  1. Some time over the past few weeks, the one in Rosenberg became the Rose-Rich Grill. So much for that adventure in franchising! Some of the other posters had it... pretty unremarkable.
  2. Since it is tied to the development at the Intermodal Center, here's a piece I missed on Nissan's involvement there. http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/2009/08/31/story5.html?q=Nissan%20Distribution%20Center
  3. Cherry was awarded the contract to demolish the building. http://www.khou.com/topstories/stories/khou090923_jj_houston-savoy-hotel-demolition.1ab787f66.html
  4. Here's a blog post from Haynes Whaley detailing the installation of the last part of the spire trio atop what they call the "tiara". The post should be checked for a few things, one of which is the figure given for the height. I'm pretty sure it should read 465'-6" instead of 565', since it's 476' to the top of St Luke's twin spires and it certainly isn't taller than that. http://hwablog.com/blog/2009/07/the-methodist-hospital-outpatient-care-center-completes-its-crown/

  6. That image from the aerial map is the 14-story Homewood Suites, which was finished in 2006. Not bad when you consider both went up around the same time (Courtyard was finished in 2007).
  7. Thanks for the new photos Jax, I haven't tried to shoot from that side in several months, so I've missed out on getting an extended look on the Main Street facade.
  8. Here's a portion of an article from about a month ago. I'm somewhat curious how such a system would serve the area, as well as the park and ride they intend to build for buses at the County Fairgrounds.
  9. There will be a Dr. Oz segment on the 11A & 4P newscasts, while the show itself will be the lead-in to the news at 4. No newscasts are being cancelled at this point.
  10. The maybe two times I've seen that happen this decade on 13, it was static.
  11. To get the Jump on KPRC & KHOU's 4:30 AM newscasts.
  12. If I'm not mistaken, this is one of a few spec buildings that was merely planned over the past two years. The rendering has been on ZC's page for about a year or so, and it even had an entry on CBRE or CoStar during the same time few specifics. It has since vanished from either database, or the developer's site.
  13. Here are a few photos from yesterday afternoon. Can already see the cranes from a distance, can't wait until the building starts to make an impact in the same way. Bertner St. Expansion -Southbound Northbound
  14. Here are some photos from this afternoon, finishing up the 27th floor and already starting on part of the 28th. Garage Porte-cochere
  15. I heard there was a book or at least a few articles that chronicled the design competition. If either is true, does anyone know what they are or if they could be found? I know the structure is profiled in compilation books about several of the architects, but that's it. I've been thinking of compiling a bunch of the period articles together so people could have a better understanding of what exactly was going on during the time. Certainly one of the more interesting planning phases that I've seen, and just the fact that even when BOtSW fell through, the later owners of the land (Senterra) maintained that a highrise was still planned for the lot. Even if it was a lot of blown smoke, its still kinda hard to think it wound up as surface parking in that context.
  16. That would be Randy Schell. For the others, the announcer on the first clip is Val Davis, who was one of KTRK's voices into the early 90's. His voice is also heard in the second clip teasing the Million Dollar Movie. For that second clip (the CC tag and news intro); I t was definitely Bill Young. The voice announcing the Marathon coverage is that of Ed O'Brien, who is now the primary VO talent on KTRK.
  17. I believe the television masts near Missouri City started appearing around 1964 (KPRC's was a 1500-foot "candelabra"-style structure constructed between February and August of that year). It was part of a joint partnership formed by KPRC & KHOU called the Blue Ridge Tower Corporation to build three towers on the Blue Ridge antenna farm. The terms included one transmitter for each station and a third plot which was leased to KHTV (KIAH). There's a pretty good section on the tower selection/construction phase in a hard to find book called The Fault Does Not Lie With Your Set, which deals with the first 40 years of KPRC's history. The book mentioned the desire to find a location near DeWalt, but it's essentially the same area.
  18. Here are a couple of photos of the upper floors from this week, shot from about three blocks to the northwest.
  19. Hey guys, haven't been around for a while, but here are a few photos from earlier this week. They're finishing off the 20th floor at the moment.
  20. Because they have yet to really even start, I'm guessing. Only Wednesday, around midday, did they begin to move the construction trailer onto the site. Looked like half of a double-wide, IIRC. So, I'd say they're still in the process of getting equipment to the lot.
  21. Linbeck An announcement is listed in an AIA Houston brief from last month, skim down to the 2nd entry for May 4th. http://www.aiahouston.org/membersinnews.cfm
  22. If I had no other reason to renew my out of state DL in a couple of years, I think I would've just found one. Unfortunate color scheme, ugly font on top, stumpy skyline... perfect storm of awfulness.
