    Korean Airlines

Guess it's official... http://www.chron.com/business/article/Korean-Air-launches-nonstop-service-between-Seoul-5206758.php?cmpid=hpts Korean Air announced Wednesday it is launching a nonstop service between Houston and Seoul. The four-day-a-week flight will launch in May between Bush Intercontinental and Incheon International Airports. The flights will depart every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. This is the second destination for the airline in Texas. "We're very bullish on the Americas," says John Jackson, the airline's vice president of marketing for North and South America, in a statement. "Houston is the fifth largest metro area in the U.S. with a very strong travel market to Asia. We've decided to earn our fair share of the market with a highly competitive product and service that's hard to beat." Mayor Annise Parker said that the route will be an exceptional business opportunity for the Korean Air team. "Houston's dynamic economy and diverse population continue to strengthen its position on the world stage," said Houston Mayor Annise Parker, in a statement. "This new nonstop flight to Seoul is an excellent example of Houston's enhanced status as a gateway city and key player in the global marketplace."
  2. Who would occupy this tower if it's not for Anadarko? I suppose there is still massive pent up class A demand in this market for that building.
  3. Looks pretty sharp to me but clearly an older rendering. The top rendering showing the Allison Tower is absent the Hackett Tower and there's not even a gray box to fill the void so I wonder just how old this is.
  4. I drove past downtown yesterday from 45 north and this building is going to make quite the impression on the north face skyline. #excited
  5. Don't look now but it appears as though a more significant snow/ice event could be headed this way on Tuesday. As a meteorologist, I don't put much faith into any one model but there seems to be a growing consensus that the same set up we had with this past ice storm will be present on Tuesday except colder temps and more moisture. We'll see. Don't get excited---yet.
  6. Air China expands to daily service out of IAH. Looks like this route is proving to be quite popular... http://www.chron.com/business/article/Air-China-expands-Houston-Beijing-nonstop-to-5143118.php?cmpid=hpts
  7. Well the good news is he said nothing is for certain. It just appears that they are leaning hard one direction currently (campus on the north side) but nothing is inked by any means.
  8. Well say what you want and criticize away. im just passing along the info from a very, very reliable source who is close to the negotiations. Next time, I'll keep it to myself.
  9. I have some new information on the Chevron deal. I have a source who's family is part of the limited finance partnership for the 58-story Energy Tower project in Midland. They are exceedingly wealthy and pretty clandestine on the details but here's what I have. His dad is a very well known businessman, philanthropist and investor. Take it for what it's worth: Chevron's downtown tower is in jeopardy and might be scrapped all together. Chevron has recently shopped Tower 1 and 2 (former Enron) to Texas Pacific. By recently, he means very recently (wasn't specific). Exxon, according to my source, has set the example and both Shell and Chevron have taken notice. According to 'him', Exxon has shown that it is cheaper to build in the burbs, with the ability to spread out and own adjacent parcels of land for later expansion than it is to build in the CBD. His words, not mine. This makes sense that Chevron would be looking for cheaper capital investment projects since they're Australian project is running way over budget. Btw, he also said the HQ of Exxon will relocate to the new campus in the next few years. He said this campus was built and designed strictly for that purpose. He also mentioned that a new high-rise of some sort will be erected near the campus as an "architectural marvel" when the HQ is relocated. Chevron appears to be far more interested in the Camp Strake parcel than what we are being lead on to believe. He couldn't give me much information due to the sensitivity of the discussions taking place. When asked on a scale of 1 to 10 how serious they are of abandoning both downtown buildings and scrapping the third, my source said "8." He had no details on a Shell relocation to Montgomery County. The info. might seem vague but it was like pulling teeth to get the aforementioned out of him. If you have any specific questions, perhaps you can send them over and I can ask him but there's no guarantee I can get you an answer. This is about as close to the horses mouth as you can get. Will try and dig for more info. later on. I just don't really know what probing questions to ask.
  10. Seems silly. You think United or the Houston Airport System is going to allow CXO to compromise service at the big airport? I think not. Next thing you know, Smeisk will punish IAH and take away our entire domestic network---especially after the tantrum he threw over Hobby. Not to mention that there is Hooks airport that can accomodate large jets. But if you're going to go to Hooks, why not just go to IAH?
  11. Boonies? You speak like you're from a small little town somewhere. You people need to wake up and realize that The Woodlands is a major economic hub now in a county pushing over 500,000 people. I'm not sure ''Boonies'' is the word I would have chosen for it. The campus (Exxon) is sitting on the Harris/Montgomery county line. If it were in Willis or Huntsville, then I could agree.
  12. Please, Chase AND Wells sticks out far past 610. On a clear day when on top of The Woodlands flyover from 45 to Woodlands Pkwy, you can see both those towers sticking up. Plus, most days you can easily see Chase, Wells and even Continental sticking up from the FM 2920 on 45 heading south.
  13. The orientation of the street grid downtown (angled in regards to true north) makes any highrise difficult to stand out---that is unless it's 102 stories. But even then, it'll be a tall stick coming out of a cluster of other buildings. Unless anything is built on the other east side of 59, you're not going to expand the skyline or get much of anything to be prominent from any view of the skyline unless coming in from the east on I-10.
  14. Actually a building that tall wouldn't look gaudy at all being that there are other taller buildings on the east end, including Chase. I think it might actually look pretty slick over there.
  15. Wow. My parents live in The Woodlands and home values have SKYROCKETED thanks to Exxon. Add in Chevron and holy moly, they'll be sitting on a gold mine.
  16. Developers in Jacksonville, FL have proposed building the state's tallest building. Dubbed the ''SeaGlass Tower'', it'll stand at 1,000 feet (dwarfing any other building in the city) and include shops, restaurants and an aquarium built near the base. This poor, dead, forgotten city needs something. Can't wait to move back to Houston. If Jacksonville can build a supertall, no reason Houston can't..
  17. ??? Seems pretty strange considering the fanfare and media circus that surrounded the announcement. The PR guy who was interviewed by all major outlets in Houston said that Chevron was very excited to break ground on this structure. On a side note, seems strange to me still that they put out such a cheap ass rendering. Looks like something done with water colors.
  18. Sorta, but not really. Antennas don't mean squat in my opinion.
  19. Wowzers! I hope it's true. A supertall would look great in that location!!
  20. Wow. Would be pretty amazing if this actually had legs. A tower that is 1,400 feet would dwarf anything near by. In fact, it would be taller than both the old and new World Trade Center building(s)
  21. I thought it was already determined to be 832 feet. Was that only a speculative height?
