  1. So the office tower is 29-stories plus 8 stories of parking to make for a 37-story tower?
  2. Wow, IAH is going to be a gigantic airport beyond 2035 with the addition of 2 runways as well as a significantly larger terminals A, B, C, D and possibly E. That said, will Houston ever be a two-hub city like LAX or ORD? I would love to see Delta move in but the proximity to ATL, I doubt that would ever happen.
  3. On top of the flyover at The Woodlands Pkwy and I-45, you can clearly see the tops of Chase and Wells. I'm usually driving so I've never been able to stare at it. I've only caught glimpses. It can also clearly be seen from the Anadarko buildings. I have not witnessed this myself but I know people who work in teh buildings who say it is very visible.

And Chicago O'Hare's footprint is not? They've got runways pointed in every direction, crossing each other. It's a mess.
  5. So here is the "big" news: Channel 2 will begin construction of a brand new studio on the same lot as the current building. Construction should begin in June. It's a 3-story, all digital media center and will be built in the back parking lot of the current studios. The current location will remain in use until the building in the back parking lot is completed. Once it is completed, the old building will be demolished. As far as employees go, they will park at an off-site location and be shuttled to work for 2 years while construction is underway. I have not seen the renderings but should be pretty nice when completed.
  6. From what I understand, the 2 with the star will be staying the same. I confirmed this morning that "Local" is indeed no longer being used.
  7. It will still be local news. They're just changing the branding. They do it every couple of years to keep things fresh.
  8. This isn't the only big change coming to KPRC. Announcement on what that is should come later this year once plans are approved.
  9. So I booked a trip with my best friend last night to Sydney, AU and Auckland, NZ for July. We're overly excited about every aspect of the trip (including the 14 hour flight it'll take to get there as we've never been on a plane that long or on a plane that big (777-300). That said, has anybody been to Sydney or Auckland? Aside from saying ''omg, we're in Sydney!" we couldn't find much to do. We'll be in Sydney 5 nights and in Auckland 3 nights. Here is what we've come up with so far: Sydney: Opera house, harbor bridge climb, dinner cruise in the harbor. Is there anything else worth seeing? We were hoping to get a view of the 'outback' and wild kangaroos but going to the 'outback' is no easy or quick task. Going from Sydney to the 'outback' would be equivilent of going from Houston to Denver or more. There just simply isn't enough time. So any thoughts on what would be worth seeing? Ayres Rock is a considerable distance from where we are staying so that's out. As far as Auckland goes, we face the same problem. Aside from being a place that everybody wants to visit, we're having problems filling our schedule. Any info. would be helpful! One last thing, the longest flight i've ever been on is Phoenix to Honolulu which was a mere 6 hours. We'll be on a flight more than twice that long. Any suggestions on how to survive the flight? I find it hard to sit still for a 4 hour flight much less 14 or 15 hours. The only part of the flight i'm excited about is flying on the 777-300. The biggest plane I've ever been on to date is the DC-10. Thanks in advance!
  10. News Flash: I fly ANYBODY over United. I've gotten very familiar with Terminal A and Hartsfield in Atlanta. Thanks Delta! And passenger numbers doesn't equal happy people. Many don't have a choice which carrier they fly---especially for business. Word on the street is Smisek is getting ready to step down as CEO of United. Will be interesting to see which bozo they pick to replace him.
  11. That's difficult to say. Each market and each position (evenings, mornings, weekends) each have their own pay scale. The bigger the city, the bigger the pay. The smaller the city, the lower the pay---in general. Speaking for myself, I started in market 89 out of 210. That's still considered small market. I was making.........$9/hr. That was back in 2007. In the city I'm in now, it's significanly higher and plus I'm salary but still, I'm not hauling truck loads of money like all my friends think I do.
  12. People leaving the tv industry isn't a new thing. There is a lot more that goes into tv than just being pretty on tv. Being a broadcast meteorologist as well (in a different city), I can tell you that I have also been looking to get out of the industry. The hours are long. I start my morning every day at 330a. You often have to work weekends or holidays. You can't take vacation during sweeps months (February, May, July, November) and the pay is low---and getting lower as time moves on. Yes, there are some people who do well financially in the industry, even in the Houston market but those days are quickly fading. TV just isn't as fun or exciting as it used to be. I tell everybody who wants to get into tv that they need to seriously re-think their decision.
  13. This is supposively going to be a 58-story building. That'll take every bit of 2 years to complete...if not longer. So why not start construction when costs are going down in the anticipation that prices will stabalize in the 80 to 100 dollars a barrel relm by then?
  14. Pardon my ignance, but is dirt moving on the site or has construction began? I haven't really been keeping up.
  15. The Boeing 747 is still the sexiest aircraft of all time IMO...
  16. That's true. There are no orders past 2018 and some airlines, Japan Skymark Airways, have cancelled their orders. The Group CEO of Air France-KLM will be cancelling orders as well. It's pretty humiliating for Airbus (or 'Scarebus' as my flight attendant friend calls them) to have to discontinue a marquis airplane so early on in it's production while the Boeing 747 saw longevity and is still in production 40 years after the first took to the skies. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-12-10/airbus-at-crossroads-as-a380-jumbo-faces-spend-or-fade-conundrum.html

EVA Air makes it official: http://www.chron.com/business/article/Bush-Intercontinental-to-launch-new-route-between-5957959.php
  18. So was Buenos Aires the announcement or are we still waiting on the US announcement later on today? The reason I ask is because Friday is almost over for New Zealand.
  19. Found this: Looks like it'll be an Auckland-Chicago announcement. Drats! http://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/news/63986409/air-nz-expected-to-open-new-us-route "They've kept this one pretty tightly under wraps," McKearney said. "If I was a betting man I would put my money on Chicago." There has long been talk of Air New Zealand opening up a South American route but that was unlikely to be announced on Friday, he said. "I think South America will definitely come, but I don't think that will be the pending route that they're talking about."
  20. How do you know this? I read something a few weeks back that it had come down to IAH or ORD for Air New Zealand...
  21. You think it would be possible for IAH to become a dual hub like O'Hare? I think it would be awesome to have Delta has a hub at IAH....maybe as their latin hub or something.
  22. It would look WAY out of place in midtown. I don't know that I'd want this along Post Oak either. It has a very downtown/corporate look to it. I just wonder if this building will be the capstone to this building boom---much like Heritage Plaza was in 1989. The last signature tower if you will before everything folds up due to collapsing oil prices.
