lufkin. Edit: Horn sound was "one long and a short, [an] short, [an] a long" to let her know he was home.
  17. Another article today covering the demo: https://communityimpact.com/houston/lake-houston-humble-kingwood/development/2021/02/25/parking-garage-at-george-bush-intercontinental-airport-to-be-demolished-to-make-way-for-new-mickey-leland-international-terminal/
  18. I am not usually certain about office projects but this one is a sure bet. Already has a major tenant.
  19. If they did go with that design, people staying at Embassy Suites would at least have some view of the park. With the stair-step design, I would pretty much demo the Embassy Suites at that point since the entire north and east sides are looking into office now. lol
  20. Yup, so was I. But it looks like 1 of the images in that URL that was posted would be a different design than the rest we have seen. The "stair step" skyscraper design is gone in this rendering.
  21. Not sure why this one wasn't posted. This makes Phase 2 very distinct from the one we've already seen around Discovery Green.
  22. Reached out to family that has all the material (who would actually know) because I am not sure. Why, what are you thinking? We could submit those photos to them?
  23. Oh cool, we are looking at Phase 2 here. The 2nd photo is clearly the western corner at the intersection of Lamar and La Branch.
